‘Enders Cast Cull: Six Stars Axed
There are going to be big changes afoot for Albert Square in 2014, as a total of SIX characters are set to bid farewell to Walford, following a change in producers. The news comes after the previous culling of six characters in September of this year, and the introduction of Danny Dyer as Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter.

First to go will be Ricky Norwood, who’s played joker Arthur ‘Fatboy’ Chubb since 2010, having transferred from online spin-off EastEnders: E20. During his time on the show, Fatboy was at the centre of a sham marriage, as he prepared to wed childhood friend Mercy Olubunmi (Bunmi Mojekwu), in order for her to obtain a green card. He is also notable for his friendship with Dot Branning (June Brown).

Speaking of his exit, Norwood said: 'I'm incredibly proud to have been a part of EastEnders for the last four years, arguably one of the nations favourite shows. I am deeply saddened to be leaving Fatboy behind, but I'm looking forward to future opportunities.'

Norwood's exit will follow that of his on-screen girlfriend Rachel Bright who plays dippy Poppy Meadow, who was axed in September. They will reportedly leave together, in early 2014.

Next to leave is Tameka Empson, who first played comedy character Kim Fox in a 2009 guest appearance, but later joined as a regular in mid 2010. Kim's most notable storyline is aimlessy running B&B, Kimberley's Palace. Kim also enjoyed a romance with Ray Dixon (Chucky Venn) throughout 2012, which ended when he shared a kiss with Kim's sister Denise (Diane Parish). She will leave in early 2014, in what is being described as a 'happy ending'.

2013 newcomers Khali Best and Gary Lucy, who play Dexter Hartman and Danny Pennant have both been chopped. They will leave in a connected plot. Best's exit comes after the departures of his on-screen parents, played by Clare Perkins and Cornell S John, whilst Lucy is about to start competing in Dancing on Ice's all-star final outing.

Jamie Lomas has been axed from his role as Jake Stone, after just five months in the role. Reportedly the decision was made after producers could see no way forward for the character of Jake, after his affair with Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) is revealed. It was previously announced that Sadie Young actress Kate Magowan was to leave after the storyline culminated. She filmed her final scenes last week, but is now expected to return to filming, to re-shoot her exit, after a change in the initial draft.

Jake's exit has been rumoured to mirror his car accident, which saw a child killed. The tragedy was revealed on screen in November, but the actual event happened off-screen, before the characters joined the show.

Lastly, long-running star Himesh Patel has been axed from his role as geek Tamwar Masood, which he has played since 2007. News of his exit comes before the on-screen return of his sister Shabnam Masood, played by Rakhee Thakrar, and the exit of his uncle AJ Ahmed, after Phaldut Sharma was axed in September. During his time on the show, viewers have seen Tamwar's passion for stand-up grow, and suffering burns in the B&B fire, which was purposely started by crazed father in-law and step-father Yusef Khan (Ace Bhatti). However, Tamwar's most notable storyline was his marriage to Afia Khan (Meryl Fernades), which lasted until mid-2012, after the couple realised they wanted different things, and Afia departed.

Of his exit, Patel commented: 'It feels as though it's the right time, not only for Tamwar as a character, but for me as an actor too. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time as the socially awkward Tamwar, and I eagerly await future challenges.'

EastEnders' new executive producer EEFanatic said of the cull: 'When a new executive producer joins, they come complete with their own vision. My vision was to refresh Albert Square, meaning we had to lose some 'spent' characters, in order to make room for fresh, new ones. I thank each actor for the effort they have put into their E20 counterparts over the years, and wish them all the very best for the future.'

All six starts will depart during the first half of 2014.

Brice yourself, Tina's ex girlfriend to join

Since her arrival in November, it's been heavily hinted to viewers that Shirley Carter's (Linda Henry) younger sister Tina (Luisa Bradshaw White) was on the receiving end in an abusive same-sex relationship, after she sported many bruises in her first scenes, which also saw Tina egged on into leaving her partner by a concerned Shirley. Tina took her sister's advice, and rocked up in Walford. But now, there is a huge shock in-store for Tina, as her violent ex-girlfriend comes looking for her...

"Laurie Butler is the 39 year old ex partner of Tina Carter. They fell for each other after meeting in Majorca two and a half years ago, where Tina was escaping her sham marriage to a Spaniard called Miguel, who she got hitched to for tax reasons. Laurie worked as a barmaid in an english bar, The Beefeater, which Tina would often visit to drown her sorrows, usually confiding in Laurie. They formed a strong friendship, allowing Tina to confide in Laurie about her turbulent childhood, and non-exsistent relationship with daughter Zsa Zsa. During a weekly Karaoke evening, Laurie made an advance on Tina, who found herself responding. Tina was initially reluctant, but soon realised a relationship with Laurie was what she wanted, and needed. It was a happy time for both Laurie and Tina, but there was soon a shocking turn, as they were forced to flee Majorca for London, after a skint Laurie conned her boss, the owner of The Beefeater, small time gangster Harry Baxter. They barely escaped with their lives intact.

Now in London, Laurie and Tina settled into a small flat, the same flat Phil visited in search of Shirley. This is where things turned sour, as Laurie regularly turned to the bottle, eventually more and more. Tina never knew why, nor did she ask why. It was Christmas Day 2012 when Laurie's anger erupted, as she burnt the Turkey, which led to Tina interfering. Agitated and drunk, Laurie hit Tina. Disgusted with her own actions, Laurie profusely apologised, and pleaded for forgiveness, and even though Tina did forgive her, it didn't stop her from doing it again, repeatedly. During the course of 2013, Tina became Laurie's punch-bag, as Laurie was constantly at the mercy of alcohol and her anger. Tina left multiple times, but always returned when Laurie promised things would change. They never did. But things came to a head in early November, during a showdown between Laurie and Shirley, who had escaped Walford following Carl's threats. Shirley may have came away with a few bruises, but it allowed Tina to have a realisation, that she wasn't on her own anymore. It took a few more days to muster the courage, but Tina left Laurie, and followed Shirley to Albert Square.

