Just to clarify, when you say resolution, you then talk about colours? Do you actually mean the colour representation is better?

For the sound comparison, I am a little surprised to hear the point of view, but I think pretty much all phones sound awful on speaker.
The colours were brighter and the images we were watching on the phones were clearer on the iPhone than the HTC One. I don't work for Apple so I couldn't give a rats ass whether anyone believes me or not. It is just my experience when I tested the phones side by side. It wasn't my idea to test the phones, it was my friends who was unhappy with his HTC One.

I am not lying. Have you put these 2 screens side by side?
Which actual like for like tests did you do?

At the time of this test the One has the best screen of any smartphone.

A few surprising tuings there is that even with a low resolution screen the iPhone failed to differentiate.
In fact it has gone downhill, the iPhone 5c coming up better.

Of course that may well be accounted for by the fact that the iPhone is a lucky dip phone(with the iPad it also happens to be the luck of the draw). Apple use several 5s screen manufacturers, obviously to get quantity needed at a cheap price.

Why not, why would they make it up.

iOS users don't bother posting on this forum much because they immediately get called an idiot by people like yourself if they say anything positive about an Apple device.

places like xda and macrumors have much better tech forums for rational debate.
Don't talk twaddle about iOS users don't post here yada yada..... It's nothing to do with that. Most die hard iOS users here have been banned due to their inane rubbish and down right moronic posts rubbishing every other mobile OS. I am of course sure you won't remember one of them..

I think you need to get it through that head of yours that i have never called anyone an idiot for using apple devices. I use them. I have an ipad. I have had an iphone. I just don't like the current crop of iphones. I have stated this a thousand times on here but people like you clearly miss that. I wonder why?....

Now this is something I don't believe!!

Sorry, but as good as the iphone 5S screen is, the HTC One blows it right out the water. Did it ever occur to you that he may have his brightness down low which makes any phone look horrid?

As for sound quality, yes the iphone is good, but again the HTC is just miles better.

Cobblers, XDA is one of the worst moderated places on the planet, don't agree with what's being said or dare to repeat something and its removed or locked with an efficiency a communist state would be proud of.

Well done The iPhone 5s but ill stick with my Nexus devices tar.
Have to agree. XDA is fine for getting roms etc, as for tech discussions, it's terrible!!

I'm curious as to why the HTC One is always the one being attacked by iOS users.

As for the result, I find it somewhat dubious that the HTC One lost about 20% of its votes right at the end. When I voted for it, it was certainly closer to the iPhone 5S than it was in the final result.

Do you mean on the forum poll, or on the reader poll?

Probably not directly but certainly implied. Like that poster being accused of lying because they think the 5s screen is better than the HTC one.

This forum is getting very boring now anyway so I can't be bothered to read all the inane rubbish spouted by a lot of the posters on here with no life.

It's a shame there aren't actually any people with proper technical knowledge who post on here

You want technical knowledge?

Go post on the internal development forums of an electronics design company.

My sister has a 5S, I have the HTC ONE.

Comparing the two I am certainly not envious but both are very good performing items. I do prefer the HTC screen though as photographs and text were not as clear (and smaller) on the 5S.

56.5% of over 22,600 votes.

[url]http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tech/news/a540230/iphone-5s-named-best-phone-ipad-air-is-best-tablet-in-2013-reader-poll.html[/url1. iPhone 5S - 56.5%

2. Samsung Galaxy S4 - 19.8%
3. HTC One - 6.3%
4. Nokia Lumia 1020 - 5.1%
5. Sony Xperia Z1 - 4.5%

Quite strange because the pole I voted on the 5s and HTC One were practically neck and neck a few days ago.
Not surprising.

The more you pay for a gadget the more likely you are going to be "pleased" with it. Especially if it is 50% overpriced.

How many people have compared all 5 phones or others not listed?

I would hardly say it blows it out of the water. It will come as no surprise to you Stiggles that as the owner of both of these phones I generally prefer the 5S. This is for two reasons. Firstly, I think it is just brighter in typical use and secondly it sounds crazy but the lower resolution actually works to its advantage for me. Because of the higher resolution on the Android device a lot of app developers use ridiculously small fonts and I far more often have to don my reading glasses with the HTC One than I do with the 5S.

