Sam deserves to win something and i have voted for him. I think he should've been up for best newcomer and won at this years soap awards. Just my opinion but his acting is flawless and it doesn't hurt him being a hottie too!

Well they ARE recasting him....Maybe they can make him better looking (wouldnt take much considering what the old actor looked like), also I HATE what they did with ben the last time i hope DTC can sort that problem out, and make Ben likeable again *fingers crossed* Maybe they can have him redeem himself?!?!?!

I think they said they wanted a new direction for Ben this time so I don't think that will happen. I hope not, anyway, it would be way too distressing!

I think he'll probably come back redeemed but with a slight edge to him so that there's the potential for him to be darker.

I hope he doesn't get raped but I do really want Johnny to get a boyfriend and be happy for a while.

Thank you! I joined DS forums yesterday and have been following this thread since its inception. Wanted to contribute to various soap related threads so I signed up.

Ahh well he needs a proper storyline anyway, as does Nancy.
And I hope he gets a lovely sweet boyfriend soon.

If he was paired with the right guy they could end up as a super couple, bit like McDean in Hollyoaks a few years back. Maybe someone a lot like him personality wise (and fit as well) but maybe with a slight more bad boy edge to him (though not violent or overly criminal in any way or a player i.e. a gay Max Branning type character).

I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't want him to get together with Ben but I feel it's inevitable. I think it may just about work so long as they get Ben's casting right this time round (ie. not hire someone that would look completely ridiculous next to the gorgeous Johnny as the old Ben would have done) and, well, not make him a horrible little murdering psychopath. Ideally he'd have gone through extensive counselling in prison and genuinely come out a better person. There would still always be the possibility then that he could be a bit of a bad boy, but he wouldn't be completely toxic and abusive towards poor Johnny.

But I would much rather they came up with a new character for Johnny's boyfriend. Someone who is an interesting character in his own right. I thought the grandson that Pam and Les Coker mentioned, who was on his gap year so is probably Johnny's age, was going to be a possibility but now they're bringing Ben back I'm not so sure.

We must hope and pray there is no Johnny and Ben pairing. Ben will no doubt treat Johnny badly or even like a punchbag - which would be hard viewing - Johnny's way too cute and nice to even be considering a relationship with Ben (hypothetically I mean, but like you say it seems inevitable). Johnny is a beautiful, stunning looking guy who deserves the best! The Coker grandson seems a possibility - I can almost see him as a Bradley Branning type character - which would be good news for Johnny if he was gay also.

The only way I'd possibly accept a Johnny and Ben pairing was if Johnny became like HO's Maxine Minniver (Ben being Patrick) - but with no or significantly less violence of course. Having a Dodger type character swoop in and save the day. Either way though its ludicrous that a law student and a sociopath would end up together, should it happen (hopefully it won't).

It's so bad how much I worry about Johnny going through unpleasant things on the show. I just feel like he's such a sweet and relatively innocent character as a result of Linda babying him and having a protective older brother and sister (and dad of course) that he's just destined to be someone that's a complete trouble magnet. It's like Ronnie who started off as a well-adjusted and light-hearted young woman and has had so much grief inflicted upon her during her time on the show that she's now approaching villain status. I hope Johnny never gets like that!

But with that said, I do think anything that challenges Sam as an actor is a good thing as I can see him getting restless after a couple of years if Johnny never gets any sort of gritty storyline, so something like him being an abusive relationship would certainly make compelling, if very difficult viewing.

Me too! It's like you too want to protect him from harm's way. He hasn't got a bad bone in his body (both the actor seemingly and character) so I really can't see him becoming a villain. A victim perhaps, but not a villain. Ronnie always had that potential I guess, to tip over to the dark side, namely because of her background and the way Archie treated her. It would be very out of character for Johnny to become a villain, it's just not in him. He has too much of a conscience, as was shown on Lauren's birthday. Johnny would more likely be hero, even at the risk of himself perhaps. Of course the last thing anyone wants is Johnny getting hurt - but it also seems inevitable too.

