My girlfriend recently got a Malinois puppy. If you want a dog with a lot of energy, then look no further. Something that small has no right to have the amount of energy it does, it's non-stop. They're also supposed to be very good with kids and have one of the best natures of any breed.

Border terrier.
Labrador — black, golden or chocolate.

Depends what size of dog you want and how much exercise you're prepared to give it.

Reading a few sites and springer spaniel looks good.

They're Belgian Shepards, they go from this - http://i.imgur.com/gWL5kFH.jpg to this http://i.imgur.com/2pB31Kg.jpg

If you've ever seen Person of Interest, then you'll know the breed. Bear is a Malinois.

On every thread on getting a dog, that is the first things people post....predictable and boring.

From a book on dogs by Bruce Fogle (Ben's dad):

Quote:
“This leggy and powerful dog needs constant mental and physical stimulation; when these are denied it can be quite destructive.”

That refers to the English Springer. I used to live in a house that overlooked a place where a syndicate of pheasant-shooter gathered before the shoot. I'm not too keen on shooting, but I liked to see the excitement and enthusiasm of the spaniels as they got ready to work.

Not sure about breed but as long as you 100% committed then I hope you adopt a rescue dog and give one a good home.

Maybe wait until after Christmas and make sure you're fully able to commit both fincially and emotionally.

I need a dog that will run with me cross country for at least 5 miles 5 times a week or more,

A Border Collie might do if you really are prepared to exercise it and keep it occupied.

Really want a pup as I need to train it to use a dog cage as my house is fully alarmed and I need to keep it caged when I am out, I would obviously train it to like the cage of course from a puppy.

Shame, my mum has one and they're very intelligent, but maybe a bit small for what you want.

A Springer Spaniel might be a good idea though, as you have looked into them anyway. My friend has one and she works outdoors and takes him to work with her each day - he is full of beans and will walk/run miles a day.
