Interesting. The news audience seems to have settled at about 7.5m in total. The lead in & late start killed ITV last night. NaT should be back above 2.5m tonight.

Per Broadcast:

"The coverage of Middlesbrough's 2-0 victory over West Ham peaked even before the actual game had started with 3.8m (16.1%) at the beginning."

(As already posted, average rating was 3.2m).

And worth remembering, ITV is paying £2.9m for every FA Cup game it shows (assuming each England game is deemed to be costing £5m).

I hope somebody is going to ask Michael Grade about this next Wednesday.

It peaked before the game started ? .

Yeah, it did, in early 1996 - but at that point Heartbeat was only on in the autumn. I remember Ballykissangel went opposite a load of films on ITV, when they took advantage of the lack of the God Slot to run them 6-8pm.

But yes, when Heartbeat was on it was a right mess, with Hotshots on at 8.20 just to fill the gap before Heartbeat finished. You shouldn't have ten minute shows in primetime. But Keeping Up Appearances used to beat You've Been Framed - everyone just switched over at 8.30 and switched back at nine o'clock.

Autumn 1996, though, I've said this before but Beethoven, on for the millionth time, managed to beat ITV's big prestige adaptation of Emma.

At that time there was a massive swagger about ITV and that line-up of Heartbeat, You've Been Framed and London's Burning was bulletproof. And their success was all based on quality drama.

If you ask me, the ratings for The FA Cup on ITV this season have been mediocre IMO.

To add a bit to the bit I posted regarding WWE Monday Night RAW in the US yesterday, the USA Network have issued this press release:


...and someone said NaT is going five days a week, well Pushing Daises is in the 10pm slot on 13th March.

ITV said it was happening next month - probably starting 20th or 27th March.

Looking at this, it appears that there are still quite a few episodes left of its current run, so unless they take the likely decision of axing it, it'll probably either a) Stay in its current slot or b) move to 22:35 to accomadate NaT.

That press release was edited last week. The NaT decision was probably only made a couple of days ago as a response to the ratings situation in that slot.

ITV have confirmed that the change will occur on March 13th so that's the day it'll occur.

PD will likely move to 10.35pm. I can't see them dropping it midway through it's run, and they've paid for the rights so it makes sense to play out the rest of the episodes rather than just shelve them.

What do the panel think the chances are that ITV will do a "Surface" to PD and shunt it off to ITV2...

Poor night for BBC One and ITV1 with FA Cup replay and NGE pulling in 3m, Channel 4 did well with Grand Designs up 1.1m and RR fared well too.

Masterchef did very well for BBC Two and I wouldn't be surprised if it hits 5m tonight although The Rise of the Superchef lost a good chunk of its lead in, IRT did okay for Five considering it was dented by MC and Minder was up slightly which bodes well for them recommisioning it for a second series.

Mixed set of ratings last night.

Waterloo Road finally wins its slot for the first time this series and well deserved, despite it only being 4.3m. Hopefully many shows will receive a boost next week with BBC2 down about 2 million in every 8pm slot. Also Natures Great Events is going up and down like a yo yo-I thought it would still be above 4m last night.

Very poor for the football, and NaT performed poorly from BBC NaT having a head start-no surprise there really.

Desperate Housewives pulled in a decent rating and I don't think first look episodes should air on E4 though, because the show isn't strong enough to be able to do that (like Shameless). Also E4 is strong enough atm and doesn't really need any boosts.

IRT seems to be about 1m down on the previous series and it isn't the big hitter it once was for FIVE anymore, probably due to the numerous amounts of times that FIVE have repeated the show. Minder seems to have stabilised, but I'm not sure if it's good enough for a recomission.

Looking at Broadcasts other article a great rating for The Beast last Wednesday and great for FIVE USA to get its best weekly all hours ever. Seems like the revamp worked, even though 30 Rock and The Shield aren't appealing to a mainstream audience.

Regarding tonight I could see Masterchef easily winning its slot and topping 5m. Margaret should perform well aswell with a good lead in.

I think IRT was hit by the move to Thursday last week and Masterchef so i expect it will be up slightly next week. In regards to Minder, I think a recomission is likely given that it's in a difficult timeslot and its doing well considering homegrown drama has done poorly on Five in the past.

I'd see its core audience remaining and it getting about 500,000 viewers.

And you're probably right about Minder-FIVE need a homegrown drama which they can associate themselves with. It probably just depends on costs now as it seems to bring in a decent timeshift aswell.

Looking at the officials which have just been released (W/E15/2/09) ITV claims 9 out of the top 10 positions which is amazing for them. It was mainly due down to that excellent weekend lineup they had alongwith Whitechapel and the International Football. I doubt we'll ever see such a successful mixture of programmes on ITV in a single week ever again tbh.

Also Minder repeats seem to be slightly up on ITV4, gaining a boost from the FIVE version.

The trouble for ITV at the moment is that they could show programing that gets 10m viewers all night and ad revenue would still be down 20% and they would still have their huge pension deficit, as well as trying to please shareholders.

Good night for C4 with Desperate Housewives doing much better than I expected
