Although the viewing figures are low, it proves that those have voted prefer to listen to ballads and old songs mainly.

So it some ways the ballad factor was correct and this seems what the voting public prefer.

Be interesting to see what type of show direction next year.

It probably went from one extreme to the other the last two years.

The ballad voters are completely more powerful as the viewing figures fall though

Or, alternatively, it proves that people vote for the best singer, even if she/he is given rubbish songs to sing.

Both arguments work for me. Doesn't matter what you sing, if you do it well, you're gonna make hay. Sam did just that.

Or maybe it shows that viewers are fed up of being force fed US inspired R 'n' B or urban shite?

Indeed.

The XF skews young and rates well with social media but it always seems to be its older market than actually votes

"The voting stats prove the public know what they are comfortable with". No it proves the typical X Factor viewer know what they are comfortable with. UK has a population of 63 million of which, on average, only 8 million watch the X Factor and probably a large proportion of them don't even vote.

I'm sure the people who tend to like R&B and Indie music don't tend to watch the X Factor so using "the public" is a bit of a sweeping statement.

I have always thought the power of the 'teeny vote' is vastly overrated here- When One Direction didn't win, this should have been crystal clear!
Look at this year- Sam C and Kingsland Road never did well in the voting though Kingsland were trending last night and today, and Sam and his Callafans were never off twitter or facebook. I think they just don't have the credit for voting

The stats seem to show that very few people vote because the Flash Vote loser only gets reduced to HALF, which means roughly the same number of votes were cast during the Flash Vote window as the rest of the day.

It shows that the ones that are the most likeable and have amazing talent go the furtherest. Im really happy that the two most talented acts throughout the competition were the most popular and were the final 2

Perhaps there are very few new songs that really platform a strong vocal.

All it proves is that its more about personality than talent. As if we didn't know that from the dismal record this and UK pop idol have when it comes to finding stars that last.
You get people every year on here and in the media talking about how nice this or that one is just to see them flop in no time flat, so clearly the people who vote for them aren't buying their music.
