Wouldn't it make more sense to spend money making BBC2 SD regional, not being able to transfer regional news programmes to BBC2 causes problems especially in the summer.

Not really, as there's no need for sport to displace the regional news, if you discount the obsession the Beeb have that BBC 1 must carry the sport.

I agree, i think they think people who watch certain sport don't know where the BBC2 button is on there remotes.

Any update on national versions in HD of BBC Two HD?

Sooner this is sorted sooner they can start BBC One HD Regions in England !!!
I'd settle for a simulcast of BBCNewsHD during the regional breaks. It's better than viewing a red caption and I can't get COM7 where I live anyway.

It's unlikely to happen before 2017, when BBC One HD is expected to be regionalised in England.

i would have thought to end the immediate commitment and to make logistical sense they would do the 3 remaining BBC two Regions/Nations 1st ,
NI, Scotland & Wales, (& Maybe S4C HD too).
then just focus on England and its regions.

And BBC Two HD Regions in England!!!!

Before anyone asks there are at least two BBC2 Regions in England, one is Manchester,
as I heard once an announcer saying BBC2 Manchester
and the other is London, as I heard an announcer saying BBC2 London,
not sure about the other places in England, I think there is one for Oxford,
not 100% sure on that one though

London is Network though and even if you heard that in Manchester it would have been on freeview/Virgin only on on Dsat! in fact was it before DSO? as they arent supposed to exist!

There are no BBC 2 English regions, they've certainly not existed since DSO, and they've NEVER existed on DTT or D-SAT

That is what I thought which is why I queried it!
TBH it would be nice if the regional bit could switch from BBC 1 to BBC 2 as and when the BBC needed it, I guess thats just not feasible though!

On DTT it could be done by a routing macro at the CCM centres, for Sky and Freesat you'd have to swap and re-map all the BBC 1 transponder streams to BBC 2, feasable
as an occasional thing (for a duration of 2 or 3 weeks, to allow regional news on BBC 2 while there's some important sports event running on BBC 1) but not on a daily basis (like for instance to allow regional news on BBC 2 at 3pm every afternoon)

Well that would be a good idea for the Olympics ect, its a shame the BBC dont actually consider doing it, it wouldnt be that bad.

As per title

BBC Two HD (Scotland, Wales & NI) When????

Is there any prediction or timescale for the launch of these channels?

BBC One English regional nightmare can then start!!!
Over 3yrs since this was asked.
and it was shocking we didn't have this sorted then

It's 2017 soon and
people in England do not have BBC One at 101 nor ITV at 103.

There is not 4 HD regions of BBC Two yet

STV HD, ITV Wales HD & UTV HD are present in Scotland, Wales & NI

STV HD is at 104 in Wales.

Channel 4 does not have ad regions sorted
to move from 227 to 104 (Eng/Sco/NI) or 117 (Wal)

only Channel 5 HD, the last terrestrial channel, has made it possible for all regions to have the channel at its rightful position in ALL regions.

Come on BBC, ITV & Channel 4.

They are all beyond excuses, TVL & recession etc

Not sure about Channel 4, but ITV have been rolling out regions on a gradual scale, on Sky and Freesat. It's sorely needed for Freeview though.

The BBC has been hit hard by DQF and Charter Renewal, making it less of a priority to convert regions and nations to HD. As it is part of the new charter, they'll pull off the conversion to HD on a gradual scale.

the BBC license fee excuse is a tiresome one on all levels
id finish the regions/nations 1st then concentrate on England

i know ITV are about half way there (still not bought STV...YET!!!)

Channel 4 could do the same as Channel 5 do with ad regions

its more difficult I think with regards to Freeview and YouView
but sky/virgin are very easy to do regions if they are available

I think you'll find on Freeview that the HD versions of the PSB's are at 101 to 105 respectively.

Unless i am ill informed or completely wrong
i think the below is the current correct situation

not regional BBC One in England at 101,
only Scotland, Wales & NI have this at present.

nor regional BBC Two in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland at 102,
(its BBC Two Eng in HD broadcast at present)

nor correct ITV regions in most English regions at 103,
regions have STVHD, UTV HD & ITV Wales HD

nor the correct advertising regions in ALL regions on 104

not sure how ads work in 105 (think its a general UK wide version)

Yes, that's the case for satellite.

For Freeview the main 5 channels are 1-5 for SD (all regionally correct in all areas), 101-105 for HD, but BBC 1 HD in England is the generic version with no opt outs, and BBC 2 HD is the English version seen UK wide. The Scot/Wa/NI versions of BBC 1 HD are on 101 in those nations. ITV HD is as per satellite, but with fewer regions, C4 HD and C5 HD are just single national versions. (C5 is only one version now anyway)

Correct but C4 HD is London version and no swap is applied anywhere.

It would just add unneeded confusion if the HD version of CH4 moved to LCN 004 in certain areas. The same goes for CH5 HD.

Much more sense to keep the HD PSB's grouped all together next to one another until such time that they can all change LCN.
