I predict that we're going to get Johnny's part in the Ben storyline wrapped up next week; as in Ben tries to kiss him, Johnny rejects him and decides that he's had enough of Ben's games. We'll then find out that either Johnny has secretly applied to transfer to university in Italy, or that Luca has simply invited him out there, and we'll probably get one last 'goodbye' scene with the family before he goes.
EE actors apparently have to give six month's notice so I expect Sam handed his in in June - it's just that maybe it became a bit more known in August. It's not that they haven't had time to write a decent exit for Johnny, more that short of killing him off, there wasn't ever really going to be a logical explanation for why he would leave his family so they just decided to go with the easiest/happiest option which was to reunite him with Luca and therefore leave the door open for his return. Anyway, on a lighter note, this picture that Himesh Patel posted has cheered me up no end ![]() https://twitter.com/HimeshJPatel/sta...87431094190080 Do you think we are still looking at pre-Christmas departure? Nice picture

Agree with what you say. I would also add that Sam may have had a certain amount of episodes he was required to do in his contract before he could leave. As he was used heavily in the earlier part of the year EE may have had only a small number of chances to use Sam before he could leave hence he is missing from the Vic tonight with the rest of the family.
Do you think we are still looking at pre-Christmas departure? Nice picture ![]() I could be wrong but I get the sense that Johnny only has a handful of episodes left. |

Yes, I do think it's going to be pre-Christmas. Even though it makes no logical sense that Johnny wouldn't fly out once he'd celebrated Christmas with his family, we'll probably get Stan and Mick encouraging him to "go and live his life", Nancy, Lee and Tina cheerleading him on, and maybe Linda finding out about Ben's interest in Johnny and thinking it's better for Johnny to be in Italy than pursued by a convicted murderer.
I could be wrong but I get the sense that Johnny only has a handful of episodes left. It will be sad to see the Carter's family on Xmas day without Johnny but maybe best he is not around when the big reveals come in! |

Do you think we will get a Julia's theme exit?
I hope so! Johnny is a vital character.

Every Carter involved in this episode except Johnny, who was mentioned a few times as well.
This makes me sad, it's a shame he isn't going to get a proper exit. |

I think talk of Julia's theme for a character that has been in the show for less than a year is probably being optimistic |

This makes me sad, it's a shame he isn't going to get a proper exit. I sympathise if Sam has personal reasons for leaving so soon, but professionally I think it would've been advisable for him to stay at least another year. He's just 20, has his whole career in front of him-why the rush?? |

I can see how they will encourage him to leave I just wonder would they really let him go before Christmas his grandad's last? I do think you might be right though and that he will go pre-Christmas however unrealistic that might be.
It will be sad to see the Carter's family on Xmas day without Johnny but maybe best he is not around when the big reveals come in! Therefore this points to a pre-Christmas exit & I don't think the reference to Luca was accidental in any way. |

Harry Reid who plays Ben Mitchell has done an interesting interview with the Sun in their TV magazine
Aside from the Lucy stuff that comes out this week Harry talks about playing a gay character. Like Sam he has had to deal with stuff from the public who think he is gay (he is straight) but it is not something that is an issue for him They do mention the Abby/Johnny stuff and Harry says that Ben is sexually attracted to Johnny but not looking for a relationship. He mentions that Johnny won't take his games for long and we course know that this the case. EE have not really focussed that much on Ben's issues with being gay and his relationship with his dad and I guess that will now take centre stage without the Johnny angle. Whether he gets a long term boyfriend or not remains to be seen. Harry seems to be a very nice down to earth lad who seems to be enjoying his big break coming from quite a humble background in Kent. I get the impression he appears to be more comfortable/ at ease with all media spotlight and trivial stuff that goes with being be a soap star than maybe Sam was. He has done quite a few interviews in the short time he has been at EE and has gone shirtless on screen twice . I got the impression that Sam was happy just acting and not that keen to the media stuff unless he was with the Carter family where he tended to take a back seatI have to say without the glasses Harry is very good looking - not in the Sam Strike class of course but not bad at all ![]() I know Ben is not a likeable character but there is something about him I find interesting and I guess in the absence of Johnny it might be worth watching to see where DTC goes with him |

