I can't see these two clashing at all, tbh, as they both probably share a 5-6m audience that would decrease rather dramatically if they went head to head.

I'm expecting some schedule shifting tomorrow (ie, Robin Hood shifting to 7pm or Primeval to 8pm).

As for Britain's Got Talent, it wouldn't surprise me if that took an 8.30pm/8.45pm slot this year, up against 1 vs 100 on BBC1. Primeval will probabnly end up clashing with that dreadful sounding John Barrowman show at 7.30pm/7.45pm, with RH at 6.45pm/7pm against Colour of Money/Mr and Mrs.

March 28th will be interesting, as it will be like a smaller version of the X Factor/Strictly battle, in that they're shows of a similar genre, airing on Saturday nights. It will be a close battle, and I don't know which drama will 'win', tbh.

More stupid BBC scheduling, why not wait until Primeval has finished before starting Robin Hood, it's not like the Saturday night schedules are full of dramas all year round

Does anyone know what ITV1's 10.35pm comedy hour got last night?

Apparently the programmes that STV have been showing in the 9pm slot on recent Fridays have been getting more viewers than what Moving Wallpaper and Al Murray were getting for them last year. So perhaps a good decision by them?

Though, I'm still surprised that STV have opted out of Lewis because it was STV's 5th most watched programme among ABC1 viewers in the first six months of last year with 255,000 (44%).

I would be severly pissed off it RH and Primeval clashed, would be absolutly stupid.

Wow, those figures for Lewis make STVs decision to drop it bizzare. IMHO

There doesn't seem to be anything in the BBC Press Pack about Robin Hood starting Saturday 28.

If it does thought, I can see Doctor Who shifting to Easter Sunday. As far as I'm aware, BBC1 don't have anything 'special' planned for Easter Sunday - I think it's the last episodes of The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. I suppose Doctor Who could be their 'bigger hitter' that day.

Regarding the BBC1 Saturday night scheduling, it'll probably go.

I think it may partly be to do with the fact they don't want Robin Hood going out when the weather is improving due to the lower summer audiences. Also, do they have another Lloyd Webber show this year?

NOTES:

NBC ran 3 repeats and got trounced. Univision, a Spanish language channel, beat it overall and between 8pm and 10pm.

The CW are suffering from starting their season early. Lots of reruns seem to have put viewers off its shows. Gossip Girl has lost its early momentum, One Tree Hill is off quite a bit. Both will add high numbers for DVR viewing and GG takes a hit from House/DWTS.

I should point out that the US clocks changed over a week ago now, so the 8pm slot is tougher than it was. Shows like DWTS and AI will see bigger increases as they head into the 9pm hour.

DWTS was naturally down in its second week. Nearly all the competition picked up some viewers this week. How I Met Your Mother was up 800,000 on last week as was Two and a Half Men. Rules of Engagement added around 1.5m.

On its second outing, Castle was once again inflated by a DWTS over-run. But its numbers were steady on last week.

Other US news:

In cable viewing, WWE was #1 and #2 with 5.6m and 5.2m for the 2 hours of RAW. However, it wasn't enough to prevent the Disney channel stealing the primetime crown from the USA network. Episodes of Hannah Montana and Cars drew more than 4 million and gave Disney a narrow victory.

FOX's Friday night line-up is doing well in DVR viewing. 35% oof the total audience for the Sarah Connor Chronicles is by DVR with 32% for Dollhouse. Heroes split the 2, with 34% of its audience watching via DVR.

CBS won the latest week for viewers, FOX won the demographics.

We know Lewis is hugely expensive though - probably iTV's most expensive drama.

It's pretty clear this is a money saving tool by STV - they are just dodging paying into ITV's budget as a protest.

The fact that Castle held up is good news for ABC and I reckon it will be renewed for a second season. CBS and FOX held up well again against DWTS but NBC and The CW were down. I do wonder whether The CW can survive in its current form as it's programmes are too narrowed focused and surprised Ostroff hasn't been sacked as she's done an awful job.

The kids cable networks do very well with iCarly and Hannah Montana rating extremely well.

We have known for nearly a year that Robin Hood was slated for Q2 2009.

