Eurogamer gave it a 6/10 but it was reviewed by the co-editor of Outside Xbox so maybe its probably not the best review to regard

Our own digi spy gave it 4/5

A mixed bag really?

The last 7/10 game that I played was Destiny, which I am totally obsessed with at the moment. This seems to be 0.5 better, so bring it on!
It will all be in the handling here, if it strikes the right balance between arcade and sim then I am all in.

Some reviewers seem to have marked it down for 'Only having European cars', 'Not been as big as Forza Horizon/The crew' & for 'Not been open world'.

Take this from IGN for example:
Quote:
“Fast, beautiful, and accessible, but a more modest, conventional arcade racer than its sprawling, open-world peers.”

When talking about the actual gameplay they tend to all say the driving mechanics & the racing is all a lot of fun with a good variety of locations/circuits which all look graphically very good.

4 out of 5 pretty much falls in line with the other reviews

There we go, Destiny all over again just as predicted.

I guess it's difficult to properly appreciate a socially-based game when the community just isn't present.

Reviewing a game in an office, making plus and minus notes as you go, just isn't the same experience as playing alongside your mates, with competition and camaraderie fuelling the fun.

Not put off in the slightest.

Just turned my PS4 on and it's doenloaded around 3GB for Driveclub but cannot download the car packs. I would've thought the whole game would've downloaded. No money has came off my account yet, I guess that'll come off on Friday?

Edit: just clicked on game and says payment to be taken 8/10/2014-11/19/2014

Played this on the demo pod in GAME yesterday and really enjoyed it. It doesn't really do anything special (Obviously not tried the club experience yet) but seems a solid driving game. Looks nice, play well, seems worth a purchase if you enjoy driving games.

Apparently it just shows the first 3GB which is how much is needed to start playing. The rest downloads silently in the background. If you go into Storage or click on the game and choose options > settings it should show you the rest coming down.

Yeah, it says 16GB downloaded there

I'm not put off.

7 to 8 out of 10 isn't a bad score at all. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Will play the plus version but my money is going to project cars, the sense of speed and handling look more fun going by vids i have seen. Haven't played a racer i really lkied since the 1st grid game. The dirt games were good and one of the f1 games a few years ago but it always relied on car setup as to who would do best.

Anyone take any notice of reviews anymore?

COD gets 10/10 every year.

I don't think i need to say anymore.

They're becoming less and less relevant all the time. Why do we need to know whether an individual thinks we should buy a game or not when we've got the real-life opinions of millions of users at our fingertips?

I haven't bought a gaming magazine for about 4 years now.

The occasional review (such as Edge giving Bayonetta 2 a 10) will make me sit up and take notice, but I care much more about what guys on here think about games rather than some jaded journalist in an office. You just need to be able to cut through the occasional agenda to get to the truth.

I think we can safely ignore the Gamespot review. The writer (Kevin VanOrd) game Driveclub a lower score than Lococycle.

Seriously, what?

Nope, too many of them seem to be in somebodies pocket or have some agenda that its hard to get a really opinion anyway.

With the growth of YouTube I find watching a video for a couple of minutes is normally all I need to know whether I will find a game fun or not. It works out 95% of the time which is more than I can say for reviews. If you read a glowing review it often just sets you up for disappointment.

Plus I dislike most of the scoring systems, any system with a scale larger than 5 seems pointless.

BIB : this is my thoughts exactly. I am much more likely to buy something on someone's opinion here than a journalist.

I bought Valient Hearts purely based on opinions here. I didn't look at a review score but people here said it was excellent (and I loved Ubiarts predecessor). I also thought it looked sh1t from the E3 footage. And I really enjoyed it.

But I still read reviews for the craic, and I love the b1tching that goes on in the comments section (on sites like IGN).

I probably take more notice of real players too. Im more interested in longevity too as cant just keep buying games willy nilly. I also use the live from playstation feature to watch gamers.
To be honest I'm finding the menus and things a little dull. Feel like they need a pounding soundtrack or something to bring them to life. However its going to come down to the driving and ability to enter into a 12 player race that makes or breaks it for me. This is why I have to wait and try before I buy as project cars is also on the scene shortly and only have room for one racer.
