Ah nuts. I was liked the look of this but did not enjoy trials really.
Bugger
I tried the single player last night. It's similar to Trials in that they are quick 40 second tracks (plus longer multi-lap ones), and it's all about getting the best time. There's also multiplayer (including local), and a track builder.

But it's your standard driving game view (behind the car) with automated dropping to bonnet cam at certain points. (Didn't seem to be a way to control the camera).

It was ok, but didn't really grab me. I'm certainly not going to get it day 1. Might pick it up if I see it going cheap at some point.

The Driveclub app is now available to download on iOS & android. Just had a look at it and all it is is a list of challenge you've been invited to. Really not worth the wait.

Wow. Finally ....... I kinda feel they missed the mark with this one. By a long way.

Agreed. Could/Should have been an all-encompassing stats tracker.

WTF ?

Okay, Im on my iPad, but the only app to download is an iPhone one. Its taken a year and a half to release this, and they can't even optimise it for tablets ? Okay thats fine, I'll use the iPhone version, no biggie.

Then it doesnt do anything. Theres 5 tabs:
Challenges (ones Im currently engaged in),
Club Challenges (All I can do is accept them)
Community Solo Challenges (Again, all I can do is accept them)
Community Club Challenges (Accept, or don't)
Evolution Challenges (As above)

Thats it. Theres literally nothing else to do with this. Just accept challenges, and then of course I have to go to my PS4 to play them. If Im doing that then I might as well just accept them on my PS4.

Im certain they promised a lot more with this app like watching my clubmates drive, live. As Claymore said, Id like to go through my stats and my clubs stats, like you can do on the PS4.

So a thumbs down from me, but to be fair, the game was a mess at release too and they turned that around so maybe with a few updates, this will have more functionality and a purpose.

Here's an article from 2014 about what should have been in the app

A marathon drifting session coming up then! I'm glad they've decided to go the whole hog and start afresh with the drift leaderboards. I'm still catching up on the last update, more work to be done.

Not to mention the 25 new Elite challenges. I don't spend anywhere near as much time on DC now, but these updates always keep me coming back for more.

They're crafty though, you can only go as far as level 49 for now. Levels 50-60 need all the stars earned in the new DLC which isn't out until the 22nd.

Some of these new challenges should sort people out, I thought I was never going to do the Renault Alpine one!

I wondered when that restriction would kick in. Still haven't bought any of the new packs yet, this might be the end of the road for me!

DC Bikes standalone currently £7.99 on PSN, or £6.49 for the expansion if you've already got DC.

Evolution studios has been shut down. I guess that means no more Driveclub updates. No VR version.

Damn. :'(

Edit - Driveclub will continue apparently, but will be in new hands. Shame about losing another UK studio though.

That's really disappointing, still think Driveclub is the best racing game I've played.

Depressing that studios spewing out horrible NFS games continue unabated.

Thanks very much Evolution studios, you cocked it up at the beginning but sorted it out and gave me the best and most prolonged experience on my PS4 so far.

That's a huge shame. Never really got on with Driveclub but I loved the motorstorm series.

Probably.

In the short term, it appears that SIE are going to continue supporting Driveclub. That probably means finishing work on the VR version. Just a couple of days ago a new studio called Secret Sorcery started teasing a new exclusive VR project for Sony. They are made up ex-Evolution employees. I'd like to wager they will be finishing the project and maybe releasing some future DLC. It's unlikely that we'll see continuing monthly updates though. Unless the VR version does big things, I expect the franchise to quietly die.

That is a huge shame. I was really hoping the game would have been financially successful after the way they turned it around.

A terrible shame that. Once they ironed out the kinks it was/is a fantastic game and had some of the best support in terms of content, developer communication etc. I've not had the longevity that I've had out of Driveclub in a looong time!

I hope they at least get to finish optimising the VR version.

Considering how they managed to turn DC around, and how well supported it was with DLC, this really is a shame.

Gutted for the staff. Hopefully they do ok.

Dunno what is going on with SCE - Evolution were the darlings with Motorstorm when the PS3 was released and now they are being closed down.

Theres obviously more to it than that but hopefully they'll all find other jobs.

That's a shame about Sony closing Evolution. I enjoyed DriveClub and its been the best supported game I have ever played on a console. I bought the season pass a few months ago and have been meaning to get back on the game.

For me though the saddest part of this is that we will probably not see a new Motorstorm now. Pacific Rift was one of my stand out games on PS3.

Evolution have been clinging on since the disastrous sales of Motorstorm Apocalypse. Not entirely their fault but, by their own admission, they were fortunate to survive

I guess Driveclub was their last chance at redemption. And with the driving genre as a whole on the wane they just weren't going to have a money spinner any time soon. I was thinking only yesterday morning that being a small team churning out updates for an aging game wasn't going to be propped up for long.

I am actually sad to see them go. Driveclub was great and I've interacted with members of Evo on a number of occasions. Genuinely nice guys. I wish them well.

Motorstorm Pacific Rift is one of may all time favourite games. Outstanding in every sense. The rush I use to get over the 2 laps in online multiplayer still cant be matched in any game I play