I think if he did meet someone who was trouble that he wouldn't be that much trouble - and maybe even tame the trouble side of that person. When he does meet someone he'd probably be very loving towards them once he was sure of them I guess - even if it wasn't reciprocated.

I almost get the impression from interviews sometimes that the actor is (with a few interest and slight personality differences) playing himself. He comes across very shy and awkward and introverted in real life, and quiet - much like Johnny. That's not to demean his acting btw, but I really couldn't see him as a villain. And its endearing all the same.

I think Matt Di Angelo said in an interview that most young actors on the show are essentially playing themselves, and I think that's fair enough. Sam definitely does come across as quite shy and awkward although I think there probably are enough differences between him and Johnny to challenge him somewhat - his sexuality being the big one! He's a very natural actor with a lovely, expressive face and I hope that they use him properly during his time on the show.

Like you I couldn't see him as a villain but I think that there is something about EE where they do like to put the 'nice' characters through a lot of misery which inevitably changes the type of person they become. Hopefully with Johnny he'll get a decent mix of light-hearted and gritty storylines. And he's got a supportive family who are always going to look out for him which will definitely help.

He is a brilliant actor though he is definitely shy and awkward; you can tell that from his interviews. In that BBC Radio 1 interview the Carters did the other week he barely said a word - the other three were chatterboxes. And I noticed in recent TV/Soap awards he always seems to be sat as away from cameras as possible.

Him playing parts of himself does make his character more natural - btw just for the record I'm not criticising this for a second, I have quite a big crush on him and wouldn't dream of criticising him or his acting. I think him having a supportive and down to earth family (Linda seems to be more accepting of him recently) and friends will help sustain his character - however maybe this time next year he may have changed - Carter reveals and possible boyfriend may allow him to grow as a character - in both good and bad ways. He definitely has a good expressive way of acting - I'm noticing his eyes a lot more lately (and he has gorgeous eyes might I add) that say a lot about his then emotion and thoughts. You can tell a lot about Johnny just from his eyes and facial expressions which is rare in an actor.

What I worry about more than anything is that any character in EE is exposed to some sort of depressing storyline. Its inevitable that everyone suffers at some point.

I just hope that when they decide to start picking Johnny for these scenes, they aren't too bad and that they don't last too long. Sam is far too good an actor and far too cute and handsome to suffer the typical "EE character curse" as he has only been in it for a few months.

I think they need to have him involved in a happy plot, such as him getting a boyfriend and being really cute and all loved-up with someone decent who won't mess him around. Thats why I would find it particularly difficult to watch if Johnny got together with Ben.

Yeah Johnny deserves to have a storyline that will lead to a happy ending for him (not to say he'll leave - okay reword that - a happy outcome for him). Looking at the pics you just posted elly would suggest maybe the beginning of that storyline? Maybe? And good to finally have some scenes of him at a gay bar - they seem to be more or less referenced in the past as supposed to actually seeing him going to a gay bar. Hopefully he'll meet a nice hunky man there.

So far the Ben Mitchell thing is merely conspiracy theory so lets not assume. It would be a scope for drama but I really don't want it to happen. Johnny deserves better, bless him.

I think this could definitely be the beginning of the "big" storyline Daran Little was talking about for him. Would fit in with the timings of that script about Johnny he was "grappling with" a little while ago. So it may be fairly likely that Johnny meets a guy at the bar. My mind just went to Ben as we know he's living in London and will be making a return sooner or later. Would much prefer Johnny to meet a nice hunky guy instead!

Johnny is in need of a big storyline, so good to see it is on the horizon. Also location shoots tend to be aired much sooner than other things atm - so my guess is whatever this is will be aired in the next month or so. Maybe Ben will be there, but as a surprise doof doof the episode could be Johnny, Tina and Tosh going to a gay bar, Johnny meeting a nice lad (and maybe getting his number) - then them leaving merry - but Ben was there too and leaves and bumps into Jay later, who he meets with. Cue doof doof.