That would include you then wouldn't it? You seem to have absolutely zero technical knowledge from what i have seen just like most of us here don't. It's not a technical forum. You want that? Go elsewhere.

You see what you want frankly. I never once implied nor ever called anyone an idiot for owning an iOS device. I am however calling the guy above a liar based on the rubbish spouted about the HTC One. The screen and sound are miles better on the HTC one than it is on the iphone 5S. No question at all.

Yeah, it's a bit bizarre isn't it?!!

Why would you keep a phone you don't like. In fact, why would you ever have 2 high end phones? I find that bit rather odd in itself...

They get defensive when a better product comes along

Talking of size, I gave my daughter a Galaxy Note 3 and initially I thought the screen to be far too big but having played with it the screen size is not a problem.

Lets be honest, all the phones in the poll are good quality and your favourite will come down to personal taste and perhaps fashion.

I did a like for like comparison with a friend who has the HTC One and I was able to connect to the internet and other services like GPS locations faster than him. His phone took ages to load and the flicking from page to page was very laggy and juddery on his phone. My 5s was much smoother. The screen resolution was much better on my 5s also compared to his HTC One. The colours on his phone looked very dark and faded compared to mine. The sound from the speakers wasn't that much different either even though he was boasting how the speakers on the HTC One were the best. He was not pleased. I didn't rub it in though. Well maybe a little.

All these better specs look great on paper but when you do a physical comparison between these phones, it usually tells a different story.
Is the above a wind up?

By all means say you prefer your iPhone 5s. That's cool and nobody really cares when an iOS user isn't likely to want an Android phone or vice versa.

But the Snapdragon 600 CPU is not slow. No lag, no judder.

The screen resolution isn't better on the 5s either. In fact, the HTC One has perhaps the best display I've ever seen on any device. Brightness, contrast, saturation - all top notch. I don't own an HTC One but I'd absolutely love that screen to be used on other devices. In fact, more open minded iPhone users would probably love that display to be used in the iPhone 6.

Finally, those speakers are stunning. Best audio I've heard on any smartphone EVER. Full stop. Only complaint? They're too loud on the lowest setting, so it can actually be a negative in some situations.

If I had any complaint about the HTC One, it was the lack of memory expansion for one - and, secondly, the casing getting marked from dirty fingers (especially the plastic elements).

I can see why your friend wasn't best pleased as he must have wondered what the hell you were going on about!

Personally, I think the phone of the year - even if it only came out right near the end - is the Motorola G. Not because it's the best in class, but offers the most incredible bang for the buck and combines a decent screen with exceptional battery life, an above average performance and a ridiculously low price. It's a game changer, which many of the other phones are not.

It's not that bad overall, but there do seem to be more problems in certain forums - and not just from iOS users find any reason to slag off every Android device, but rather Samsung fanboys that slag off ever other Android device.

Most of the moderation, given the size of the forum, has to come down to people reporting posts and not getting involved with the trolls.

Overall, I think xda is a good forum and has a lot of people that work in the industry and give a lot of useful insight. You just need to know who they are amongst the people that don't work in the industry but make up stuff! Pretty standard for any forum really.

Perhaps you failed to understand what I meant. My friend wasn't best pleased when we were testing the phones side by side and his phone lagged, was juddery and the screen video wasn't as clear or bright as mine.

A lot of things are subjective, but in the case of the screen - the HTC One screen is superior in every single way.

As for the lagging, I am rather confused as to how this was happening. I never experienced any such problems, but I will however concede on the basis that I wasn't there at the time and couldn't see it - or know what might have been running in the background, which version of the OS it was, whether it was a custom ROM or whatever.

You can of course say that in YOUR OPINION you prefer the iPhone 5s display. That's absolutely fine.

Some people prefer OLED displays, despite wayward colours (but class leading contrast), and that is also personal opinion.

I don't have a preference. I was just relating my experience with my friend when we tested our phones.

Thats a very valid point. I've not got one and won't get one but for your £££'s I don't see how it can be beat. For those on a tighter budget or who can't afford a costly contract the Moto G must be the market leader in budget phones by a long way.
