LOVING this so far being a newbie!

A few questions though....

- Some of the early time trials seem impossible! Do I just need to keep trying, or should I continue through the tour and come back to them? i.e. will I unlock faster cars to beat the trials?

- I presumed I could design my own car to use in MP, but this doesn't seem the case?

Thanks

It depends on the class - if it's hot hatch, then I think the Golf was the quickest car, at least until the Megane was released. IIRC the Golf was the car given out for joining a club, so join a club if you don't have it.

For the later classes, there are definitely some better cars unlocked later. I'm on my second play through (lost my game save), and am finding it much easier this time around. Part of that will be due to the fact I've been playing it for over a year, but I do think having some more cars to choose from is having an impact.

Best tip I can give is to learn the tracks. It's much easier when you know what's coming.

You can amend your livery in the 'Garage'. As of the latest update there are 16 custom slots you can store at any one time. As you progress in the game, you'll open up more designs. Pretty sure you can pick one when you're in MP.

I designed a car but then had no option to choose the car I designed in MP? It was weird.

So with the early time trials, do I keep trying, or should I wait until later when things are unlocked? Although with some trials, only one vehicle is currently available.

That's probably because some cars, the Ferrari's in particular, aren't allowed to have anything other than the factory paint job on them. Some cars like that, the Atom and the Nissan's for instance, if you press square you're allowed to cycle through a few different factory base colours.

Repetition is the key, once you've gone through the tour your muscle memory for the cars and tracks will be so much better. That's all there is to it really, learning over time what works and what doesn't, following the ghosts and doing lots of events in tour and the challenge mode. There's also the sprint mode which is time trials of small sections of a track.

I've gone back through the tour a couple of times, usually when they drop in a new fastest car for certain events or like now with the increase of accolade levels from 5 to 10, and it gets easier and easier every time, because of the time invested.

Thank you! So the time trials early on... they can be done? I don't need to wait to unlock a faster car to make them more manageable?

Yes, they can all be done.

If you're struggling you could always try the 'silver' stars that they just added, all of which have easier targets than their gold equivalent. It should make it easier to progress through the tour and gain experience at any rate. (when you're in the Tour screen, press R2 (I think) to change the difficulty).

I'm also on my second play through as I also lost a game save.

Something I found when not knowing what car to choose - On the screen before you choose your car it will show you the leaderboard. Click on that and it will show you all your friends time and also the global leaderboard. See what cars they're using to get the best time. Some cars may not be available to you right now but this should help when choosing which car is right for which track.

Playing through this again, and can't believe how much I'm still enjoying it. Tour and 2 packs re-done so far.

I'm still blown away by the speed - the McLaren P1 GTR is an absolute beast. Immensely fast, KERS, and is controllable too.

Venom Hot Lap - done on 4th attempt. Took me about 3 hours the first time!

And the new accolade bonuses are hilarious - 4 popped on one event and I got over 1.5m fame!

Awesome game.

I never got that done the first time

Did it in a few goes this time. Seems we're getting a tad better.

I suspect we are, but I also think it's a LOT more forgiving this time around. Way less corner penalties when I'm sure I would've had them before.

Just done some of the new AMG Tour. The events with clean sector requirements were a bit of a pain to say the least.

Excellent.

Now let's get these out of the way:

- yes it will cost money because people actually like to get paid for work they do (shocker)

- no it won't be covered by the season pass because season pass content ended Summer 2015

- no they shouldn't just give us it for free because of the launch issues - these were over a year ago and Evolution have gone above and beyond in supporting this game post release.

just answering the usual gripes before they're mentioned - did I miss anything ?

City tracks were the only thing I felt the game was missing so I'm happy to see these being implemented. I wonder if Evolution will turn Driveclub into a platform which keeps getting updated throughout the PS4's lifetime rather than releasing a sequel. They did say that they were improving the graphics. So if it does go on for another few years, it won't look dated.

Any word on when the season pass for bikes will be released?

There's people online claiming one of the buildings looks like BBC Broadcasting House..... If correct, we could be racing around central London.

That would be cool if you could. I really liked the London track in PGR4. My favourite city track ever was Edinburgh in MSR on the Dreamcast

I don't think Edinburgh was in MSR was it? It was definitely in PGR2 though...

One of those teaser pics looks suspiciously like a Scottish town/city - perhaps you'll be able to relive it!

I may have been that on the Xbox right enough. I just remember it being on an old console and driving around with the tunes playing instead of the soundtrack

That star in the AMG time trial was a pain in the arse to get! (2 clean sectors & fastest lap) but I finally managed it and got all the stars

Edit: it would've been that as the Xbox allowed you to play your MP3s

Are there tiers for time trials. I went on the first track on the India circuit and if i go the Audi R8 i can see friends ghosts but not if i go the Zonda. It put me top of my friends list when i use the Zonda then near bottom when using the Audi, are there not separate scoreboards.
Im pretty crap at this game so when it says im 9 seconds faster than Lisa you know the scores are not right. Just not sure how it all works.

Just a noob on the free version.

Just seen i was using a super.

Thinking about it I doubt the cities are actual real cities given the locations are pretty fictionalised already. Shame as I too was a fan of he Edinburgh track in PGR2. I also know it a lot better in real life now and that's always a bit of a thrill when you recognise real locations etc

You have to click further on the leaderboard to get all the individual car leaderboards, etc. If everyone on your list has only attempted a particular track in a mini and then you turn up in the Koenigsegg or whatever than yeah it's just going to put you #1 on the first overall screen.

They are fictional tracks based in real locations. So a London or Edinburgh track could feature all the famous landmarks, but wouldn't follow the real road layout.

Purists may baulk at it not being "real" but if that means a better gameplay experience because you're not limited by where the roads are I'm all for it.
