Scan Computers. It's a big, UK based PC builder who also sell other stuff. They're not a bad company, I've dealt with them for years.

They don't hide the fact that it's an Asus factory refurb. They mention it enough times...

What price would make it a bargain?

It's the old Nexus One with the lower res screen.

Personally, I would go for a brand new Asus Memo Pad HD, which has better sound and camera.

Only 16 GB on-board, but takes 32 micro SD card - the Nexus lacks additional storage facility.

Not a lot more money...

That's a real bargain if anyone can find one in stock...

Reminds me of an old joke ...

Guy goes in a scrap-yard looking for a door for a Cortina (yes it is a very old joke)....

The guy on the counter says: "yes we've got one, they're 20 pounds" ...

The guy says: "wow! Why so expensive, the yard down the road only charges 10 pounds!" ....

The counter guy says: "so why didn't you buy one from the yard down the road?"

The guys says: "they didn't have any!"

The counter guy says: "well if you come back when we haven't got any, I'll match the price down the road!"

Currently £166.95 at Simply Electronics (I've no experience of this retailer though).

The Nexus 7 32GB (2012) for £107 is a decent enough deal really as they are still very nice tablets indeed and still more than enough for most users. Still shop around though as January sales are typically a great time to buy. I was lucky enough to get a used Nexus 7 32GB on eBay a couple months back for around £80 and couldn't have been happier with it, the screen is great and whilst newer tablets have higher resolution, I still think super high resolutions on such little screens are largely pointless, most people just wouldn't be able to tell the difference, only for those with eagle eye vision I suspect.

I also find the size just right, where as some 10" tablets can be tiring to hold for long periods this doesn't happen at all with the Nexus and it's size makes it just right for an e-reader too!

The other bonus of the Nexus is you can update immediately to 4.4 Kitkat (think it actually on 4.4.2 now) and in about five minutes with no loss of data, where as other brands rarely see any updates at all and if they do you often have to reformat the whole thing to install it.

The original nexus is a nice tablet. I got one for £99 just before Christmas. The screen is sharp and videos and text look nice. It's still plenty fast and as others have pointed out it get's updates as soon as they are released. It is my third tablet so I'm not too fussed about it not having expandable storage. I have an on the go cable to use with it anyway. I think it was a good buy at £99. I was also surprised at how fast it updates. When I got it was on 4.2. It had to do a couple of updates but they were so fast. A lot quicker than my Samsung or Apple devices take to update.

No, I don't have 20:20 vision, but the high-res screen makes everything sharper and text is easier to read, and the images are clearer and sharper too - you can definitely see the difference.

If you had the high-res screen for a week, you wouldn't want to go back.

The new Nexus 7 is around twice that price, but it is a different tablet when you compare the specs - as here:-

http://www.androidauthority.com/nexu...12-new-248190/

The Asus HD 7 is of a similar spec to the new Nexus, but with a lower res screen (as the old Nexus), plus facility for external storage. As it can be found at around the same price as the old Nexus, it is the better buy.

I don't like the design of the memo or the look of the UI. As I said, I already have 2 other tablets so having an SD card slot isn't that important to me. Of course there will be people who need it and for those the memo HD is the better buy.

Hong Kong retailer trying to look like a uk shop, might not be uk model, expect shipping times of multiple weeks etc.

If they are Hong Kong based I doubt they are UK (packaged) ones. Not sure there's any difference other than the charger plugs and maybe default language settings for the non-LTE versions. American ones on are on sale via Play with a UK charger for a small saving also.

Carphone Warehouse have got new (older version) 16gb Nexus 7's for 99 quid ...

http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mob...BLETS&ppc=true

Why bother with a refurb when you can get new with a 12 month warranty?

I've got the 32gb, but unless you intend storing a lot of video or movies on board, 16gb should be ample.

That's the one I bought, from there. On Christmas Eve
