Let me say right out that I dont have a mobile phone
and prob wont have one in the future either.... but thinking about it... it must be great having a phone
thats on the internet and having the ability to get radio
or podcasts from all over the world.

Im probably talking 3g or 4 g whatever it is and maybe theres a flat rate £10 per month package and you can listen to audio without limit .

I have a kindle with 3g and can get on the net.... but
there does nt seem to be sound so the radio is out of the question.... its all black and white too, no colour.

I thought the 3g was there... free ... for life but recently found I could nt get on google, only thing that
seemed to work was the kindle shop

Huh?

Amazon have had free 3G on their e-readers for a long time, although initially it was just limited to Wikipedia.

no, Ive not used kindle on the internet for about
6 months so Ive not used up my band width .
I tried to get on last week and found I could nt
except for the kindle store,

I thought I was on 3 g for free , for as long
as my kindle lasted .
I think they stopped doing that deal when the price
dropped .....

but being on the internet with kindle is
pretty meaningless, no colour and ..... I think Im right in saying .... no sound .... dont think you could get on U tube either
so it was all pretty meaningless.

I dont regret buying the kindle as it is a good mp3 player, a good text reader
and it has great voices for text to voice.

My advice to you would be to buy a Kindle Fire HD ( 2013 ) for £120 (or less) .

Then you can join in the wonderful world of colour

You can also get a mobile phone for emergency use for peanuts

Am I right ? can you get unlimited access to the internet
on your phone for £10 per month ?

if so what other costs would be on top of that ?

£12 is the cheapest mobile package I'm aware of that offers unlimited internet.

As has already been said £12 a month is the cheapest unlimited internet mobile package. You'd also get some minutes for calls and unlimited texts.
The only other cost is the phone itself and the leccy to charge it.

You have misunderstood the 3G part of it.

The 3G is to allow you to download the books when you don't have a Wi-Fi connection

I think Amazon used to allow simple web surfing, news sites, forums that kind of thing but people abused it and it became uneconomical so was restricted.

Giffgaff allows free access to their payment pages if you run out of money as well.

Just about every company allows free access to payment/top-up/my-account pages regardless of data allowance, or even if you're abroad. Except O2 now on their 4G plans it seems...

Amazon did additionally allow free Wikipedia, then later free everything, but later still restricted the everything.

BUT when I bought my kindle... £160 plus,
free 3 g was part of the package, it did nt say for
12 months or some other time limit

waiting about in airports... they can surf the net on
3 g ( or is it 4 g by now ? ) and have access to U tube,
to zillions of radio around the world, to zillions of podcasts....
you ll never be bored ever again.

I had 3g internet on my kindle but it was very boring in b and white and ( I think Im right in saying ) you couldnt get audio or U tube on there .

(prob down to not having flash ? )

No, when it worked, the 3 g allowed me to get onto google and surf the internet , get information.... it was all in black and white but potentially very useful for information and latest news.
But last time I tried I could nt get onto google ,
it looks as if internet surfing has been chopped.

Maybe you should email amazon CS and ask them what's happened?

The £12 internet only works in this country, as with all mobile company's you have to buy an, expensive, data bundle for it to work abroad.

3's £12.90 unlimited internet works in certain countries abroad.

EE also do similar plans that cover many more countries but aren't unlimited.

on this old computor desktop... but thinking about it, it must
be great to have a good phone with a good display and be on the
internet 24 7 .

For all I know there might be a way of hooking it into
a laptop and do some more serious work on the internet... photoshop
etc, saving and downloading stuff.

If all you ve got to pay is 12 per month and a one off
payment for the phone, thats not a bad deal .

Wonder if it could hook into my old desk top so I could
surf on 3g ? )

there are other posibilities Ive never thought of before ?

Most mid to high-end phones made in the last 10 years will allow you to connect a computer to it to access the internet over the phone. Pretty much all bottom of the range smartphones nowadays do it.

That's called tethering and not all phone companies allow it.
If you're going down that route do a lot of research.
