Do you really like turkey?
It seems like most decide to have it at Christmas yes, but in reality don't enjoy the meat... friend of mine says, compared to chicken, it's bland and dry.
What's your opinion? Do you have it because you actually enjoy it? |

No, it's pretty shite. It's just about bearable in sandwiches, but masked with stuffing, mayo, rocket and cranberry sauce. We never bother with it, just have lamb or pork instead.

You just chuck it into the oven and roast into oblivion then of course it'll be bland and dry, make the effort (there's loads of techniques and recipes online) and its beautiful

I'm not keen on Turkey, but I'm not a big white meat lover, I prefer beef or lamb.
We're having duck tomorrow. |

I think it's horrible and there's definitely a reason most of us only eat it at Xmas.

Reminds me of the Royle Family Christmas special where Barbara asks who likes turkey. All say they dislike it so she announces they won't have turkey next year. This results in howls of protest, "But it wouldn't be Christmas without a turkey!"
That hit the nail on the head! |

I don't like it very much but my dad loves it meaning we have it all the time throughout the year (to my annoyance). However even though I'm not keen I still feel like you just have to have it at Christmas simply because it's tradition.

I love roast turkey. I seem to be lucky as it turns out moist. I cook it upside down for half the time lightly covered with foil, then cover it in butter, prick the legs and put it the right way up, then remove the foil for the last 45mins,or till golden skin. exact times may vary, always make sure the juices are clear.
I may put an onion and fresh thyme up its bum this year, hehe. |

I've never cooked a turkey and don't intend to. What turkey I've had has been drier than chicken and certainly not any more flavoursome. But turkeys tend to be bigger than chickens and therefore are perhaps more in demand for bigger gatherings. I think this is how turkey got it's 'Christmas appeal'. Plus we don't appreciate the thing that is in our supermarkets every day.

I like Turkey. It can be a bit dry so I don't eat it often though.

The trouble is these days is that you could have a 'Christmas' dinner every day of the week and it would be no more expensive. The time has gone.

Turkey is delicious if cooked properly. It is also a very healthy meal so it's good for you. It needs to be cooked
Thoroughly and well rested. It also needs to be seasoned and basted well. It's also a lot to do with what accompanies it. Homemade stuffing, homemade bread sauce, loads of veg, homemade gravy etc. there is nothing worse than a dry, bland turkey with sauces made from packets. Yuk |

I used be a pure vegetarian and used to do a nut roast, but due to health reason had to become a pescatrian so I have whole filleted salmon. Infact it was on the news (radio 5 the otherday) that Salmon has overtaken Turkey as peoples choice for Christmas dinner. I have all the trimmings but suitable for vegetarians.
