I prefer lamb to beef.

If it's just served to me, I doubt I'd know the difference more times than I would.

Probably lamb just because I don't have it as often as beef. Otherwise I really couldn't care which.

I made a similar dish to shepherds pie but with pork mince and called it pigfarmers pie.

Most times it will be Cottage just because beef mince is easier to get hold of. If we've had roast lamb on a Sunday though i'll always make a proper Shepherds pie with the leftovers and it's always divine.

Nice.
I have a small portion left over from last night that I saved for my girl who was coming in late.
It is still where I left it last night, but there were plenty of toast crumbs on my counter top so she must have had toast instead

Minced up into a Shepherds/Cottage pie and they taste a bit more similar though. Having watched the taste test on Hells Kitchen you'd be amazed at how similar things must taste.

If you cant tell the difference between the taste the potato topping should give it away. Cottage pie is scored with a fork to look like the roof of a thatched cottage while shepherds should be fluffy piped potato to look like sheep wool.

i used to call a beef one shephards pie, but is it cottage ? lol

anyway i don't make either now, both full of calories and carbs, always adds the ounces on me

I prefer cottage pie as I prefer beef mince.

Apparently 'Stable Pie' is quite nice - it's made with horse meat, and according to News reports a few months ago, it's difficult to tell the difference between Stable Pie and other animal based pies! Blind consumer trials showed that most people couldn't tell the difference. "It's starting to sound like ....!"

I'm not too keen on lamb mince as a rule but a pie made with 2/3 beef and 1/3 lamb is probably my favourite. Though it is rare I have both available of course.

I like them both, shepherds pie is nicest made with leftover roast lamb, usually put cheese on top too

Really? I'm not sure your average pub or supermarket goes to such lengths.

Mince either of them and have it swim in gravy and to me there is no discernible difference. I'd know if I made it myself.

Or maybe this is where I go wrong. Really? People go to such lengths with their mashed potato topping?

I've done a few of those too.

Although have found soya mince gives a texture nearer to meat.

I simmer the mince in a sauce for around 20 minutes and it absorbs the flavours, while becoming slightly more chewy.

Low fat, lower carbs, quicker, and cheaper, can't be bad.

Nice, and less calories, made with turkey mince too - turkey leg meat has more flavour. Don't know what you'd call it though - Gobblers Pie?
