Aw, shame Sam Strike didn't get the Newcomer Award, though I won't begrudge Michael Parr as he is very talented also. Maddy Hill was also very deserving of the award. There was a very high calibre this year, I suppose.

What on earth though is Danny Dyer going on about in that video taken on the red carpet, saying something about Lisa Stansfield?? Random or what! Is she joining the cast or what (maybe as another Carter)?? Or making a cameo visit to the Queen Vic to mix with Shirl, Tosh and co?!

Interesting to see Ben and Johnny properly interacting last night, even if it was a heated exchange (and Ben losing his temper as usual). Still not a fan of the prospect of them being together though (not sure if it will happen or not).

Thinking about Friday's episode, does anyone think it was out of character for Johnny to say that to Billy. For the last 9 months he has been shy and reserved and all of a sudden he is shouting things at a wedding party. That and the running into the fire just didn't seem to suit his character.

Interesting to see that Sam's got some noticeable stubble going on. Either he hasn't been filming recently or Johnny's going to be looking a bit more unkempt on screen in the near future.

On the subject of awards, I'm disappointed to see that Maddy has been nominated for an NTA but Sam hasn't:

I gather that producers can only put forward one candidate per soap for the newcomer category but I think it would have been fairer to put Sam forward as they nominated Maddy for the BSA. Maybe they figured she stood a better chance of winning due to the BSA?

I'm all caught up on EE since going away and I don't really want to be negative but I am a bit disappointed at how little we're seeing of Johnny even though he's been in every episode. I know that the Linda storyline is taking centre stage but I thought we'd see a bit more in the way of how her behaviour is affecting the whole family. To be honest, apart from that scene of Ben almost attacking Johnny and Lee pushing him back (which I loved), I can't really think of any scene with Johnny out of all the episodes that have aired since I've been away that have made any real impact on me. And I feel like Sam is starting to look ever so slightly bored in the role? I'm not criticising him for that, it's just something I'm picking up where he looks really unchallenged by the stuff he's been given.

I'm looking forward to his upcoming scenes with Ben, however, as hopefully this will give him a bit more to do. But I have a feeling it will be more about Ben than Johnny. I really hope they don't waste Sam's potential as he is very much in a background role at the moment and I'm finding it a bit depressing if I'm being perfectly honest. Hopefully DTC will eventually remember how good he was during the coming out storyline and give him something a bit more meaningful to do.

I hope to see DTC/the writers developing Johnny ALOT more in the coming weeks/months. He's been severely underused since this summer and it's a damn shame. That's why I truly hope tptb let Johnny & Ben become good friends along the way, and have us see some different layers from Johnny, or else I really fear Sam will most likely seek other venues.

I think I could cope with Johnny just being underused if the times he did appear were meaningful. It all just feels very insignificant at the moment; I'd say he's probably the least 'visible' of the Carters right now. I understand that everyone can't be centre stage all the time, but I'd just like to see a bit more quality in the lines he's saying and a bit more character continuity. For example, as good as that scene was where Lee protected him from Ben, I have trouble accepting that Johnny would have mouthed off to Billy like that. He never talks about his studies, despite the new university year being well underway now, and he doesn't show any real interest in the law despite him being a law student. His friendship with Sharon seems to have been forgotten and a lot of the time he seems to be in scenes just for the sake of it.

Oh, I really sound like I'm moaning now. I just feel like he's been forgotten about recently, like he's just 'there', and it makes me sad as he is a character with SO much potential, and Sam does so well when he's given something meaningful to get his teeth into. I really hope, as you say, that we start to get a bit more of him in the upcoming months and that the stuff with Ben will give him something a bit more interesting to do.

And yes I do agree that Sam is being underused atm. We know from the trailer theres a potential storyline (sort of) with a certain admirer called Ben as well as interviews but nothing is actually planned for Sam atm. He does look bored and a little emotionless compared to say a few months back. That said he has looked fit recently, especially in last weeks episodes (where he started wearing shirts again regularly, and in his jim-jams as well ) and last night and when he doesn't have his hair pushed back (i.e. pushed forward). I'm almost starting to worry that my crush on him is starting to waver depending on his hairstyle - when its pushed forward or with quiff it just suits his face more, which for me is his best physical feature as I've said many a time before. I hate myself for saying that, I love him and he has a place in my heart for inspiring me to come out and obviously being a gorgeous cutie, but my crush on him compared to a few months back is more intermittent rather than full-on. It might also be because he hasn't been given anything to do with Johnny for some time (running into Slater fire aside). I might be all for a Johnny/Ben romance if it means Johnny gets something rather than just a few lines in the Vic or with the teen gang. It's also likely affecting his award nomination/success potential as well. Sam needs something soon or he'll merely be a Carter extra - and surely the writers know Sam Strike's a popular cast member/character?

Also doesn't Give Out Girls start tonight on Comedy Central? Think Sam's in that, wonder from that trailer earlier in the year if we'll get to see him shirtless?

Update: Sam Strike just tweeted he's only in the 2nd episode of Give Out Girls. So maybe not tonight.
