Just thought all the Victor, Stu and Mich fans would be interesed in this on ebay. Remember its for charity so please don't put on silly bids like some people did with Emmas suitcase (even though that was very funny)

Vic clearly doesn't have any fans.

I thought the same and why is Stuarts a large and Vics a medium- surely it should be the other way round.

Vic has 3 bids and is at £21.

looks like capitalism has had the last damning word about his popularity

Some of the bidding (particularly on Michelle's and Stuart's shirts) is already looking pretty frivolous: lots of new, low-feedback eBayers making remarkably high bids — never a good sign.

Curiously, the seller's feedback rating isn't that great and their My eBay link doesn't work. There's also nothing on the auction pages I've looked at that says what happens to the money from any sales. Perhaps if the My eBay link starts to work we'll find out more.

However, charity or no charity, I'm sure I wouldn't pay several hundred pounds for an HM's signature on a T-shirt. As my granny used to say, some people must have more money than sense!

Hardly. I just wouldn't pay more than about 50p (if that) for any piece of BB memorabilia.

As I said, the bidding on these auctions seems to be getting silly, and when that happens, the winning bidder seldom pays up.

It'll be interesting to see just how ridiculous the bidding becomes, though.

It's a bidding war love # these things happen.. Also thoses two were the stars of the series so it only stands to reason they would fetch such a hefty layout.

I notice that the seller's My eBay link is now working again.

Their eBay User ID History is quite interesting:

User ID Effective Date End Date
red.nose.day 28-Jan-05 Present

sport.relief 25-Feb-04 28-Jan-05

comic.relief 05-Feb-03 25-Feb-04

sportrelief 01-Jul-02 05-Feb-03

(Sorry I can't work out how to get the above to line up properly in three columns. Spaces don't seem to do it and tabs don't work.)

Presumably the seller is some sort of professional fund-raising company? I wonder what proportion of the money raised by such sales actually ends up with a charity?

ah, but before you were questioning the sellers authenticity.. now you question how much is actually going to charity? it's obviously something to do with 'Comic Relief' judging by the auction page ~ cynical person

1. Where/how did I question the seller's authenticity?

2. If the seller is a professional fund-raising company, they will take their percentage of funds raised.

3. I wouldn't normally buy on eBay from someone with only 98.2% feedback. There are many sellers on eBay who are either dishonest or incompetent; caveat emptor. I'm watching two clearly fraudulent auctions on eBay at the moment (nothing whatsoever to do with the seller we're discussing in this thread). I've alerted eBay to both of these auctions but, as so often happens, eBay has done nothing. I have both bought and sold quite a lot on eBay and have had no bad experiences. However, if you don't approach eBay with all your critical faculties working (your cynicism on red alert, if you like), you'll get scammed.

NB: I am not in any way implying that the seller red.nose.day is crooked. However, judging by some of their negative feedback, they don't seem to be particularly competent.

4. Don't be so naive as to imagine that just because something is a charity then it must be beyond criticism. Many professional fund-raisers make very comfortable livings; many "celebrities" who participate may well do so from good motives but many also seek to promote themselves by gaining favourable publicity.

These t shirts have been signed by quite a few stars, not only BB HMs. This is the official auction site for Comic Relief. Who cares how much they go for it is all for a good cause. Good luck to whoever is bidding.

Thanks, sian. I'd actually had a look at the Comic Relief website at http://www.comicrelief.org.uk and couldn't find anything there on these auctions, so your link clarifies things.

The price on michelle's shirt is absolutely through the roof. It is currently at £410. Even's Davina's is not selling that much.

Wow.

All good for comic relief though.

Only if the bidders mean to pay...

About a year ago, wasn't there an eBay auction for a photograph of Ian Hislop which ended with a winning bid of around £10,000,000? Do we believe that amount was ever actually paid? And what price did Emma's BB suitcase rise to? Wasn't that a charity auction too?

If the price of the Michelle-signed T-shirt is £410 with 6 days of the auction still to go, what will its ending price be? And if they do mean to pay, what about the sanity of those who bid such ridiculous figures?