Feeling betrayed by Tina, Laurie vowed to track her down, and gain revenge..."

Former Bad Girls actress Liz May Brice has been cast in the role of Laurie Butler, having previously appeared in EastEnders back in August, as Tara, a gold-digger who was seemingly interested in Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) because of his new found small fortune. Speaking of her casting, Brice said: 'Since taking on the role of Tara for a weeks worth of episodes, I had hoped for a return to EastEnders, so this is a dream come true. Laurie is a very different role from Tara, and one I'm relishing in.'

On her character, Brice commented: 'She's very messed up. Her adolescent years were tough, because of her sexuality. Her father regularly beat her, trying to force her feelings towards women out, whilst her mother stood back. As soon as she turned 18, she escaped their clutches, eventually emigrating to Spain. Majorca was her paradise, a place where she could be herself. Quite clearly it was the return to London which forced her childhood memories to resurface, allowing the anger and resentment to bubble away, forcing her to drink to attempt to blot them out.

'She's never had the feeling of being loved, and that's why I think she felt so betrayed by Tina, even though Laurie herself is the monster.'

Executive producer EEFanatic added: 'It's wonderful to welcome Liz into the cast. She's a talented actress, and one I have admired for a while. I cannot wait for her to hit our screens as tormented soul Laurie.'

The EastEnders research team is working closely with websites who offer support, help and advice for people in abusive same sex relationships, to help portray the relationship between Laurie and Tina sensitively, and accurately.

Whitney's time comes to an 'Ender
Just hours after it was announced six characters have been chopped from the BBC One soap, another is to leave, as Shona McGarty quit her role as Whitney Dean earlier this month, it has been revealed.

Since her arrival in 2008, alongside the return of Patsy Palmer as Bianca Butcher, Whitney has been at the centre of some of the shows biggest, most shocking and controversial storylines, including her underage relationship with her step mum Bianca's fiancé Tony King (Chris Coghill), and her sexual exploitation at the hands of evil pimp Rob Grayson (Jody Latham).

But now she is set to depart Albert Square, in a fitting fashion. 'We're sad to see Shona go, but we fully respect her decision. As a character, Whitney has been involved in two of the most controversial story lines EastEnders has tackled in its 29 year history.

'Her ending is fitting for her character. It's going to be an emotional one, for sure.' teases a spokesperson for EastEnders.

McGarty herself said: 'I've had a wonderful 5 and a half years as Whitney, but now it's time for me to say goodbye, as I steer towards a career in the music industry. I will always be thankful to EastEnders for allowing me to flourish as an actress.'

Whitney will depart screens in the Spring time, in a currently undisclosed plot.

Two newcomers heading for Walford
Following on from the news that SEVEN characters are set to leave the soap, bosses have today announced that Albert Square will soon see two new arrivals, but little has been revealed about the characters in question.

'In recent years, too many plot outcomes and character identities have been spoilt, because of the vast access to spoilers. By keeping the new characters secret, we hope to tease the audience, bringing big shocks in the process.' explains executive producer EEFanatic.

Whilst the bosses intend to keep information about the characters under lock and key, they have confirmed the actors cast in the roles.

Swapping the A&E for Albert Square is Amanda Mealing, who's best known for her role as tough surgeon Connie Beauchamp in Holby City and soon Casualty. Of her casting, Mealing said: 'I am thoroughly looking forward to strutting through Walford in a pair of high heels! It's an exciting time for me as an actress.'

A spokesperson has teased that Mealing's character will be "Walford's biggest bitch".

Joining alongside Mealing is former Bad Girls actress Danielle Brent, who played evil Natalie Buxton in the prison drama from 2004, up until it's final episode in 2006. News of Brent's casting comes days after it was announced Bad Girls co-star Liz May Brice is joining EastEnders as Laurie Butler, the abusive ex of Tina Carter (Luisa Bradshaw White). They played deadly enemies in the ITV jailbird drama. On joining EastEnders, Brent commented: 'Joining EastEnders is a dream, I cannot wait to get stuck in!'

Brent's character has been teased as being "mysterious" and "guarded".

Both have already filmed their first scenes, with Mealing's said to be airing 'very soon'.

Meanwhile, executive producer EEFanatic has teased 'There are many more cast changes to come.'

Disappointed to see that Whitney's off, she's a brilliant character in my opinion. I agree with all the other axings apart from Danny. Good choices in Amanda Mealing and Danielle Brent! I love both of them. Nice to see that the actress who played Tara is back in another role, she impressed me during her brief stint.

A great start so far!

You know how much I love your Fantasy EastEnders' - and this one is definitely no exeption! Liz May Brice is epic, and I can't wait to see how you handle Tina and Laurie's story Not revealing any info about the new characters is a genius idea, and Amanda Mealing is one of the best possible castings, IMO! She would make such a great EE bitch! A bit gutted about Kim and Whitney leaving but, other than that, this looks like yet another of your phenomenal projects Can't wait for more!

