Statistics

For all you stats fans out there here are a few facts..

This is only the second time in the history of the show that the winner of the series began with a Ballroom dance. Both Abbey and Jill danced the Waltz in Week 1, All other winners have began on Latin. (Chris Hollins danced a Tango in Week 1 but also danced Latin on the first week too)

This is the first time in the history of the show that a couple who achieved a perfect 40 before the final went on to win.

This is only the 2nd time that the couple at the top of the leaderboard in Week 1 went on to win the show. (Mark Ramprakash was top of the leaderboard in his respective series)

This is only the 3rd time that a contestant has ended up in the bottom 2 and went on to win. (Natasha in series 1, Alesha and now Abbey.)

Natalie Gumede has overtaken Alesha Dixon as the best dancer on the show with an average score of 36.9/40

Abbey Clancy set the record for the highest Samba score with 39 points overtaking Zoe Ball and Matt Baker.

Tony Jacklin recorded the lowest score of 13 points for the Charleston.

This is the first time in the history of the show that all finalists were female.

More Stats.

The BBC say it had the lowest ratings for a final since 2009.
(Chris Hollins and Ola Jordan).

Good work Doghouse. I noticed that the ratings were at their highest in Ben's last week. I do feel that the programme becomes less interesting as the final approaches, not least because everyone is saying the same thing (I don't want this to end, I've had the time of my life, I'm not ready to go, I want to win for him [/her, the pro]).

I am sorry we didn't break another stat. We produced yet another young female winner.

It shocks me that even Sophie would have been our oldest female winner at age 34.

Really thought we were going to break that 30 threshold this year. (Yes I know Natasha was 31 but series 1 was the test)

Natalie is also the first Swingathong winner to miss out on the trophy. Of three.

I find that hard to believe, the show gets better every year.

Re: ratings. People just watch in increasingly varied ways.

According to this: http://www.barb.co.uk/resources/refe...-do-what-we-do

They don't account for 'timeshift viewing' until 8 days post broadcast.

(Info on time shift viewing: http://www.itvdictionary.com/personal_tv.html)

So viewing on delay isn't accounted for, neither is Iplayer. Also, viewing figures are recorded in only 5,000 homes and then multiplied, so I'm it sure what they really mean anyway.

Series 11 had a record number of 10s - 65 - but only 5 of them came from Craig.

There was a grand total of 1 maximum in Series 1.

Glad that Nat is best dancer ever according to the judges all the training hours paid off imo.

It was Rachel Stevens at one point, not sure if anyone has overtaken her.

I think it was mentioned it was Chelsee the week I went to Elstree earlier this year.

I'm not sure those judges' scores actually equate to who is the best dancer. If Len is in a bad mood, eg, he marks low. If Craig is in a good mood, he marks high.

The marks seem to have little relevance to the quality of the performance.

Natalie might have been the best dancer in your opinion but in my opinion, others have been better. It's a very subjective issue. Technical excellence isn't the only component to take into account, you have to look at performance and posture, ability to offer a diverse range of dances, including ballroom and latin, in an equally creditable manner.

I don't remember any of Natalie's ballroom dances, apart from one where she swung her head around so violently I thought her hair was going to fall off! Or was that the tango? Hmm...

Perhaps they should not give any marks then. I wonder if people would have the same opinion if their fave had the most points over the series.

Other than that I think that the official ratings figures for the programme at the time of broadcast are pretty accurate projected from that sample of ( I presume ) diverse, random viewers, I pretty much would agree with that. It's not so much less viewers as more how we view.

You just need to look at for instance how much the official rating figures for the top Siaps have dropped, yet interest in them seems to me to be about as high as ever.

The judges marks can be high for any number of reasons, but I do think Natalie is the best dancer ever. Alesha isn't even the 20th best dancer though IMO, so the marks should be taken with a pinch of salt.

The fact that the BBC themselves admitted the big drop in ratings, means that they must think the figures are pretty accurate.

Contestants who have never scored below 30: Zoe Lucker, Emma Bunton, Kara Tointon, Ricky Whittle, Alesha Dixon, Rachel Stevens, Natalie Gumede.

Contestants who have achieved a perfect score in both a Latin and a Ballroom: Lisa Snowdon, Abbey Clancy, Natalie Gumede.

Contestants who have achieved 3 perfect scores: Natalie Gumede, Lisa Snowdon, Pamela Stephenson, Kimberley Walsh.

Quite notable how, out of the 11 or so names you mention here, only 3 - Alesha, Kara and Abbey have won their series.
Viewers aren't looking for a winner who can dance straight away. They don't want a perfect dancer who is the judges pet. They really do like an underdog it seems.
