Christmas triumphs and disasters
What went right and what went wrong food-wise.
For me... Triumphs Gordon Ramsey's stuffing was amazing and looked fantastic all wrapped in bacon. Gordon came up trumps again with a cranberry and apple sauce made with a base of caramel. It was delicious. Disasters Tom kerridges star anise carrots. Tasted like mushy liquorice - my poor dad was not impressed. My trifle made with Tesco custard collapsed into babyfood. One I didn't make myself - an M&S choc opera dessert which was disgusting. It cost £15 too!! |

For me:
The stuffing balls and pigs in blankets we had with Xmas dinner were really nice, ditto roast potatoes. The actual turkey was poor - very dry and bland Why is this? Chicken isnt as bad as that.

We both agreed that everything we bought and prepared this year was a triumph and there has been zero waste.

The ham and the beef, Roast baby turnips and the sprouts with cashews and bacon all went down well
![]() The homemade turkey joint was a bit bland, the roast tatties were peely waly and the glazed carrots were a bit meh. The real disaster of the day though was my mum cancelling in the morning

We had a turkey roulade from M&S - a turkey breast stuffed with sausagemeat, spinach and parmesan, and topped with bacon, it was absolutely gorgeous, on the day, and cold in sandwiches

The turkey and ham on Christmas day were beautiful. I had double cream that was in danger of going off so I made dauphinoise potatoes. I've never made them before and we've certainly never had them with Christmas dinner, but by gum, they were absolutely splendid.
The Christmas pudding I made was disgusting. Remind me not to bother next year. |

Surprisingly quorn cocktail sausages wrapped in quorn bacon made decent veggie pigs in blankets
I don't like roast parsnips though- I realised on the day |

My honey roast ham was beautiful. Turkey was a bit of a let down.

Almost everything was fine, even my vegan yorkshires, the worst thing was a TESCO xmas pudding, disgusting.

Christmas dinner was really good this year. Was interested in trying out the Tom Kerridge carrots but didn't in the end so sounds like that was a good decision fefster.