Monday 30th December

It's early morning in Walford. Not a sound is being made in the Mitchell house, that is until a drunken Roxy stumbles in from the back door. As she enters, she trips and knocks a small stack of plates, from the side, onto the floor, smashing them. Phil, with a baseball bat in hand, and Ronnie, carrying Amy, rush down the stairs, and into the kitchen, expecting to find a burglar. Phil groans as they find Roxy, huffing back to bed. With Phil gone, a scowling Ronnie chastises her sister, asking where she's been all night. Roxy is coy, but it's clear to Ronnie that she's been out with Carl, and begins to question her. Roxy simply ignores her, and heads into the living room, crashing onto the sofa. A frustrated Ronnie sighs, before she heads back upstairs to re-settle Amy. A bit later, at the breakfast table, Phil complains that he couldn't get back to sleep after his rude awakening thanks to Roxy, and warns Ronnie that if Roxy continues to act this way, he'll have no problem in chucking her out. They are then interrupted by Sharon, who spent the night with Phil. Ronnie raises an eyebrow, and smirks, knowing the true reason Phil couldn't get back to sleep. Noticing her smirk, Phil tells Ronnie that it's his house, and he can do what he likes, before making his excuses, and leaving for the club alongside Sharon. After waking up from her drunken slumber, Roxy is again questions by Ronnie, but as Roxy complains that there's no bread for toast, she hastily heads for the Minute Mart to grab a loaf. As she exits, Ronnie notices she's left her handbag behind, and after attempting to call out for Roxy, Ronnie decides to catch her up. However, as Ronnie grabs the pack, the handle snaps, sending the bags contents crashing to the floor. Ronnie is shell-shocked to see a bag of cocaine among the mess...

Whilst browsing in the Minute Mart, Roxy bumps into Carl, who thanks her for a good night last night. They then share a steamy kiss, which is witnessed by Kirsty, who remarks that Carl's new scheme to make her jealous won't work. Roxy scoffs, whilst Carl explains to Kirsty that he's over her and she should run back to Max, leading Kirsty to exit the shop feeling embarrassed. Carl leans in for another kiss, but Roxy stops him, explaining that she really must go. Carl pulls her back, asking if she's managed to use the 'little something' that he gave to her last night. Roxy sheepishly shakes her head, adding that she's not even sure she will. A pushy Carl insists she should, as it'll give her freedom away from her controlling sister. Roxy ponders on this, as Carl's phone goes. He answers, and after a short conversation, he pecks Roxy on the lips, admitting that there is 'some business' he needs to attend to. With Carl having left, and forgetting what she went to the Minute Mart for, Roxy goes to return home, but as she passes The Queen Vic, Tina, who's collecting empty glasses outside from the previous night, invites her in for a quick drink. Roxy obliges, and the friends head inside, cracking a fresh bottle of Vodka open. With Phil preoccupied with other matters, Ronnie is sat in the office of R&R, rolling the bag of cocaine between her fingers, when Carl enters, asking Ronnie what she wants. Ronnie warns Carl that if he doesn't leave Roxy alone, she'll force him away. Unfazed by Ronnie's threats, Carl laughs in her face. Whilst in The Queen Vic, Linda breaks up Roxy and Tina's party, telling them to find free booze elsewhere. Roxy suggests they head to R&R.

Arriving at the club, Roxy and Tina overhear a tense confrontation between Ronnie and Carl. Roxy intervenes, asking Tina to leave, which she reluctantly does so, but not without a bottle of Vodka. Roxy then demands to know what the hell is going on. Ronnie holds up the wrap of cocaine she found in Roxy's bag, admitting that she knows it belongs to Carl. Roxy is horrified, but stays loyal to Carl, lying to Ronnie that she was handed it by a random stranger, and had no intention of using it. A smug Carl laughs, but Ronnie can see straight through her sisters lies, and presses her to tell the truth. Carl tells Roxy to step outside, while he talks with Ronnie. Roxy is unsure, but after Carl pressures her, she obliges. With Roxy gone, Ronnie tells Carl that soon, Roxy will be out of his life for good. Carl reveals that he knows all about Ronnie's plan to swan off to Ibiza, smugly telling her that he'll make sure Roxy won't be join her, before striding out of the club. An angered Ronnie takes her frustration out on the desk, swiping it's contents off with force, including the cocaine. Now, Ronnie is left more determined to get Roxy away from Carl, and the fight is set to get stronger...

Elsewhere, at the Beale household, after months of feeling ignored, Cindy is enjoying the attention she's getting from Ian and Peter as they discuss her money stealing antics. Peter pressures Ian into telling Phil the truth, because if he doesn't, things will only get worse. Ian knows his son is talking sense, but is still reluctant, until Peter warns that if Ian doesn't tell him, he will. Ian resolves to talk with Phil, and drags Cindy alongside him, with Peter following. Finding Phil in R&R, with Sharon, Ian musters up the courage to tell Phil the truth, who flies off the handle. Sharon manages to calm him down, saving Ian from a flying fist. With things calming down, Sharon suggests they head to the Beale's to sort this out properly. All parties involved agree. Later, at the Beale's, things are quickly and rationally sorted when Cindy offers to repay Phil all the money she stole. Phil is pleased, but he's still not entirely happy as he and Sharon leave, heading for a drink in the Vic. Phil thanks Sharon for calming him down, which allows Sharon to realise she's good for Phil, and decides to restart their relationship properly.

In the pub, Sharon rubs her relationship with Phil in Shirley's face, but Shirley gets her own back by revealing that Phil tried it on with her last week, just before he slept with Sharon. Feeling embarrassed, Sharon then makes it clear to Phil that she won't be his rebound, leaving him worried that he's blown his chances again.

