WOW! ”

That has made my day. All those who have harped on for weeks how EE will be top on Xmas day certainly have egg on their face this morning. Cue the excuses!

The soaps and period dramas basically tied.”

I am so shocked at that EE figure Lowest ever rating on the night. Well done Lorraine Newman, or shall we say DTC - those trailers really helped obviously. Could Danny Dyer be putting off the casual audience?

Dr Who slightly inflated there then with Corrie finishing early

So Toy Story 3 got the biggest audience share of the day? That's amazing.

Well, it's a fair bet that DW will be up there with the best.

I would expect Downton to have a significant timeshift due to its length and later end time

Currently No 2 in IPlayer most viewed.

That EastEnders rating is definitely the most noteworthy of the lot though. Down massively on last year, it's lowest Christmas in years, nowhere near #1 for the first time in a long while, and most of all, beaten by Corrie for the first time in so long on Christmas Day. A lot of egg has just landed on certain people's faces with that one (both on this thread and within the BBC).

I'm not making excuses as I'm pleased EE lost the day as I still think a lot more work needs to be done with the show

but

Large chunks of the south did have power outage so EE being a few hundred thousand behind Corrie may not have been the case had the storms not have come.

It will be interesting to see the catch up and iplayer stats in a few weeks time.

Exactly. We're not much nearer to knowing what will be top show than we were yesterday!

Though Agnes looks a good bet for 11.5m+ and I don't think DW will be far behind.

Great day of ratings for BBC1, EE the only disappointment.

For weeks people have been telling us it would bounce back strongly on Xmas Day because it's tradition. I foolishly began to believe it. But not this time. EE's in deeper doo-doo than I thought.

I'll put money on EE having the biggest official consolidated unaggregated figure of the three soaps. I wouldn't be surprised if it got top overnight once we get the numbers without repeats.

Coro St. got 7.9million excluding the repeat. Only just beat EastEnders. But in the proper official ratings, EE will no doubt be ahead.

it's not in deep doo doo at all. what rubbish!

last night's episode was excellent and that's what we were promised. it delivered where it counts in quality not in stunt ratings.

it's got a whole year now to really win confidence in audiences again

It's gonna be interesting seeing if/how the places re-order when the tape-checked / non +1 figs and then later the officials come out.

When do you reckon we'll have to wait for those other overnights?

It really is. Down 1.6m on last year alone despite a stronger and more compatible lead-in (10.2m from Doctor Who rather than 8.something from CTM last year). Not good at all. This could take a while to fix.

I think it's going to struggle tonight in the earlier than usual 7.15pm slot up against the Potter premiere. If a Potter repeat managed to dent it last Tuesday then a premiere surely will.
