I think Rose trying to get Queen Victoria to say "We are not amused" was not entertaining and was "cringe-worthy".

"The Girl in the Fireplace" is overrated and I don't think Pompadour is some great lady or role model for the ages. And while I'm not a Rose fan, if I had to choose between her or Pompadour, I'd go with Rose.

And speaking of Rose and Pompadour, I think it would interesting to have "The Ultimate Fighting Championship-Doctor Who Female Companions/Guest Stars Edition":

ROUND 1

Rose vs. Pompadour

ROUND 2

Martha vs. Joan Redfern

ROUND 3

River vs. Clara

ROUND 4

Amy vs. Astrid

ROUND 5

Donna vs. Lady Christina

I wonder who would ultimately win?

One thing that strikes me about loads of old Who, and the Web Planet is a classic example, is that things often happen at random either to fill the time or to get to the cliffhanger. There are elements of this in New Who as well but it tends not to be so noticeable as we are always being whisked along to the next thing and they have largely abandoned the cliffhangers. But thanks for the advice regarding the Time Meddler which I havent seen.”

In fairness, the Web Planet isn't particularly highly regarded, even among fans!