Also today, struggling with the workload at Butcher's Joints, Billy offers a pleased Lucy her job back. However, he's soon left regretting it as she takes charge, reinstating Danny. Meanwhile, Johnny gets defensive when he finds Linda on his laptop, after she forget to charge hers. Linda is confused by her son's reaction, but soon understands when Johnny admits he was worrying about his University work being deleted. And, as Mick arranges a New Years Eve party, he opens the letter Johnny handed him the previous week, only to find a Wedding Invitation addressed to him, from Nancy...

Fantastic stuff!

Absolutely fantastic episode, the Ronnie/Carl/Roxy scenes were actually better than they were on TV, I am enjoying the Carters, from the tiny bit we've seen of them of course. :P

Tuesday 31st December | New Years Eve (1/2)

Sat on Arthur's bench, Ronnie quietly observes as the Market Traders set up their stalls for the day ahead. She's clutching a bunch of flowers in one had, and her locket in the other. She opens it, and starts to falter when she caresses the photo of a newborn James, just hours before he died, three years ago. Sharon, also clutching flowers, walks through the Square, coming to a halt when she notices Ronnie. She cautiously asks if Ronnie's okay, to which Ronnie replies "like you care", whilst drying her moist eyes. Sharon can sense Ronnie's lashing out in grief, so takes a seat next to her. Sharon then looks down at her flowers sadly, before talking about Dennis' murder, 8 years ago, on this day. With the ice thawing between the pair, Ronnie admits that she didn't know about Dennis, going on to open up about James' death. Sharon sympathetically smiles. It seems the two have reached a new understanding of each other. Sharon and Ronnie part ways, with Ronnie heading to the church, and Sharon walking over to the spot where Dennis was fatally stabbed. Outside of the Vic, Sharon bends down on the pavement, stroking the spot where Dennis passed away in her arms, tenderly wishing him a happy new year. She places the flowers down, and is overcome with emotion. She quickly rushes into the Café.

Following Phil's surprisingly calm reaction yesterday, after hearing it was Cindy who stole his ten grand, Cindy is in an upbeat mood, feeling as though she's got away lightly. But in the kitchen, in hushed voices, Ian and Denise are discussing what to do about Cindy. Denise tries to persuade Ian to allow her to speak with Cindy, but Ian disagrees, insisting there's only one thing he can do. He then picks up the phone, and a sticky note from the fridge, dialling the number scrawled down. Denise looks appalled.

Peter is serving a customer on the Fruit and Veg stall, when Lola walks past, pushing Lexi's pram. Peter stops her, and tries to give her a free bag of fruit. Lola scoffs, telling Peter that a couple of plums won't fix what Peter said, when he dumped her. Peter pleads with Lola to forgive him, he was acting irrationally when dumping her, and being apart from Lola has made him realise what he wants - her and Lexi. Lola ponders on this for a second, leaving Peter on edge. Lola tells Peter to meet her in The Queen Vic at 9pm, before taking the bag of fruit, and walking off. Peter smiles to himself, closer to another chance with Lola.

After spending the night together, Roxy and Carl are in bed. Roxy's head is snuggled into Carl's chest, as Carl strokes her hair. They are interrupted by the sound of Roxy's phone ringing. She groans, reluctantly leaving Carl's side to reach for her handbag. She rummages through the bag, and pulls out her phone. It's Ronnie. Roxy stares at it for a moment, before rejecting the call. Carl is pleased, as Roxy jumps back into bed. Re-settling, Roxy admits she's looking forward to spending the new year, with her new man. Carl smiles, revealing to Roxy that he's got a surprise for her. Roxy is intrigued. Carl dips into his bedside cupboard, and pulls out a brochure, and two tickets. "Paris?" Roxy asks, looking over the brochure. Carl reveals that he's booked two tickets for them to spend the New Year in style, and they fly out tomorrow. Roxy squeals in excitement, jumping in for another steamy encounter with Carl.

Holding her phone, Ronnie quietly sobs, as the person closest to her, Roxy, has forgotten the anniversary of James' death.

It's chaos in The Queen Vic, as whilst Tina and Shirley are at loggerheads over sharing a bedroom, Mick and Linda are setting up tonights New Years Eve party. Tina asks Mick if she can move into the spare bedroom, to escape Shirley's 'sprout wind', but Mick refuses, reaffirming that the room is Nancy's, if she ever shows up. Mick distantly thinks about the wedding invitation he received, which doesn't go unnoticed by Shirley. Outside, Johnny is taking Lady Di for a walk, when he bumps into a passing Whitney, knocking her washing onto the tarmac. An embarrassed Johnny profusely apologies, but it's left even more red-faced when he picks up Whitney's bra, which she quickly snatches back. Johnny awkwardly says sorry, but Whitney just storms off. Johnny sighs. Danny, who exits the Café with a tray of coffees, catches Johnny's eye, who quickly returns to the pub with Lady Di in tow.

Having now left Carl's, Roxy is stumbling her way around Walford, when she looses her footing, and is sent crashing to the ground. A passer by attempts to help her, but Roxy rebuffs him, opting to help herself. As she scrambles up, something catches her eye in the pawn shop. A ring. It takes a few moments for Roxy to twig what it is, but once she does, her mouth drops... it's the signet ring which belonged to her father, Archie.

Ian hands Denise a freshly made cup of tea in the Beale's kitchen, whilst Cindy watches TV in the living room. Denise asks Ian if she can have a word, about Cindy, to which Ian obliges too. Denise slowly closes the kitchen door, much to the suspicions of Cindy. Denise asks Ian if what he's doing is the right thing to do, for Cindy's sake. Ian sticks by his decision, adding that at the end of the day, she's not his responsibility. Denise tries to talk further, but Ian cuts her off, as his mind is made up. Ian then reveals that "she's already on her way." Ian then makes his way into the living room, finding Cindy listening at the door. Cindy asks what's going on, but Ian keeps schtum. In the background Denise disapprovingly shakes her head, sipping from her tea.

