Yes in my opinion.
Saying that I thought it was much better than I expected it to be, remember we are British & a large percentage of us love a slice of nostalgia, could a series of this still be a success, I do believe it could.

I think there is scope for a series.
The scenes were a little rushed and felt more like a collection of sketches rather than a flowing storyline. They seemed to be using it as a showcase to reintroduce the old characters and bring in the newer ones.
A full series may give them time develop each episode at a steadier pace.
It'd be helpful if they could slow down the end credits as well!

I gave up on it after 10 minutes. I'd prefer to see all of the original episodes repeated than make a new series.
Roy Clarke's 'humour' makes me feel ill or bores me rigid most of the time. It's as though he has a checklist of randy old women after young men, randy old men after a bit of the other, cringeworthy bosoms and bottoms gags, rambling scenes with no funny punchlines etc. This just felt like his awful Last of the Summer Wine but featuring David Jason.
Clarke was very lucky with his main cast members in both Open All Hours and Keeping Up Appearances. Ronnie Barker and Patricia Routeledge were legendary in their roles and the reason those shows were any good.

Spot on,perhaps all those that did not like it checked their TV booklet to find out where the off switch was.

Yeah... In a way, I think that's what helped this episode get a reasonably decent response. With awful sitcoms such as Father Figure and The Wright Way, you can tell where they're trying to be funny, even though they rarely/never manage it.
With Clarke's 'humour', and in SOAH particularly, most of the time it was hard to really tell what was supposed to be funny, so it avoided being noticeably bad by keeping keeping expectations low.
Indeed, you've only got to look at most of the positive comments here, that tend to focus on how it was nice and affectionate and nostalgic... but there seem to be very few references to it actually being funny.
It was a return to a different comedy era and a nice trip down memory lane. Like meeting a friend you haven't seen in many a year, you pick up where you left off.
I would have been more put off if the writer's had 'updated' it for 2013 where the sense of community is very different and we are more independent wrapped up in our own existence.

Hubby and I were big fans of the original and have the complete series on DVD.
I thought this new one was a bit lame to be honest and was disappointed. Especially when they recycled some of the old scenes (eg the Chuckle-Brother on the end of a dog's lead. Hilarious in the original episode) I suppose they are testing the water to see if they can get a series out of it. Yes, I think they can to a whole new generation who will find it novel and maybe we old stagers will get to love it. Who knows?

Not surprised. I hated the original and could not expect or be bothered to look at this reincarnation. I don't happen to like David Jason, as an actor anyway although I am sure he's a nice man.

I thought it was pretty bad to be honest. I loved the original series as a kid but I barely raised a smile with this new one.
