Its most recent episode got 7.7m on a Wednesday night - also after EastEnders (24/12/08).
Didn't it air in the 8pm Thursday slot for its first couple of series when it got 10m a show, before getting the 8.30 Friday slot?

Yeah, but the BBC isn't all about chasing ratings, whatever George thinks. That's ITV's role.
I think it makes sense actually because most races in the season will air around 1pm, so it's good to get people into the habit.
I think the live showing will get great ratings anyway. The Oz race has tended to air about 3/4am, but this year starts at 7am I believe. I think many will be up to watch live - I can't wait!