After exiting the Café, Sharon walks across Bridge St, where Phil pulls up in his Range Rover, stopping Sharon, who quite clearly doesn't want to talk to him, as she walks on. A persistent Phil jumps out of his car, and gently pulls Sharon back. Sharon snappily tells Phil that she's not in the mood, especially considering the date. Phil looks guilty as he realises it's the anniversary of Dennis' death. Sharon goes to leave again, but Phil stops her, apologising for what happened with Shirley, but it's her (Sharon) he loves. Sharon pouts, as Phil affirms how good they would be together. Sharon looks into Phil's eyes, and just as Phil leans in for a kiss, Sharon walks away. Phil calls after her, but to no avail. Has Phil well and truly blown it?

Ronnie is knelt at James' grave, tending to the flowers. It's just her, as it was the night James died. From behind, a figure approaches Ronnie. It's Roxy, who explains that she got Ronnie's voicemail, and rushed to be with her. Ronnie sarcastically comments that she hopes she didn't ruin her morning with Carl. Roxy's appalled, telling Ronnie she just can't help herself. Ronnie rolls her eyes in discontent. Roxy tells Ronnie that she and Carl are good together, and will be going the distance, especially as Carl's whisking her off to Paris tomorrow. Ronnie is angered, telling Roxy that she won't be going to Paris, but Ibiza as Ronnie has planned. Roxy laughs, telling Ronnie that she can't control her any more. Roxy then hands her sister the signet ring that belonged to Archie. "Do you know what? You're exactly the same as Dad." spits Roxy, as she walks away, leaving Ronnie reeling.

Cindy is still watching TV, when she's joined by Peter, who's just got back in from work. Cindy asks Peter if everything alright with Lola now, to which Peter stormily replies that it's none of her business. Clanging is then heard from upstairs, as Ian comes down the stairs, carrying Cindy's suitcases. A confused Cindy asks what's going on. Ian replies that after the stunt she pulled by stealing Phil's money, she can no longer stay in Walford, meaning Cindy's returning to Devon. A stubborn Cindy proclaims over her dead body. There's a knock at the door, which Ian instructs Peter to answer. Peter opens the door, and is pleased to see his nan, Bev Williams standing before him, who proceeds to greet him with a big hug. Peter guides her into the living room, where Bev warmly greets Ian. Cindy is less than pleased to see her nan. Bev asks where Lucy is, to which Ian responds that she's at work. Bev's disappointed. Ian asks after Gina, Bev's daughter. Bev reveals that she moved to Glasgow in early 2010, after falling in love with a Scottish widower she met online. Bev sternly looks over to an anxious Cindy, asking what the hell she's been up to.

Still at James' grave, Ronnie is fiddling with Archie's ring, feeling uneasy at its presence. She's furious that Carl's managed to turn Roxy against her. Ronnie rises, and begins to slowly walk back towards Walford...

Dot is pottering about in the Laundrette when Sharon enters, wanting to talk. Dot invites her into the back, asking how little Denny is. Sharon explains that he's fine, and is staying at a friends tonight. Dot is pleased to hear Denny is finally settling down. Dot asks if Sharon wants a cuppa, but she politely declines, before breaking down into tears. Dot is slightly taken aback, before she asks Sharon what's the matter. Sharon insists it's nothing, but Dot isn't fooled. Sharon says she's just upset, as New Years Eve brings memories of Dennis' murder back to her. Dot comforts Sharon, admitting that she too thinks about Dennis. The pair then share fond memories of Dennis, who died eight years ago. After this, Sharon takes the opportunity to ask Dot for advice about her current predicament with Phil. Dot advises her to go with her heart, only then will she know what she truly wants.

Meanwhile, in the main area of the Launderette, Whitney has just entered, having come to collect her washing. As she opens the machine, Johnny enters with a bag full, awkwardly keeping his head down as he notices Whitney, whom he got off on the wrong foot with this morning. Johnny takes the machine next to her, but doesn't know how to work it. Instead of asking Dot for help, Johnny tries to work his head around it, but he proves useless. Noticing his struggle, Whitney steps in. Johnny is thankful. He also apologises to Whitney, inviting her for a free drink tonight in The Queen Vic, an offer which Whitney snaps up. Johnny is glad, but is left embarrassed when Mick, who enters to invite 'local legend' Dot to tonights party, makes a comment about Johnny being a 'babe magnet'. Whitney smirks, telling Johnny that she'll see him tonight, before leaving. Mick proclaims that Johnny is well in there. Johnny bashfully smiles, and then makes his own excuses to exit. On his way out, Johnny bumps into Danny, and the two share a lingering look. Johnny apologises, and quickly runs away.

Roxy and Carl are leaving the latters flat, as they head to the New Years Eve party. Carl stops, he's forgotten his phone. He tells Roxy to head over without him, he'll catch her up. Roxy agrees, and heads off into the night. Carl turns back to enter the flat, and Ronnie emerges from the darkness, telling Carl that she's got one last offer. A curious Carl smirks, inviting Ronnie in.

