Curious phrasing........

Just watched day of doc again........and something jumped out at me as a curious choice of words by matts doc......when he first see's the painting and clara asks hom if he okay......he says "i've had many lives, many faces, i dont admit to all of them" note, THEM, plural, not just war doc, implying that he has had lives not as the doc besides war doc........

my lives = plural
them = plural form of it

It's not a curious choice of words but correct English

the "them" is a reference to all his lives in general, not a number of lives he won't admit to.

You're reading too much into it.

Why would he not admit to all of his previous incarnations, rather than just war doc.......surely should of been many lives, but i do not admit to 'him'......yeah, i could be reading into it, but just seemed to jump out at me

Yes, because "I've had many faces, many lives. I don't admit to all of it..." makes sense.

Not admitting to 1 life out of 12 = "I don't admit to all of them".

He's referring to the fact he doesn't admit to all of his lives, not that he has more than one life he doesn't admit to.

In this statement, 'him' and 'them' are interchangeable. The use of both creates the same meaning.

Saying: 'I don't admit to all of them' is very different to saying: 'I don't admit to any of them', which is what you are mistaking it for.

Nothing was insinuated.

I'm with the consensus. He actually says

"I don't admit to all of them. There's One life I've tried very hard to forget"

Which makes it pretty clear

I have been wondering about the Doctor's life before we joined his adventures as he aged as the First Doctor.

I mean was he born and aged all the way to 75ish (in human years and then regenerate into the Second Doctor.

Or could there be another incarnation before William Hartnell.

On another threads idea, that would be a radical thing to make a story about. His life before the series started.

I'm sure this has been discussed on many threads, i know i started one simply to ask why he took his granddaughter and i gave my own crazy theory. Anyways its all opportunity for a potential prequel story one day .......

This is where someone inevitably mentions all the faces of the Doctor shown in the mind battle in "Brain of Morbius" from before William Hartnell's.

Oops!

A fact conveniently ignored by all subsequent Doctor Who, rather like the half human thing from the TV movie that's only ever spoken of in hushed tones by loose-tongued people who don't really know what it means.

Hmm never knew about this till now, must finally watch this episode. The Wikipedia article is quite interesting too considering who they choose to play those faces.
