Where can I get 21:9 movies?
I recently purchased an ultrawide monitor (link to video of the monitor I purchased), and I was wondering where i would be able to get my hands on 21:9 aspect ratio movies. it feels like i'm watching a 4:3 movie on a 16:9 screen, except it's 16:9 movie on a 21:9 screen.

21.9 is not a cinema format, the closest I think you will get is 2.35:1 - this ratio is available on DVD/Bluray. You will also find a wider ratios on some releases, 2.40:1 for example, any of these should look better than 16x9.

When watching a 2.35:1 film on a 16:9 television DVD subtitles usually appear in the black bars (bottom).
So watching a 2.35:1 film on a 21:9 television you will have borders all around the picture, pillarbox and letterbox - if you want to see the subtitles. Or, Set the televisions zoom option, losing any subtitles. otherwise you'd have to convert films to divx or mkv which would crop the black bars from a 2.35:1 film and put subtitles in the picture. |
