ios7 ruined ipad3 sound.

No longer have audio on my iPad 3. It has been intermittent since iOS7 (7.0.4) and now ... Nothing.

The volume button doesn't work. Sometimes it works but changes "sound effects".

Can seem to find a fix. Have done a full reset, the lot.

Have looked around online and it seems a common fault. It's definitely not hardware but iOS.

Any ideas?

If you've done a software restore in iTunes and it's the same then that strongly suggests it's a hardware problem. Why are you so sure it's not?

I have an iPad 3 and the iOS 7 updates haven't affected the sound on mine at all.

I'm inclined to think the issue is hardware-related and a coincidence that it started around the time you updated.

I have an Air, with a lot of problems since iOS7 but software related - crashing Safari, camera won't take photos just video, sound volume is lower.
I'd take yours into an Apple store or repairer and at least have them check it and log the problem.

Basically problems started as soon as iOS7 was installed but the .4 update totally screwed things up.

Sound works via headphones - as does the volume rocker but the internal sound doesn't function - nor does the volume rocker. I only get sound if I move the sounds volume rocker in the settings. This plays a demo ringer sound.

Embedded video, apps, the lot no longer play sound.

I have done more resets and its just the same.

That's a very odd fault. It sounds as much like hardware as software.

As above, I have iOS 7 on an iPad 3 with no problems at all, and so do thousands of other people.

Defo no hardware.

Lots and lots on apple forums with the same issue.

Its so screwed and there are so many triggers and "fixes" for those people that it sounds like crapy iOS7

For example volume rocker and sound work when I use siri.!? But music, apps and video etc don't have any sound or any ability to control volume. Nothing comes up on screen to show volume either.
