I'm a real novice at this, not used to forums before. I would need help and advice...please ?
I/we have an initial idea, so what is best way to start it?
I'll have to look back to see what a couple of posters suggested..

Suggest you open a thread with some initial guidance to content. I.e. Used to discuss technique of dances. Open to all people. Open to all dance types. Try to make it Strictly related but not to be used for personal criticism of celebs. That sort of thing. You could always bounce it off some people in a PM if you don't want to post without checking first. Suggest An Thropologist might be a good person to bounce off and Cadiva.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try and start something at some point over the weekend, when I'm less tired, and clear in mind.
Really looking forward to the final tomorrow

Sorry, sounds like I've given orders. Only if you want to. I'd do it but I've already tried once and failed . Yes looking forward to the weekend dances.

I'll give it a go, and see how it pans out.
By the way do you dance Ballroom and Latin or Ballroom only?

Here's Betty's thread since it got a few name-checks

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...eston+resource

(apologies that 'charleston' and 'resource' will be in red. My lazy search...)

Looking forward to the future threads, whether they're for this year or more realistically maybe for next year. But it's a really good idea and will make a lovely place to visit. Especially if the whole subforum thingy comes to pass

Thanks Pet Monkey, of course the success of such a thread will depend on whether people actually read and post. I think it could be really beneficial and interesting, whether it be for a beginner or non dancer interested or wanting to learn, or for more experienced dancers/teachers "talking technique" and choreo, for any dance style

Both Ballroom and Latin although I've tended to compete in Ballroom only as it is my preferred dance style. Nevertheless I'm trying to get an improvement in Latin in terms of presentation (no problem passing exams) and slowly seeing it. i'm going to be in a Latin formation team next year (solos) and so will have to up my game!

That's great. Keep up the good work, practice, practice and practice again

Quite. It isn't that big a deal.

Let's use this thread for general dance talk. Nothing much to think about. And then have particular dance champions create

Charleston Talk

Foxtrot Talk

etc.

I have renamed the Nartem AT thread

Argentine Tango Talk

So we have a format established. Then if there is enough action on these threads we can ask again for a space for all of them in the attic.

My advice, and feel free to utterly ignore it, would be to open the thread in this section and, if the Mods think it necessary, they'll move up to the Attic.
I'd also mention that you thought it might be informative and interesting to start a thread for anyone interested to discuss the differences between the 10 dances, techniques used, origins, other dance styles etc and that it isn't about any specific Strictly contestants but that one of their routines may be used as an example of a particular dance or technique.

Thankyou. Do you compete in Opens? (That's what I really want to do.)

Yes, open competitor.
Do you have a partner?

No, once I have a video of my showcase dances I was planning to publish on facebook to support a proper search. We don't have many men at all at our school and no one suitable for me. I did get an offer to dance at pre-champ but he wasn't really right for me and to be honest I think I need to start at novice.

Sadly it is more difficult for a lady to find a partner, men of course have far more choice. There are online dancesport sites where you could advertise, or Dance News perhaps. Hopefully someone will come along but use the time, in the meantime, to really improve your own standard. If there are any other schools in your area, perhaps you could try there. You would be surprised how far people will travel to practice with the right partner.

You aren't the first person to say this but I have lost a lot of weight since then.

But with Xmas coming you could get very bouncy again! . (I suspect I will!)

Is there anyone willing to post a brief technical critique of each of the finalists' dances as a starting point? I know we've been talking about starting next series, but it could be a good way of setting the tone. If it was possible to draw particular attention to improvements since the first time each of the non-show dances was performed that would be fab.
Spin turn

Maybe someone might volunteer. I think I might be too scared to do it and I suspect the person best situated to do it, in terms of skillset and opportunity, wouldn't want to. But I agree that it would be useful to have a technical discussion about each dance, what the content was, areas of improvement or (in a constructive way) things that were too ambitious/difficult.

It might be time to remind everyone that I have posted over 60 clips of the BBC broadcasts of the UK Championships in Bournemouth 1991 to 1994, on YouTube. I have mentioned this before but there might be newcomers to the forum who haven't seen it yet. I kept a detailed list in spreadsheet form, so if anyone wants a copy they can send me a private message.

Incidentally I think ballroom dancing might be an ideal subject for an anthropologist to study as it involves the customs and rituals of primitive people!

The previous 'Dance Teachers Forum', and then the 'Technical Discussion for Dance Geeks' were my favourite threads in this forum, and I have missed them a great deal over the last couple of series. I even tried bumping the Dance Teachers one with some questions for a couple of years, but there was insufficient interest to keep it going.
So, I have more recently confined myself to lurking and not getting sucked into all the nastiness that abounds. But, I would definitely keep an eye on, and contribute where I can to, such a thread through the year. Of course, the advantage of keeping going outside of Strictly-time is that if no-one posts for a day or so it doesn't disappear off the bottom, and maybe we'll have a good little community well established ready for next year.
So, good luck for whoever wants to start it. And if it doesn't keep going, it doesn't keep going; at least you've tried.
