Just wondered if anyone would be interested, another year,if we had a thread for Strictly Dance Talk?
I don't have a favourite and am not interested in that side of things.I just enjoy the dancing. I am a dancer and it is a huge part of my life, and there's nothing I enjoy more, when not dancing, is talking dance.
This would be a thread for discussing the dance only, absolutely no mention of the celebrities or Pro's.No personal comments aimed at the dancers or posters. A thread where technical points are discussed and perhaps questions answered by some of the more informed posters.
I was initially thrilled when I stumbled across this forum as I thought there would be more debates / discussions re the dancing only.

I'd be really interested in a thread like that - although I'd just be reading/learning/possibly asking for clarification as I know very little about dance. The resource threads are fascinating.

I'd love to read a thread like that, and have a place I can ask questions about technique etc!

I like the reasoning for this thread but if you are to just discuss dance in the strictly forum without even mentioning or using the contestants or pros as examples, how is that going to work. Surely it will be an off topic thread and moved to general discussion instead?

Just to go off topic (I am sure the others will forgive me) How was Craig in panto? Did your daughter enjoy it? Did you?

One of the snags this year (and previously) I have found is that any analysis of a dance has been taken by the fans of the contestant as running down the contestant. They get upset by any critique and no matter how many times one says it isn't about the celeb only the dance the thread seems to become about the celeb. For this reason I wouldn't be bothered if the proposed dance thread lived in the attic.

We used to have a thread like that a couple of years ago and I don't remember ever being told off for being off topic. We largely used the show as a jumping off point for discussions on dance. The thread died a death in the end because there were only about three of us left posting. It seems like there are more people now who'd want to play in such a thread. I'll post a link to the old one if I can find it (probably not soon as there are only so many sneaky forum peaks I can make while at work... ).

Me too.

But would it work? Wouldn't the celeb. obsessives gatecrash it?

And is trying to forbid certain types of post even allowed on here?

You can try Jennifer and I wish you luck with it. We used to have a Dance Teachers Thread here a few years ago, something which was brought over from the BBC Message Boards when they closed. It lasted properly about six months before the teachers got sick of being accused of "favouritism", "being mean to X Y or Z", picking on "X Y or Z", missing out mistakes that "A B and C" made etc ad nauseum.

I like the reasoning for this thread but if you are to just discuss dance in the strictly forum without even mentioning or using the contestants or pros as examples, how is that going to work. Surely it will be an off topic thread and moved to general discussion instead?
That's also quite likely to happen if the current show isn't referred to.

The dance teachers stopped posting in it because of the abuse (two of them are my RL friends).

This is the thread I was thinking of: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...828&highlight=

I do remember the Dance Teachers thread but mostly from the BBC boards because it was the one thread I always read.

Thanks Frangle. I have squirrelled that away in favourites to read in the sparkle free months to come.

Good idea to have such a thread - there are already a handful of mainly dance threads.

The problem with one dance thread is that may get too long.

Anthro's idea of a dance section in the attic is good and I have seconded it to the moderators via the alert button.

I have seconded on the back of this suggestion via an alert the last time you so posted.

I'll do it again

So I propose (indeed second) to the Moderators of the SCD Forum than a sub-forum be created

Sub-Forums : Strictly Come Dancing

Dance talk

Fans of dancing rather than celebrities can post comments on dances, dancing and dance music seen on SCD and elsewhere
I have checked the word count for compatibility with what's there now. It covers the SCD angle.

May I suggest that we all hit the alert button on this post to support this proposal.

EDIT

Just alerted the mods to this post. If several others including interested lurkers do the same they might set up a sub-forum for dance.

OMG I really hope that she comes to the show next year and that will be even more likely if Kevin wins.

She will be perfect for this show. They will be like the " HOUGH" of Strictly

We really loved it, yes - as did a friend and her daughter who were also there. Craig was great value and there were lots of Strictly references (namechecked at various times: Robin, Artem, Bruce, Bruno, Alesha, Arlene) and a Len cameo. Lisa was a bit grating but she didn't have a massive part and my daughter thinks she's brilliant Paul Burland (from BGT) was the princess's best friend and was very entertaining. The script was a good balance of kiddy and adult stuff, with lots of Essex-centric humour. The prince was handsome, Snow White was sweet, the child dancers good and the costumes amazing! The only element I didn't like was the dwarves. I'd definitely recommend it - plus I won the tickets, which were donated, in a charity auction so it was all in a good cause.

Thanks for remembering x

Sorry I should have worded my post slightly better. Of course we will need to refer to the celebs and pros, so that we can discuss technique used, or technique that should have been used to create a better action etc. But my idea is that we just discuss the dance, and how things could have been improved, perhaps choreography used. Any comments and opinions offered are not "slagging off" the dancers, but are to be used as constructive critisism. A thread not really for the fans, just fans of dancing. Questions can be asked and answers provided by experts and experienced dancers. Dancing is a massive learning curve and I hope that others will get enjoyment from contributing and reading what others have posted.

It sounds like it ticked every box - Panto at its best. I think it is a wonderful art form when done well. I am so glad you all enjoyed it so much.

Speaking personally if I use a dancers name it is usually a mere reference point or sign post usually. Its like saying I had a dreadful night out at X pub in Y street. My purse was stolen, I broke my shoe heel and someone spilled drink on me. One concludes that the person had a rotten time but does not conclude that it is the street or the pub that made it so.

I am quite happy to join Henry about asking Mods for a thread but would like to see if there is a consensus re attic or not. I am also wondering if thee is much point getting a new thread opened just 3 days before we disband. Won't it get closed again if it is neglected for the next 9 months?
