Escaped to the drawing room away from the hordes of family. The last escape for a few days

There's absolutely nothing on the terrestrial channels on Xmas Day. A giant pile.

I shall not be able to keep SamuelW enthusiasm under control but I wish each and every contributor a very Merry Christmas and the best of health

I'm predicting that Eastenders will make around 7.5million last night hopefully more but going from Monday's rating I can't see it jumping more than a million. I think Christmas day will surprise people with its rating. I think it could make Ten Million with a push.

It's gotten a lot of stick on here for being given a Christmas Eve slot, which I felt was harsh but Holby City was odd tonight. It was festive in terms of appearance, lots of doctors wearing elf/santa costumes and (CGI?) snow but one character was coming to terms with the death of her mum, a relationship broke down due to one individual's alcohol problem and to top it all off, we had a OAP patient with gonorrhea. Perhaps not the ideal thing to sit down and watch with the family.

Merry Christmas everyone,

And a big thank you to the posters who supply all of the ratings information every day thank you.

There always seems to be at least one shock rating on Christmas Eve! (for good or bad) I wonder what it will be this year! ... Holby to surprise us and win the night with 12m?

The shock rating could be EastEnders hopefully.

Good morning and Merry Christmas all.

Just observing that for the second day in the row BBC2's alternative to Eastenders is Morecambe And Wise. Well, that's certainly complimentary scheduling. So disappointing that the BBC have to rely on BBC2 to provide the happy Christmas Day comedy (and by going back to the 70s and 80s).

Maybe next year, if we have Only Fools and Miranda back.....

They'll be taking their lead from Eastenders.

I agree. It was very disappointing that Miranda Hart could not just give us a 30 mins Christmas Special this year! She had time to film a Miranda style fitness DVD! .

BBC1 used to be so strong at Christmas with comedy. Now they only have one sitcom tonight. Shocking!

@TVRatingsUK: '@BBCOne was the most watched channel across the whole of Christmas Eve, except 7-7.30pm. #EastEnders most watched with 7.46m/31.5%.

Don't know what's more pathetic - 7.5m for EastEnders on Christmas Eve or the fact that 7.5m was enough to be the top show on Christmas Eve.

Holby (& River City, north of the border) beats Midsomer.

@TVRatingsUK: #LastTangoInHalifax series two ended with 5.64m/23.9%, a little down on the series average. On ITV, Midsomer Murders drew 4.03m/17.3%.

Shame Last Tango couldn't get above 6m, it was perfect Christmas Eve viewing and I was hoping it would earn it's place there for many years to come.

Disappointing ratings all round it seems, sadly it will probably be the same tonight.

Not sure what to make of that EE rating. Seems low for Xmas Eve. That word of mouth needs to be super strong today if it is to fend off Mrs. Brown's Boys. Still a chance Corrie may beat it maybe.

The dramas cancelled each other out. They'd be chasing the same audience.

Why on earth is the rating for MM so poor, ITV put a popular drama their and viewers just move to BBC1, even Holby City (of all the things to watch on Xmas Eve.)

@TVRatingsUK: BBC1's Christmas Eve films did well - Toy Story 2 pulled in 3.99m/26.8% and Finding Nemo was watched by 4.79m/23.0%.

We haven't got Holby's ratings yet. It probably did the same as it does every week - mid 4s.

Shown the wrong way around though looking at the shares.

I'd imagine this was more about consistency with Toy Story 3 on ridiculously early today.

Maybe people being killed in a rural village was also not the top choice for Christmas Eve.
And there was a thread last night here on digitalspy about people "complaining" about the new "dark film effect" they used for screen colours.

Wow, Midsomer did really quite badly - 1 million less than I thought it might manage against Holby. Was it set at Christmas?

Everything else in line with expectations, though.
