Soundbar out of sync
Snakepit Boy
21-12-2013
Hello,

I have just been given a Sony soundbar, which I have installed alongside my Panasonic TV.

However, while the sound is very good, it is slightly out of sync with the TV picture.

It wouldn't bother me if it was just occasional, but it is a permanent feature and very frustrating.

Is there any solution to this?

(Please bear in mind that I'm not a techie!)

Thanks.

Does the soundbar have a delay setting? You would expect this since the picture is quite likely to be delayed compared to the sound.

If you post the model number plus the TV and say how it is connected and what to you will get better advice.

How is the soundbar connected ? if its old style optical then is not unheard of to get lip sync issues -- neither product is faulty per say .

If the TV is modern enough to have ARC ( audio return channel) on hdmi 2 ) then its rare to have lip sync issues when the sound var is connected this way .

Hi,

Thanks for your initial replies.

The TV is a Panasonic Viera TX-L37ET5B, and the sound bar is a Sony HT-CT60.

It is connected using the digital optical cord that came with it.

Does this info help in any way?

If you are using sky as a picture source, there is an option (Services-settings-sound) to add a delay (bottom option in the sound list). There doesn't seem to be the option of adding a delay withing the soundbar itself though.
If you are not using sky or any other box with a variable sound delay option, then you're pretty well stuck unless you can exchange the soundbar for one that has?
You could try turning off all the tv "picture improvements" in the settings on the tv so it shows the picture a tad faster. Try game mode if your tv has it as that will have least picture delay.

All the above assumes the sound is happening before the picture - if it's round the other way (i.e. sound delayed too much already) there's not much you can do about that - try turning on all the tv picture enhancements to try to add a bit of picture processing time.

Look in its handbook for any reference to A/V Sync.

Thanks - yes, it was sound happening before the picture. I've used the Sky delay and that seems to have improved things.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

I have a Samsung TV and Samsung sound-bar.
The TV has a setting for output delay and the sound-bar also has a delay setting.
With the TV sound and sound-bar sound at the same level it is possible to adjust the TV delay to remove the echo. At 30ms the two sound sources are in sync.

Hopefully the o/p will have solved his problem by now as the last post on this thread was December 2013.