Tuesday 31st December | New Years Eve (2/2)

The New Years Eve party kicks off in The Queen Vic, and the residents flood in. Linda gives Mick a twirl of her new dress, which Shirley remarks that it looks like an explosion in a Quality Street tin. Linda scowls. Tina sets up the karaoke machine, and starts to belt out Wham! classic 'I'm your man', which brings good memories of Heather for Shirley. At the bar, Max and Cora trade catty snipes, when Kirsty joins them, asking Max to buy her a drink. Max scoffs, and walks away, joining Dot, who's rejecting Fatboy's offer of a Sherry, as she only drinks for 'medicinal purposes'. Lauren enters, joining her dad. She becomes awkward as she notices Jake celebrating with Sadie. Max keeps a close eye on the pair. At the other end, Johnny is pleased when Whitney rocks up. Johnny presents her with a free glass of bubbly, and the pair seem to hit it off. A proud Mick watches on. At their table, Dexter suggests to Peter and Fatboy that they move on soon, in case Lola turns up. Peter declines, admitting that he's waiting for Lola, as he's made the worst mistake of his life. Behind the bar, Linda just can't keep away from the bubbly, as Tina continues sing, much to the crowds amusement.

Tucked up on the sofa at home, Alfie and Kat are enjoying each others company. Kat admits that she's glad 2013 is coming to an end, as it was one of the worst years for her, and here's to a better 2014 with Tommy, and the new baby. Alfie promises to give Kat, Tommy and the 'foetus' everything they deserve.

Mo's up singing on the karaoke now, as Cora bobs away. Sharon is sat with Denise, who's drinking the night away. Sharon tells Denise of her possible reunion with Phil. Denise laughs, telling Sharon to stay as far away as possible as Phil's trouble, and she should know it. Johnny's still talking with Whitney, when Danny interrupts them, ordering a pint from him, and a G&T for Lucy. Danny remarks that it's good to finally have some eye candy behind the bar. Johnny awkwardly laughs, as he hands Danny the drinks. Johnny turns to Whitney, asking if Danny was flirting with him. Whitney tells Johnny that Danny would've flirted with that dog of his. In the hallway, Mick and Linda share a kiss, proud of the Vic's party they're holding.

Back in the bar, Sharon's watching on as Denise attempts to drink the bar dry, when Phil enters. He makes a play straight for Sharon, leaving Denise to become the third wheel. Getting the hint, Denise scarpers. Sharon pouts, pointing Phil in Shirley's direction. Phil assures Sharon that he and Shirley are over, and have been for ages. It's her that he loves, and wants to move in with him. Sharon ponders on this. Shirley walks over, and makes a snide remark in Sharon's direction. This allows Sharon to make a swift decision, introducing Phil as her boyfriend! Shirley grimaces as Phil and Sharon share a steamy kiss, their first as a reunited couple.

In Carl's flat, Ronnie and Carl are standing in darkness. Carl comments that he hasn't got all night, as Roxy is waiting for HIM. Ronnie holds out a envelope, and hands it to Carl. "Five grand. Leave Walford. Leave my sister, and it's all yours." smirks Ronnie. Carl checks the amount, and is seemingly about to accept it, until he chucks it up into the air. Carl then rages at Ronnie, pushing her up against the wall. Ronnie wails in pain. "It's not enough Ronnie. It's not enough." menacingly says Carl...

In The Queen Vic, the night is still going strong. Peter sadly looks at his watch. It's 11:42pm, and there's been no sign of Lola. Dexter suggests maybe its time they headed up west. Peter, Fatboy and Poppy agree, and they head out. Peter stops as he sees Lola enter. Lola says she's sorry for being late, Lexi wouldn't settle with Abi, before asking why Peter wanted her to come. Peter admits he was a fool to let Lola go, and there's nothing he wouldn't do to get back together with her. Initially frosty, Lola starts to warm towards Peter. Peter asks if they are back on. Lola doesn't give a clear answer, only instructing Peter to buy her a drink. Dexter looks disappointed. Whilst, Johnny and Whitney are getting on like a house on fire, when Johnny starts to feel queasy, as he's had too much to drink. He rushes outside, feeling the need to be sick, leaving Whitney on her own. Linda suggests she go check on him, but Mick stops her, telling his wife to let Johnny get some fresh air. Linda agrees, tending to a punter.

At the Beale's, Bev and Cindy have been left to talk. Cindy reveals to Bev that all she wanted to do is fit in in Walford, and she thought stealing the money would help her, as she could've helped her 'friends' look for it, but it failed, and she was left more alone than ever. Bev suggests that maybe it's best if Cindy does return to Cornwall. She can easily fit back in, and her old friends have been dying to see her. Cindy agrees, and heads upstairs to pack. Bev empathetically smiles at her granddaughter. With Cindy upstairs, Bev begins to root around in the Beale's, and comes across an old scrapbook of Lucy's. She opens it, to find pictures of her late daughter Cindy. Bev affectionately strokes them.

Sat on the bench, Johnny is getting some fresh air, after feeling sick earlier. Danny walks past, asking Johnny if he's okay. Johnny replies that he's feeling fine, leading Danny to continue walking on. Johnny asks him to stay, wondering if Danny meant what he said about Johnny being eye-candy behind the bar. Danny confirms he did mean in, taking a seat beside Johnny. Johnny looks longingly in Danny's eyes, and hastily leaps in for a kiss. Danny responds, and the two find themselves in a passionate clinch. Little do they know they've been seen, by a cigarette-smoking Shirley...

It's tense between Carl and Ronnie, as he still has her pinned against the wall. Ronnie struggles to break free. Carl pushes her onto the sofa, kneeling on top of her. "You're damaged goods Veronica." spits Carl, as he starts to undo her shirt buttons. Helpless, Ronnie reaches over to the table, and picks up what ever she can, and whacks Carl around the head. Glass goes flying as a Champagne bottle smashes into Carl, sending him to the ground. A shaken Ronnie looks down at Carl, with blood seeping from his head, and flees...

