If Celebrity Wrestling was on BBC1 it would have got the same amount of criticism, along with a load about the licence fee too.

I accept Hole in the Wall would never work on ITV and I dont really know why, but because its on BBC1 I do see it differently.

Strong night for ITV1, just like previous Mondays. Law and Order: UK is holding up well - just 1 share point down from its launch. BBC2 had a good 8pm hour, but I feel Heroes is underperforming at 9pm (even when you take the BBC3 first-look into account). Good ratings for BBC3 between 9-11:30pm.

On the contrary, its a show that you can dip in and out for, so the figures could go up or down.

Not seen it myself yet. Being a member of the 'yoof' (21) and being at uni, I've only got time for TV late a night. If ITV were to have a better catch up service, I'm sure I'd be watching it. They're seriously missing a trick by not improving their catch-up service.

Normally the 19:30 screening sees a larger rating than the 20:30 offering.

Yeah, the share for that second episode is very good. In the past, it's often been around 37-40%, so it's a good improvement.

But I'm not sure if that 20:30 Corrie overnight rating is totally correct to be honest. From that overnight, it suggests that there were 24.35m people watching television between 8.30-9pm. But the Panorama rating suggests there were 24.08m people watching during this period.

Usually the two totals should match (or at least be similar), but they're not in this situation. I reckon that Corrie rating is for the period of 20:29-20:55 (when the show was actually on air).

Lets remember the percentages are rounded up and down to fit it to one decimal place so it could be that which is making the figures seem inconsistent.

If its right, its nice to see a regular show break the 10m barrier especially with the weather warming up.

Yeah, I did bear that in mind. But the difference in total audiences for that is still too big, even taking that into account.

If you look at all the 9pm terrestrial shows (apart from Heroes which didn't run for the entire hour), all of them indicated a total audience of 22.9m viewers.

yes but Brothers and Sisters did allot better in the demo, which is all the networks care about!

Still the Unit does ok, it would stay if it was on any other channel! If CBS axe WIT or Cold Case, i can see abc picking one up maybe

Another strong Monday for ITV1. They will be pleased that L&O is holding up, but I'm still not sure whether breaking the series up is a good idea or not. Nice to see the NaT figures for once and showing its performing very well on a Monday now. Though a little worrying that Emmerdale can't manage 7m in the middle of March on its strongest performing day of the week.

Decent enough night for BBC1 & Rogue Traders seems to be a decent factual performer for them now in whatever slot.

Strong 8pm hour for BBC2, but Heroes, as other people have mentioned is losing its grip a little.

Looking at ITV2 the Corrie repeats are performing great share wise and they boost ITV2 more than I thought.

It really looks like clear out the crap week on the BBC next week after looking at the schedules in more detail. First they have a very random doc on Cleopatra, then on the Tuesday there's another episode of flop The Planners Are Coming added in randomly at 10:35pm. Thursday sees yet another primetime repeat of Traffic Cops and Friday has The Real Swiss Family Robinson and I'm shocked as to how that's even made it onto BBC1 tbh. Oh and Don't Miss A Trick before it against Corrie.

That said ITV isn't much better with another Taggart repeat and Super Skinny Pregnancies.

It's a good job BBC1 has The Apprentice to lift its week and Wednesday schedule up and it will be interesting to see if Waterloo Road receives any boost from it.

Yeah, not the best of weeks for BBC1 coming up (apart from Apprentice). But I do think they'll still win 4/5 of the 9pm weekday slots.

In terms of ratings, I think BBC1 has done well in primetime so far this year considering it's meant to be the weakest part of the year for them and they've shown quite a lot of repeats. ITV is traditionally stronger than BBC1 in peaktime during the first few months of the year, showing some of their biggest shows.

But interestingly enough, BBC1 came out on top in the primetime shares for the first couple of months:

Feb 09: BBC1- 23%, ITV1- 22%

Not the best signs for ITV, as late-spring onwards the BBC have some of their big hitters being shown, whereas ITV look seemingly weak (apart from Britain's Got Talent obviously). The BBC's strategy of leaving their bigger shows to later in the year is going exactly to plan. I'm expecting a definite increase in the primetime gaps between BBC1 and ITV from March onwards (apart from May- BGT and November- IAC possibly).

Or they could show better repeats overnight instead of Loose Women and Jeremy Kyle and then about seven sodding hours of ITV Nightscreen.

Yep, still lots of returning 9pm dramas to come at some point this year: Waking the Dead (10 eps), Silent Witness (10 eps), New Tricks (8 eps?), Ashes to Ashes (8 eps?).

Hotel Babylon (8 eps?) will be back too, but it is not as strong in the ratings as the other examples.

There are probably some returning dramas I've forgotten, and no doubt there will be a few other dramas starting out too.

Yep, that's 44 guaranteed 9pm slots in the remainder of the year where the BBC are pretty much going to get 5m+ (maybe apart from Hotel Babylon, but that will be close). Some of those shows will get upto 8-9m viewers.

It's quite hard to think of as many 9pm slots where ITV will get 5m+ during the weeknights.

Potential ratings battle coming up....

ITV have Primeval starting on 28th March and guess what the BBC have just announced?

Robin Hood series 3 starting 28th March.

Now it remains to be seen if they'll be scheduled against one another...

EDIT: Checking their last series, Primeval has the edge on average (6.29m vs 5.83m) although I would assume RH had stronger competition in the form of XFactor/A&D.

I'm surprised at that as we're supposed to be getting a new Dr Who at Easter. I thought Robin wood have started the week after (Apr 18th). Is that 2 family adventure dramas on Easter Saturday? Or does anybody think that Dr Who will be screened on Easter Sunday?

Its going to be very interesting. Robin Hood has always been competing with X Factor so I guess the two will be neck and neck if they're shown opposite eachother.

Initially, I just assumed they'd be scheduled to avoid eachother but with BGT lurking around, I think the BBC would rather see RH clash with Primeval than that jugganaut.

You think so? They had no qualms about putting Merlin up against X Factor. And Merlin put up a decent show.

ITV Press Centre currently has Primeval at 7:45pm. And the BBC Press Office is indicating Robin Hood might be at 7:15pm.

These times might change over the next day or so. But it looks like just a partial clash for the first week. Once Britain's Got Talent starts, it might be a different story.

Im slightly surprised at that considering the amount of soaps, DOI etc. I wonder how that corresponds to last year with all those 9pm flops?
With regard to BGT, I would schedule the Lottery show against it and then hope to pick up viewers with an alternative which isnt half way through when BGT ends. Easier said than done. BGT will be very strong I reckon as its seen as a sunny antedote to the credit crunch.

Starting first may give RH the edge in the live ratings then.
