Strange failed recording on HDR-2000
Robmonster
16-12-2013
Afternoon all,

I had a strange occurrence on the HDR-2000 yesterday and I wonder if anyone can explain this, or has seen something similar.

I looked at the Media list of recorded programs, and noticed that one program had no thumbnail image. There was a message saying that the recording had failed due to signal problems ( This was Tron, from BBC HD) .

However, I was still allowed to view the program, and it seems to have recorded ok. I was able to skim through the film in Fast Forward and it went all the way to the end. After exiting playback there was a thumbnail image shown and now the recording seems to look just like any other successful recording....

We see this message from time to time on an HDR-FOX T2; usually there is no more than a brief glitch in playback and the recording is perfectly usable. I think the message could be improved to differentiate between the cases where the recording is perfectly usable and the cases where the recording is zero length or seriously truncated.

I had that once on my HDR-Fox T2. And like you it played perfectly from beginning to end.

As I recall when the recording was being made I was watching another channel on the telly at the same time and there was a very short glitch on the picture. Some sort of random interference artefact. Can't say for certain if that was related to the Humax saying the recording had failed (even though it clearly hadn't!) but was the only thing I recalled at the time to possibly explain the message.

Yes, that would be good. I almost just deleted it without checking. Are HD channels more prone to this due to the extra data needed? ( I hadn't actually meant to record the HD version anyway)

I don't know; most of our recording is SD and we do see similar messages maybe once a fortnight (and we have line of sight to the local transmitter).

The error appears to be caused by the recording being unable to start when the AR trigger says it should. Generally caused by a small overrun on a previous programme being recorded If you happen to be watching you get a warning message on screen usually disappearing a few moments later.

I've been using padding 3/5, not AR.

No that produces a different error message.
