Bluetooth connectivity, USB connectivity, GPS connectivity.

Yes, its often connects to other iDevices fine (proprietary).
In the flesh it is so underwhelming.
I did a like for like comparison with a friend who has the HTC One and I was able to connect to the internet and other services like GPS locations faster than him. His phone took ages to load and the flicking from page to page was very laggy and juddery on his phone. My 5s was much smoother. The screen resolution was much better on my 5s also compared to his HTC One. The colours on his phone looked very dark and faded compared to mine. The sound from the speakers wasn't that much different either even though he was boasting how the speakers on the HTC One were the best. He was not pleased. I didn't rub it in though. Well maybe a little.

All these better specs look great on paper but when you do a physical comparison between these phones, it usually tells a different story.

Extremely unlikely. I would certainly fail at managing that.

And the iPhone has near enough the lowest resolution of any so called high end phone.
Even the Moto G beats it.

Limited connectivity, low screen resolution, small screen.
(yes we could debate 'small screen' just like 'walled garden')
It has none of them. Your focus on specs seems to imply that you have little interest in device usability. That might explain your endless list of strange comments.

Hmmm. Some of the things you talk about, like the 5S being faster and smoother I can readily believe. However saying that the 5S has a better screen and that it has similar speakers I cannot. You're telling a few fibs here aren't you

No actually I'm not. When we put the phones side by side and tested them, my screen was much brighter and clearer than his. His screen looked duller and the images looked paler/ faded compared to mine. Then he started showing off about how amazing his speakers were so we put on the same piece of music and did a comparison. And honestly, hand on heart, there wasn't that big a difference. And I am very particular about sound quality.

I was very surprised after hearing all the rave reviews about how amazing the speakers are on the HTC One and what a difference they make at the front of the phone.

Usability relies on specs.

And how about advancing the discussion rather than going with your very dodgy politics. Its getting as dull the brightness set to low on a HTC One.

Maybe for android but specs aren't everything on iOS devices. I've got 2 iOS devices, both have dual core processors and both run buttery smooth. Now I have 3 android devices, 2 have quad core processors and run perfectly fine. The third has a dual core processor and lags on occasion. The experience isn't as pleasant as my other devices.

What debate?

The results of a reader poll put the iPhone 5s top.

The only debates appears to be one person questioning the results (although it is not clear to me what was being implied), and your silly comment about basic specs.

I assume the reason the iPhone came top is because apple provide a quality product which does everything the user wants very well for the price charged. That is my experience with the iPad, and I've no reason to doubt it with the phone. Over 50% of the readers seem to agree.

This is what i find hard to believe when people talk about ios devices. I have 2 ipad 2's and frequently they are dog rough in terms of performance. Granted they are not new devices and could be considered to be showing their age, but this buttery smooth claim for all ios devices is a large exaggeration.

I probably don't tax them enough. My best device in terms of speed and fluidity at the moment is my S4.

Overall id rank my devices like this

1) S4
2) ipad mini (2012)
3) Nexus 7 2012
4) ipod touch 5th gen

5) Galaxy tab 2 10.1

How about you advancing the discussion for a change?

Must be a massive coin pocket. The ones in my jeans must be about 3 inches deep and 2 inches wide and I take a lot bigger waste than 30 inches
The ones in my jeans, work trousers, dress trousers, and suit jacket are all just under 3 inches wide... Only phone I've not been able to fit in them was the Note 2.

Wrong.

In my opinion did you forget to add there?

I think personally these days, the iphone is far to small screen wise. I wish apple would bin that fantastically big bezel and increase the screen size within the same package. I have a Nexus 5 with a 5" screen and its superb. Still slides nicely into my shirt pocket when at work.

Just to add, i do not believe these numbers DS has pulled out on this poll!
Why not, why would they make it up.

iOS users don't bother posting on this forum much because they immediately get called an idiot by people like yourself if they say anything positive about an Apple device.

places like xda and macrumors have much better tech forums for rational debate.

I would Guess it won simply because more ds users have one? Surely faced with such a vote the majority of people would vote for their own phone? Why would you vote for a phone that you don't actually own as best phone, unless you chose a very cheap phone?

Because with the prevalence of 24-month contracts not everyone can get a new phone ever 3 months, but might still want one?

Arbitrary personal preferences aren't usually the best subject matter for rational debate.

56.5% of over 22,600 votes.

[url]http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tech/news/a540230/iphone-5s-named-best-phone-ipad-air-is-best-tablet-in-2013-reader-poll.html[/url1. iPhone 5S - 56.5%

2. Samsung Galaxy S4 - 19.8%
3. HTC One - 6.3%
4. Nokia Lumia 1020 - 5.1%
5. Sony Xperia Z1 - 4.5%

Quite strange because the pole I voted on the 5s and HTC One were practically neck and neck a few days ago.
a ios device cannot be best in any way than anything else. stupid pool. gs4 , lg g2 or htc one are superior phones anyway you look at it.

User polls are useless, the poll results just end up reflecting market share. From what I can see of a lot of online tech publications, the HTC One is the best phone. Unfortunately some really important apps for me are only available on the app store so I have to use an iphone 5s, otherwise I'd get an HTC One.

You can have all the other points about the 5s vs the H1 but you are obviously lying about the screens. No one putting those two devices side by side would choose the 5s as having the better screen. The H1 has a noticeably higher resolution and much more natural colours. The fact that you claim otherwise casts doubt on your whole post.

How strange. You sign in to a forum on a phone which doesn't belong to you, then complain it's hard to use and post a reply with no problems. I own both and would say iOS is marginally easier to use, but both are certainly not difficult at all.

Cobblers, XDA is one of the worst moderated places on the planet, don't agree with what's being said or dare to repeat something and its removed or locked with an efficiency a communist state would be proud of.

Well done The iPhone 5s but ill stick with my Nexus devices tar.

I am not lying. Have you put these 2 screens side by side?

Just to clarify, when you say resolution, you then talk about colours? Do you actually mean the colour representation is better?

For the sound comparison, I am a little surprised to hear the point of view, but I think pretty much all phones sound awful on speaker.