Wednesday 1st January | New Years Day [Episode 1 of 2]

Ronnie is sat on the sofa, in near darkness. She hasn't slept at all, because every time she closes her eyes, she sees Carl's bloodied face...

Everybody is suffering from hangovers in The Queen Vic, except Mick, who's cooking breakfast. Worse for wear, Shirley and Linda are sat at the table, still in their bed gear, shuddering at each clang Mick makes, as well as making intermittent verbal swipes at each other. Johnny trundles in, wiping his tired eyes. An equally tired Tina joins them. Mick asks Johnny why he didn't stay up for the traditional Carter New Year celebrational drink, which took place after the pub had closed. Johnny replies that he felt ill after drinking too much, and headed to bed early. Tina comments that he looks guilty, assuming he must have copped off with someone. A cheery Mick asks if it was that girl... Beyoncé(?) "Whitney" corrects Johnny, smiling coyly at the ground. Mick is pleased to hear Johnny is a hit with the ladies of Walford. Tina jokes that she is as well. Shirley scowls at Johnny, knowing he's lying. As he serves up his eggs, Mick asks Johnny what he has planned for the day, perhaps a date with Whitney. Johnny sheepishly admits that he's going to sister Nancy's wedding, leaving Linda reeling, has she had no idea Nancy was getting hitched...

Over at the Mitchell's, Phil is helping Sharon and Denny move in. Sharon tells Phil that she wants to make a few changes around the house, as the curtains stink like Shirley. Phil agrees, adding that he'll dig out his credit card. As they walk into the living room, they are met by Ronnie, who admits she needs a word with Phil in private. Sharon agrees, and heads upstairs to help Denny unpack. Phil asks what is it Ronnie wants. Ronnie admits she's done something stupid...

Back at the Vic, Linda and Mick are arguing about the fact Mick didn't inform her of Nancy's impending wedding. Mick replies that he didn't want to shove it in her face, but did leave the invitation on the side, clearly in her view. Linda doesn't believe him, but as she checks the side, she comes across Nancy's somewhat tacky Wedding invite. A disheartened Linda slumps back onto the dining table chair, apologising to Mick, who admits he understands. Johnny asks if they're going to go, or not. Linda is in two-minds. She says she needs to think for a moment, dashing into her and Mick's bedroom. Mick tries to follow her, but Shirley stops him.

Phil is horrified by Ronnie's admission, but agrees to help her out. He calls Sharon down from upstairs, and hands her a wad of cash, instructing her to go buy those curtains. Sharon's confused, as she thought her and Phil were going to make a day of it. Phil admits he's sorry, but something has cropped up, which he needs to deal with. Sharon reluctantly accepts this, and heads out with Denny, whilst Ronnie and Phil head to Carl's flat...

An upset Linda is sat at her vanity table, distraught at the news of daughter Nancy's wedding. There's a knock at the door. Linda abruptly shouts at whoever it is to go away. The door opens, and in steps Shirley. Linda huffs, asking if she's come to gloat. Shirley shakes her head, surprising Linda. Shirley perches on Mick and Linda's bed, asking Linda why she's so up in arms about Nancy's wedding. Linda explains that Nancy is only marrying Wayne, a man they hate, to spite her and Mick. Shirley can't believe this, as she thought Nancy was smarter than that. Linda sarcastically laughs, asking Shirley how she would know, as she hasn't seen Nancy since she was 6. Shirley laughs that she was a pretty sassy six year old. Linda agrees. Shirley then asks Linda what happened between her and Nancy. Linda explains that she and Nancy have always had a volatile relationship, as Nancy would always rebel against what Linda wanted for her. Shirley admits that Linda does come across as a bit smothering, prompting a scowl from Linda. Shirley urges Linda not to make the same mistake as she did, by abandoning her daughter. Linda exclaims that she's nothing like Shirley. "So what are you sitting there for, feeling sorry for yourself? Go and be at your daughters side, on the biggest day of her life." Shirley encourages, before leaving the room. Linda's given food for thought, but will she head Shirl's advice?

Phil and Ronnie are walking over to Carl's, like they mean business. As they arrive, they come across Roxy, who's banging on the front door, shouting Carl's name. Roxy stops, asking Phil if he's seen Carl, as he didn't turn up at the Vic party last night. Phil says he hasn't. Ronnie jokes that he's probably half way to Paris by now. Phil uncomfortably frowns, whilst Roxy rolls her eyes. Roxy huffs, and picks up Amy, and stroppily heads off, in search of Carl. Ronnie sighs, instructing Phil to open the door, handing him the key she stole from Carl last night. As he looks around the square for potential witnesses, Phil is wary, but after Ronnie reminds him Carl was the one who nearly killed him, Phil puts the key in. The anxious pair then head inside...

Mick, Shirley, Johnny and Tina are sat at the bar, all dressed in their Wedding finery, wondering if Linda's going to join them. A bacon sandwich eating Tina groans as she manages to squeeze ketchup down her top. Shirley and Johnny both grimace. Mick sighs as he looks at his watch. He realises Linda's not coming, so ushers his family out of the pub and into the car. Everybody jumps in, and just as Mick is about to drive off, Linda rushes out, and stops him, admitting that she's been a stupid cow, and is attending Nancy's wedding. A delighted Mick grins. Linda opens the passenger door, and instructs Tina to get out. Tina asks why. Linda explains that someone's got to look after the pub, and she'd rather it were Tina than Shirley, who has previous in burning down a pub. A complaining Tina reluctantly agrees, and storms inside the pub in a huff as Mick, Linda, Shirley and Johnny head to Nancy's wedding.

