my cat smudge has had loads of fur come off her mouth to the point its red sore and had been bleeding.

took her to the vets and for the internal we got prednicare tabs one a day for 7 days and for the external we got a vetasept chlorhex rub..to put on twice a day

the thing she dosent like is the synulox tabs thats shes also been given .i suprised her with the little white one(prednicare)but as soon as i popped in the pink one(synulox),she went beserk, ive never ever seen her like it..hissing fighting me..shes normally so placid and to hear her like that broke nmy heart.

i know ive gotta do it so i need another way.shes fed on dry food, thats all she ever has done,so is their anything cats love to eat i can give her that i can mix the synulox in and she will take this tablet without her knowing it.im afriad that if i persist in this course of action with forcing pills down her she could snap and start biting me or the kids

You could try some smelly fish but in all honesty most cats will pick it out. I suspect she was ready for the second pill, do maybe space them out a bit? Wrap her in a towel and do it quick, no fading around. It's a pain but it'll be over as quick as possible and she'll be ok.

did you wrap her up in a towel?

edit: tried to find a video but no one does it properly.

swaddle the cat tightly, make sure her front legs are down [in a sitting position] with just her head out, open her mouth, bung the pill in and hold her mouth closed whilst hugging and soothing her till she swallows it.

it`s not as cruel as it sounds sometimes it`s the only way, especially if you have an angry cat..

edit again: i see i`m rather slow

It's worth a try, but like I said it maybe that you have to towel her - even if she's being a pain, it's better than not dosing her.

Cats are awful to tablet or doing anything to, I've got scratches all over my arms from some dinky, innocent looking kittens who needed eye drops. They turned savage!

I guess I'm lucky. My boy has no problem taking pills. Tip his head back, open his jaw, sling the pill to the back of his tongue, hold his mouth shut for a second or two until he swallows then lots of love and praise followed by his feed. No towels, no pill poppers or gadgets. Over and done with in seconds. I'd despair if he wasn't like that. He's had pills a lot (Synulox as it happens) since he was born.

I second the crush-it-in-Tuna option. Mine simply can't resist!

I'm realy suprised she doesn't like them. Cats usualy do. Don't let her see you putting treats in a piece of ham they know. Give her one piece we out he tablet then another with one. Crushing it up you can do but it could taste even bitter thatn in crushed up.

I can't offer any better advice than already given, but I just wanted to say good luck!

That is a good idea, guernseysnail. Depending upon the size of the tablets, they can be crushed to powder between two teaspoons or larger spoons. The powder can then be mixed with, for example, high quality fish cat food.

Thanks..It was a tip from the vet, when I say crush I mean grind down to a fine powder I used the two spoons method then I bought a pestle and mortar which does an even better job, my Eric and Ruby fall for it every time!