ITV pushed Primeval into Q2 to make way for Demons.

This one is definately not of the BBC's making.

Yup. It's pretty much taken Doctor Who's slot, having left Merlin the Autumn one.

ITV have a slight issue with Primeval this year in that it is a longer series so they needed a bigger gap, but considering it started in January last year, they've left it a lot later. I'm surprised they let Demons AND Ant & Dec run before it.

Perhaps they weren't so worried about it going around the Easter period what with no Doctor Who to compete with. Robin Hood isn't as popular but it still gets decent ratings.

Especially if its first half-hour goes up against The Colour Of Money.


I think ITV's scheduling - 6 weeks of Demons followed by 6 weeks of A&D then 10 weeks of Primeval - is designed to fit in with A&D's timetable. Running 10 week Primeval first would have put Takeaway too close to BGT.

The scheduling of Primeval only appears silly because Demons flopped which ITV obviously expected to be a hit (especially giving its star name).

Slightly OT, but relevant seeing as this is a "Ratings Thread": I wonder if F1 will lose some of its core audience as a result of the announcement today? I won't be tuning about, but I know quite a few people that are close to tuning out.

Even though it is back on the Beeb, you can't stop fans appauled at the way their sport is being treated from tuning out IMO

I'm no F1 expert, but doesn't that change make it more exciting for us casual viewers of the sport because the racers will actually want to win instead of getting certain points?

To be honest, I hardly think it will impact the ratings. I expect the BBC's F1 ratings to be quite a bit higher than ITV's.

I dont even believe it would have changed last year's winner. If Lewis knew he had to win he would have went all out to win, instead he played a totally different strategy and took no risks during the entire race, which was hard for someone who constantly takes risks.

If anything it will make the ends of the races more thrilling, because drivers know there is more than "just one point" in winning.

I heard this on the radio today. It does seem a bit strange cos that leaves the possibility of the title being won several races before the end of the season, which would make the last few races pointless.

Yeh, that is a potential problem. But mysteriously the championship seems to manage to make it to the very final race a lot.

It's almost as if some dodgy decisions were made to make the season closer!

If a driver wins that many races, then surely they would have accumulated so many points making the last few races pointless anyways (based on the current system)?

Well with the difference between 1st and 2nd places being 2 points, it would be quite possible for a driver to accumulate many more points (say 8 1st and 8 2nd place finishes) vs a guy who got 9 1st but did really badly in the other races and still not come out winner.

The suggestion was to make a bigger points gap between the places (12 for 1st, 9 of 2nd, 7 for 3rd then 5, 4, 3, 2, 1) but the FIA have gone for the system Bernie preferred...

The FOTA (teams association) are extremely unhappy about this and the proposed budget limits for 2010 (if you stick to a £30million budget you'll have more slack technical specs to adhere to). I wouldn't be surprised to start hearing rumblings of a breakaway series again soon. Whether it goes anywhere is obviously a big issue but goodness knows what would happen with TV coverage if it did.

I doubt Bernie's crazy new system will impact on the ratings for now, but if the title is sewn up by the summer, then ratings will slump around the world for the last few races, which would be catastrophic for F1 commercially, and surely even Bernie would see sense once the $$$$$ stop flowing.

In British terms, I think the lack of competitiveness for McLaren should be a bigger worry for the BBC. Lewis's chances of retaining his title already look dubious, and if McLaren have the awful start many fear, then that could result in some lower ratings than expected.

But then of course, if Jenson Button and the Brawn GP team carry forward their spectacular testing form into the first few races, then that could make things interesting.

I still have my doubts about whether Bernie's madcap scheme will actually happen...

for once I agree with Robbie! If the title is won early then the ratings will plummet in the same way they did when Schumacher was winning all around.
F1 is already in a financial crisis, with the franchise having problems rolling over debt, so this is Bernie gambling on more "entertainment" being injected. As someone said yesterday, he has been running F1 for nearly 30 years so how come he has only realised this now?

Indeed. March to June Saturday evenings have been given over to family drama for the last four years on BBC1, so for people to moan that Robin Hood has been placed there is a bit daft. That's been on the cards ever since the Doctor Who gap year was announced.
