Having just got the new Alanis Morrisett album which was released today, I wondered just how it managed to get onto the number one slot?..... I mean, the single has only been out a few weeks and the album out 1 hour when I purhased it!

I've always wondered how they do the charts? anyone care to explain?

Thanks for the link, however, I still can't see how this an album that is officially released on monday 4th March is already at number one in the charts ! it got there before it was released. Clever indeed!

Maybe I'm just missing the point...........

I expect it could have been chosen as the shops no.1 album? You would have just thought it would go under a new release section though wouldn't you? Pre-orders? (Not likely) Or maybe it was just a prediction?

All questions... no answers as usual from me

Alanis isn't the official number one in the Album chart - Sting is for a second week. Individual shops normally put new releases at the top of their own chart.

The Album Chart for Mar 4th can be seen here : - http://www.worldpop.com/charts/uk_albums_1-25.htm

Proper record shops like HMV and Virgin stick to the proper chart i think, shops like Woolworths put any old pop shit in the top of the charts and decent music gets left out because Woolworths sucks!

Hmmm yes I did get it at Woolworths !

Oh well. I always wondered quite how they worked it all out.

Tesco also make their own chart up. When Hearsay released their new album tesco put it in at 5 when it actually charted at 24 or sumthin vvvvv low

yeha i think they just take a guess @ it.

I prefer shops who separate their new releases as then u can see what is new. Things get missed when they are all jumbled in the old stuff.

Wat did u think of the new Alanis Morrisette album then? I thought it was ace! Not a massive Alanis Morrisette fan as i didn't buy the last album but i heard a few tracks and thought i would enjoy it so bought it.