In Carl's flat, Ronnie and Phil are cautiously entering. Ronnie's clearly shaken. Phil notices, and tells Ronnie to stay back, he'll go in. Ronnie thanks him. Phil pushes the door leading to the main room slightly, anticipating to see Carl. But as the door creaks open, Phil sighs, calling Ronnie in. Ronnie reluctantly follows, and is horrified to find nothing but spots of blood. Carl's vanished. Ronnie can't quite believe it, she honestly thought she'd killed him. Phil tells her to keep quiet, Roxy could come back at any moment. Phil then instructs Ronnie to get over to the Arches, where they'll talk more. They both leave, and head towards the garage.

Denise is flicking through a gossip magazine behind the counter in the Minute Mart, when Ian enters. Denise asks how Cindy is doing in Cornwall. Ian says that he had a call from Bev this morning, and all seems fine, but Cindy was fairly subdued on the way home. Denise can understand this, but wonders if Ian made the right decision. Ian sticks by it, claiming Cindy not to be his responsibility. Denise responds that now Cindy's gone, it'll be up to him to deal with paying Phil back. Ian explains that it's all in hand, before leaving the shop with a smile. Denise is sceptical.

Phil opens up the Arches, and steps in with Ronnie close behind. They're about to talk when they hear a clang. "Jay? Is that you?" Phil calls out. A figure steps out of the shadows. Phil grabs a crowbar from the side. "Philip. Veronica." smirks Carl. Ronnie and Phil's mouths drop in shock...

In the Minute Mart, Denise is still reading her magazine, when Roxy enters with Amy. Roxy asks Denise if she's seen Carl anywhere. Denise thinks for a moment, but she hasn't. Not since he came in for a cheap bottle of bubbly yesterday. Roxy sighs, thanking Denise anyway, and heads for the exit, when Kirsty, who was browsing in the tinned food selection, stops her. "Disappeared, has he? Not answering your calls. He's gone love, trust me." says Kirsty. "Whatever. Enjoy that meal for one, yeah?" scoffs Roxy, as she storms out of the shop, with Amy in tow. Kirsty's words have rattled Roxy more that she let on...

In Watford, Mick pulls the car to a stop outside a battered looking community centre. Linda grimaces, complaining that it's not the countryside manor, horse and carriage affair she'd always planned in her head for what Nancy's big day would be like. Shirley admits she likes it, as it reminds her where she and Kevin got married. Linda bides her tongue. Mick, Johnny, Linda and Shirley all leave the car, and head inside to the ceremony. As they're met with a congregation of tracksuit wearing guests, Linda's disgusted to see that Nancy's dress is in fact a two piece tracksuit, "but at least it's white." comments Johnny.

Carl walks towards Ronnie and Phil, who's clenching a crowbar, ready to strike. Carl rants about how the Mitchell's think they own the Square, looking down at anybody and everybody, singing their theme tune constantly, but he's not listening. Ronnie starts to play her own game, using Phil as a pawn. She stirs up memories of how he tried to kill Phil, threatened Shirley and Ben, gave Roxy cocaine, and even attacked Ronnie herself. Carl smirks, making Phil see red. He strikes him on the leg with the crowbar, sending him crashing to the ground. Phil raises the crowbar to strike a cowering Carl again, but Ronnie stops him, asking what is wrong with 'all' men. She uses her dad, Archie as an example, wanting to know why they crave power, and status, and act violently to gain this. She then bends down to Carl, asking if he's got issues with his Mummy. Carl 'hisses' at her. Ronnie takes the crowbar from Carl, telling him that he's going to apologise, and then leave Walford for good. She'll even take him to the station. but if he ever comes back, Ronnie will deal with him. Still on the floor, Carl laughs, but stops when Ronnie hits him with the bar. "What did you say?" asks Ronnie, somewhat patronising. "Sorry." meekly says Carl. "Good boy." smirks Ronnie, having got what she wanted...

The Carter's have now taken their seats at Nancy's wedding to Wayne Ladlow. The registrar is reciting the vows. Nancy spots her family, and cheesily grins at them, pleased they have come. She then repeats after the registrar. Linda's clearly uncomfortable, as Nancy completes her vows. It's Wayne's turn. After he completes his, he playfully slaps Nancy's bum, to which the guests cheer at, except Nancy's family. Mick is angered, and abruptly stops the wedding. "No offence Wayne. It's just your attitude stink." says Mick, as he walks down the aisle. "Dad?" a bemused Nancy says. Mick then hoists Nancy over his shoulder, and heads out. A shocked Johnny, Linda and Shirley all follow, locking the door behind them, trapping the guests. Nancy screams as Mick bundles her into the car. They all clamber in, and Mick drives off with speed...

Ronnie and Phil walk Carl towards the Walford East station. Carl doesn't even look back as he walks through the ticket barrier, and soon he disappears up the stairs. Ronnie grins to herself, but Phil warns that he might not have gone. Ronnie disputes this, saying he's gone for good, and wouldn't be stupid enough to come back to Walford. As they part ways, Phil remains dubious about Carl's departure, and he's right to be, as Carl sneaks back down the stairs....

Sat in the park, as Amy plays, Roxy calls Carl again, but it goes straight through to his voicemail...

With Phil having left to join Sharon, Ronnie is home alone, ordering a taxi to pick her, Roxy and Amy up, and drop them off at the airport. There's a loud bang in the kitchen, which scares Ronnie. She goes to investigate, but as far as she can see, it was just a pot falling from the side. However as she walks away from the kitchen, there's another noise, and as she turns back, she drops the phone in horror... "Didn't think you could get rid of me that easily, did ya?" smirks Carl...
