Surprised they didn't keep it under wraps until 7.1 comes out in January.

There are reports of devices bricking so maybe best to hold back a short while.
A xmas release hints that a 'holidays window' might give more time before it is plugged.

I never expected to see it and it also seemingly the release also took many of those in the know by surprise.

I'm personally not bothering to install it. There is hardly anything I need these days that requires JB. Prior to iOS 7 I would have been chomping at the bit to install an untethered JB. These days there is not much benefit IMHO.

The timing makes perfect sense if the vulns they're exploiting have already been patched in the 7.1 betas.

@evad3rs 34m
If you OTA updated your device, back it up in iTunes and make a FULL restore before applying evasi0n7. http://evasi0n.com #iOS7JB

One of the JB community members says it does have been patched in the 7.1 beta.

No, scratch that. I've just confirmed it works on my 3rd gen iPad with 7.1 beta 2.

Odd timing indeed then.

That's what I was thinking. Now Apple have a window to further patch 7.1 before release.

@i0n1c says a Chinese company paid six digits sum.

And in this special Chinese edition, Cydia has been replaced with another Chinese replica, a product by Kuaiyong which is a pirate app download website.

------------

Update: Rumour suggests that this company paid 10 million US Dollars to evad3rs to hijack Chinese jailbreak users. Source also claims that this company is running by Qihu 360 (NASDAQ: QIHU) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qihoo

@saurik tweets that he had had been kept out of the circle before evasi0n released JB.

This explains why Substrate hasn't been updated yet.

I feel the same actually. The only thing I would consider jailbreaking for is for the ability to run a decent ZX Spectrum Emulator and also to get rid of some of the system apps I never use. But neither of those issues really causes me any major hassle so i'm not really fussed.

There were also those "iOS 7 Jailbreak Stolen" rumours from @i0n1c a couple of days ago.
I really do wonder who/how they shared the cash round, if there was any.

The supposed sale/theft could be the reason for the earlier release.
I did think it was just more daft click bait rumours at the time.

There is an interesting thing that may worth mentioning here, their parent company's app had been removed from App Store several times. So is this a revenge? Lol. Let's see how thing goes.

What exactly does this mean for jailbreakers?

It means that there will be very little that currently works on jailbroken iOS 7 until MobileSubstrate is updated.

Cheers 😊

I was wondering if anyone can help me with this question.

I used to be jailbroken on iOS 6, however my iPhone 5 went faulty and was replaced. When I made the iTunes backup to restore to the new handset, my phone was jailbroken.

Would all the settings files for the tweaks I had installed been saved in the iTunes backup?

Yes, the tweak settings are saved in the backups. Although whether that will carry through to iOS7 I'm not sure.

Ahh thanks.

Is there anything I can use to look through the settings files and I delete the ones I don't want?

I will be re-Jailbreaking if that's necessary.

Another interesting aspect here is that this coincided almost exactly with China Mobile finally agreeing to sell the iPhone.

China now has its own IOS app store without the 30% Apple tax.

Have you checked out Spectaculator on the official App Store? The paid-for version (about £2 I think) lets you add your own games, though it doesn't advertise the fact that you can do that for obvious reasons. The free version of Spectaculator does not allow you to add your own games.