Logically there's no way Johnny would leave AFTER Christmas, what with the massive fallout to come about his mother & father. surely in a close knit family the son would stay around to support his parents?? (as well as the factor of his grandfather dying).
Therefore this points to a pre-Christmas exit & I don't think the reference to Luca was accidental in any way. Stan will fine with Johnny missing Christmas as he will want him to live his life to the full with no regrets I assume they will come up with some reason why Johnny won't return for the funeral |

I too am a Sam/johnny fan, but do you think the low key method of exit points to there perhaps being negative feelings behind the scenes??
I sympathise if Sam has personal reasons for leaving so soon, but professionally I think it would've been advisable for him to stay at least another year. He's just 20, has his whole career in front of him-why the rush?? I would imagine EE would have been happy to do that as it help them but it feels like Sam wanted to get out soon as possible

I think that the nature of the exit is determined by the fact they had little time to shoot scenes before Sam had finished his contractual obligations and he had leave maybe to take. What I don't understand is why Sam and EE could not have agreed a small extension to stay until say November to allow more time to create a proper exit
I would imagine EE would have been happy to do that as it help them but it feels like Sam wanted to get out soon as possible ![]() Therefore a "nice" per Christmas exit would provide at least 1 carter with a happy ending...BUT we have questions further down the line-Stans funeral, the usual excuses could be trotted out. But not coming to visit his baby Bruv/sis in the spring?? To me this is much less easy to explain. I'm sure DTC had big plans for Johnny the young gay man making his way in the world, esp as he was partly based on himself. Now he's left with Ben as the young gay lead & he's a completely different kettle of fish. He's a controversial character with a murky past, a completely different character to the lightness & innocence of Johnny. The one silver lining here is we're being spared the horrors of a Johnny-Ben relationship. I was REALLY against this & I'm glad it'll never see the light of day. |

To me this is much less easy to explain. . It won't make sense at all because we know Johnny would never in a million years miss these occasions but what else can they do? |

I'd say they'll ask Sam to come back for Mick and Linda's wedding (if they decide to get married... which I think they will). I'd say he would too. For one or two episodes. We all know Johnny wouldn't miss his mum and dads wedding and the way that they are giving Johnny a happy ending I think (and hope) that rules out a re-cast in the future.

I was just watching back Thursday's episode and I understand what some of you mean about it seeming piecemeal.
The scene in the Minute Mart with Lee does look really rushed, and Lee saying "Oh Luca's back on the scene" actually seems like it was edited in (it sounds different to how Lee was talking in the rest of the scene and his back is turned when saying it).

I would rule it out. My guess is that Sam will have moved on and would not do it in the near future even if he was availablle.

I meant anyone who is in a position to know. Nothing I've seen from EE or Sam has given any indication that this couldn't happen.
I was just giving my thoughts based on what normally happens in soaps which is actors don't come back certainly not in the first few years of leaving. One of the reasons is they want to move away from being known for the character they played in a soap. It is just a guess on my part that Sam is unlikely to want to do it. EE have done some suprise returns this year so who knows it would lovely if they could arrange it |

Could just be that the microphone didn't pick it up properly, so they had to dub it in afterwards....

So we now have Dexter leaving and EE have already said he will depart before Christmas
Interesting that they are very open about when Dexter is leaving but have kept Johnny departure time a secret for now. I wonder why they felt the need to keep the timing of Johnny's departure so secret if he was just going off with Luca?. When it was announced Sam would leave they had obviously had filmed Christmas Day so they knew if he was going to be around or not. Can't think why they could have said he would leave before Christmas as well if that is the case. |

Perhaps he finds out about Shirley being Mick's mum and she persuades him not to say anything and makes him leave. |
