Depends why you want one and what else you have. I have a MacBook, an iPad mini and an iPhone. I use them for different reasons and find them all useful.

I mainly want it because I spend 3/4 weekends a month travelling on a train for 3 hours each way. So I think I'll find it a useful way to keep my occupied on the train. I have a laptop which I know I could use but at the moment my battery is so bad it doesn't last without being plugged in (need a new battery) so I thought an iPad would be useful.

Why not just get a new battery?

They may be "quite similar" and share the same app collection - but I have both and find them complementary as each it best at different things!

Yes! They do exactly the same things - but the large screen gives videos, photos and some games a different feel - to me anyway!

I'd get one then.
