An awful lot of people (on a separate xda-developers thread) have actually moved from flagship phones from 2012 and even early 2013 to the Moto G.

You'd think that some of them are mad (at least one has even gone from a Nexus 5 to a Moto G) but the fact is, it's perhaps one of the first budget phones that really does work well enough that some people don't need the extra processing power and are perfectly happy to save money instead - as well as enjoying excellent battery life that they possibly didn't enjoy on whatever they had before.

The phone is fast, lag-free and even having just 1GB of RAM isn't a problem, especially as every new version of Android is being designed to reduce the demands on memory.

I can't wait to see what Motorola/Google does next*. The Nexus line has always been a cheap way to get a top-performing Android device, but now you'll have to look closely at a new line of phones that will be even cheaper. Tesco did well with the Hudl tablet, but I can't wait to see if Motorola launches a new tablet for around the £100 mark!

* Now that Qualcomm has released Snapdragon 410 with LTE support, my guess is the Moto G successor will support 4G and possibly 5GHz Wi-Fi.

The Guardian (who else) picked upon the fact that 'normal' represents a range between 3.5 and 4.5".

So the 4.5" G is normal, anything up to 5" is for weirdos.
Above 5" is obviously fine as you leave ugly ducking territory and become a phablet.

Quite uncannily, the iPhone 5s at 4" hits the 'normality' bullseye.

Well a certain Guardian guy is rather pro-Apple and probably regards the best screen size as being whatever the iPhone has.

Of course, Apple did increase the screen size with the 5 onwards - so maybe that range has been mentioned to be ready for the inevitable increase in size next time around?!

I find the iPhone screen to be too narrow to make the on-screen keyboard as usable as phones with bigger screens. Like others, I do think Apple could easily go up in screen size by reducing the bezels and not having to make the phone massively larger, if any larger at all.

The fanboys currently defending the small screen will obviously have to be prepared for the inevitable and the sudden change in opinion when the iPhone 6 has a 4.5 or 5-inch screen.

You can of course say that in YOUR OPINION you prefer the iPhone 5s display. That's absolutely fine.

Some people prefer OLED displays, despite wayward colours (but class leading contrast), and that is also personal opinion.
They have been saying that it was their thoughts - not giving it as facts.

The whole premise of the 'premium iPhone' is to also flatter the buyer, so it all becomes a semi surreal world.

I find the whole Apple thing mildly amusing.

Yep, best selling non-Apple smartphone of 2013 was just for weirdos. Who never get laid.

Yeah, it's a bit bizarre isn't it?!!

Why would you keep a phone you don't like. In fact, why would you ever have 2 high end phones? I find that bit rather odd in itself...
As usual, you two are putting words in my mouth. I've never said I don't like the HTC One, I've always said it's a close run thing between the two phones but on balance I prefer the 5S. There are a number of things I prefer the HTC for and if you had paid attention you will have seen me mention these.

Why is it odd that I should have two high end phones. I am fortunate I can afford not to have to choose between them, but also I see them as tools of the trade, I am in IT and find it useful to have an IOS device and an Android one.
I find many uses for two phones. When I am travelling overseas it is handy to have two different size sim cards and two different network providers. When I am driving in this country (and I drive a lot) I run a podcast player and TomTom on my iPhone, I run Waze and Cameralert on my Android phone. Yes, it's a bit of a luxury, but since tech is my hobby and I can afford it, why shouldn't I ? Why is that "odd" ?
