Asus t100 UK- Camera query
Been looking at this as alternative to Microsoft Surface 2.
It has 1.2mp webcam. Will it work as a normal camera too? I need something that I can use to take "on site" photos... they don't need to be studio quality, just good enough! Any comments welcome Phil |

The Asus T100 (which I just collected from John Lewis) only has a forward facing webcam with 1MP camera.
It's really a detachable netbook than a tablet proper. The Surface 2 has a decent camera and the type cover 2 is actually quite good (I think it's actually better than the Asus keyboard). If you want a Surface 2 alternative with a good camera, then check out the Nokia 2520, it's the only tablet this year that I look at and gives me gadget lust and has a thoroughly decent 6.7MP camera. It's also 4G capable if you want connectivity out and about beyond WiFi hotspots and it has a bright and capable screen that works well outdoors unlike the highly reflective screens on most tablets, iPads included. |

Thanks Big M.
I was hoping the Asus would do the trick because I'm looking for a work machine where I can modify existing excel/word docs and forward them by e mail without corruption, and can access dropbox files via the internet On site visits, I was hoping to use the camera to take photos. as well as populate existing spreadsheet in situ, etc. Colleagues that have i pads find that the specific excel/word docs we use get corrupted, and dont email in full, hence the requirement for a windows machine The surface 2 is quite expensive compared to Asus by the time you buy the key pad etc, So now, if I understand it, the asus will do all I need, but wont let me take photos? |

I would recommend using anything but a tablet to take the pictures. Use a smartphone or digital camera. The Asus hybrid doesn't have a back-facing camera so is no good for taking pictures. Most tablets are a bit rubbish for this as they are awkward to hold up and take pictures plus their screens are not good in outdoors sunlight (the Nokia excepted).
For example when I take a picture with my Nokia smartphone, the images all get automatically uploaded to my Skydrive which is accessible from the Asus just by virtue of me logging in with the same Microsoft account on both devices. I would also look into Skydrive as an alternative to dropbox. When you use Skydrive for storing and sharing you word/excel files, you also get access to the Office Web Apps. |

Having thought about it, you are right when you suggest using smartphone to take photos.
Note your comments re Skydrive instead of dropbox, however, dropbox is the de facto storage tool for our business use- and photos taken with my smartphone are automatically uploaded onto dropbox. using dropbox.com, I have access to all folders without uploading dropbox onto the tablet hard drive, so I'm thinking value for value the asus t100 is the one for me. Thanks for your valuable input- let me know how the asus works out for you. Regards Phil |
