Are T.a.t.u now banned in Russia?
http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2013/08/16...nment-are-gay/
it just dawned on me the ''lesbian'' duo tatu are russian ! with the new anti gay laws in russia, does that mean their most famous song is now banned, and would it ever have been allowed had the laws been in place during its release? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mGBaXPlri8 |

I honestly think that the whole sexuality thing was just part of their act & not for real. I heard a couple months ago from a friend in Kiev, that Katina had married her boyfriend of 3 years. However it is no big secret that Julia is Bisexual & had converted to Islam, so whatever her sexuality is, she would no doubt act heterosexual for her & her daughter's safety.

but the song (and several others of theirs) still 'promotes' lesbian relations, which is illegal to do in Russia. |

The western media has blown the story of the anti-gay laws out of all proportion, I believe to portray Russia as backward to attack the credibility of Putin's rightful support for Syria (to make it look like the backward countries are irrational and the West is moral and heroic). The law made it a minor crime to promote homosexuality to children (why would anyone want to do that anyway?) That doesn't make T.a.t.u.'s song illegal. Playing it outside a school might be illegal, but you wouldn't get a serious punishment for it. Many LGBT people in Russia are not bothered by the new law, because it doesn't really affect their lives. There's a noisy minority who are active in campaigning against these laws but even many of them are bemused by the West's reaction.
If the West was really that bothered about gay rights, they'd be talking about Uganda or Saudi Arabia, not Russia. |
