BARB have now officially confirmed the 2008 Top 10:

1 Wallace and Gromit: A Matter Of Loaf and Death 25 Dec 2008 BBC1 16.15m
2 The X Factor Results 13 Dec 2008 ITV1 14.06m
3 Britain's Got Talent Final Result 31 May 2008 ITV1 13.88m
4 The X Factor 13 Dec 2008 ITV1 13.77m
5 Doctor Who 25 Dec 2008 BBC1 13.10m
6 Coronation Street 18 Jan 2008 ITV1 13.02m
7 Strictly Come Dancing 20 Dec 2008 BBC1 12.97m
8 Dancing On Ice 16 Mar 2008 ITV1 12.08m
9 Britain's Got Talent 30 May 2008 ITV1 11.86m
10 Eastenders 24 Mar 2008 BBC1 11.73m

http://www.barb.co.uk/facts/since198...008&view=top10

It's the highest rated Top 10, excluding England World Cup/Euro matches, since 2003.

Due to BARB's stupid methodology, Emmerdale appears 24 separate times in the 2008 Top 100 because a lot of the Tuesday episodes were given different names from ITV. It's official, Emmerdale is the most popular entry in the BARB 100 .

Can we please include a source for all ratings data? I believe it is against the DS terms to not include a source. A huge amount of data is being posted but it's all being kept hush hush- why is that then?

Where in the Terms and Conditions does it say that you have to source ratings data? I can understand sourcing full articles from other websites, but I don't see how ratings data is included in that.

I got the impression that DS wanted us to source it specifically as they wanted us to link to their articles. They only asked us to source data after they started writing ratings reports.

Anyways, the data is from: www.viewingfigures.com

Where is the list of the Top 100 on the site?! I can't believe BARB have done that considering in the weekly updates the Tuesday Emmerdale's were just listed as simply, "Emmerdale".

Thank you. Well I got the same impression as you, but that's not the point is it? It has become common practice here now to provide a source - whether it be C4 Sales, Broadcast Now, MG, etc. It struck me though that just lately the wealth of data posted has jumped massively and yet no source is being posted. I was just curious and I'm sure others were too. Apologies if my post sounded rude, but I asked D.M.N. on two separate occasions last week and was met with a blank response.

It's not on the website, but I read on another website from a reliable source that this has happened. It's ludicrous! I hope BARB now realise how silly it is to have these multiple entries and stop doing it in the future.

ITV did have some Tuesday episodes with different names oddly enough. Here are some of them:
Emmerdale: Unhappy Birthday
Emmerdale: Winner Takes All
Emmerdale: What Price Love?
Emmerdale: Unhappy Birthday
Emmerdale: Trial By Fire
Emmerdale: Thicker Than Water
Emmerdale: Suspicion
etc

BARB have also released the Annual 2008 % Shares:

BBC1: 21.8% (22.0%)
BBC2: 7.8% (8.5%)
ITV1: 18.4% (19.2%)
Channel 4 (inc. +1): 8.2% (8.8%)
Five: 5.0% (5.1%)
Others: 38.8% (36.5%)

I've put the 2007 % shares in parenthesis.

Multichannel continues to grow, up 6.3%. BBC1 has held up the best out of the main 5, down just 1%. Five is down 2%, while ITV1 is down 4.2%. Channel 4 saw a 6.8% decline, while the biggest loss was BBC Two which was down 8.2%.

Looks like multi-channel is well on course to hit the 40% mark for the first time this year, at the expense of the main 5 networks sadly.

Any % shares for the main multi-channel's, ie. E4, ITV2 / 3 / 4, BBC Three / Four, Sky One ?

Last night, and great figures for Unforgiven, bouncing back from last week, who was it said all ITV three-parters shed the audience as they go on ?

Whitechapel the next three parter, wonder how that will do ?

Decent ratings for Chickens, Hugh and Tesco Too but I think strong competition from BBC One, ITV1 and ITV1 prevented the show from hitting 3m. Unforgiven did well to increase by 1m and is evidence that the Monday Night Thriller are working, BBC One did okay with Mototway Cops, BBC Two did great with Masterchef and Horizon while Five had a low par night with both Fifth Gear and the film both failing ti hit 1m.

Sorry for not responding.

Good ratings for ITV last night... good for them that Unforgiven improved after a dip last week.

True Blood is an interesting purchase, would do well in a late night slot as well on E4 while Generation Kill seems more suited to More4. It's a little dire on the US import front with only a handful of shows being picked up by UK Broadcasters.

Sunday 15th February

16:30 - ITV1 - Derby/Nottingham Forest v Man United

Does anyone know how well Gossip Girl did for ITV2 last Wednesday (21st January)?

True Blood is fantastic, I hope they don't stick it on E4. It's very Channel 4 in my opinion. A Monday/Tuesday night at 10pm would be a good slot for it.

Great news there for ITV. Monday night thrillers is working brilliantly for them with quite a few shows doing really well there. Trial and Retribution is doing good business on Fridays as well.

I used to watch that a bit, it's not a bad show! Once you get down to this low level, though, things seem a bit erratic. I wonder how smaller channels like Paramount sell ad space when the BARB figures look to be somewhat inaccurate?

520,000 for 90210 is a good start and it has another primetime repeat on Wednesday. I thought it might struggle because it was nearly 2 hours long. I'd expect it to drop a good bit next week, but in the US its ratings seem to have levelled out after a large early fall. If it sticks above 300,000 then E4 will probably be happy.

It also helped E4 come particularly close to being the #3 channel for 16-34's yesterday.
16-34 Share:
ITV1 - 15.2%
BBC1 - 14.8%
C4 - 7.7%
E4 - 7.0%

It's supposed rivals in that target audience were miles behind, with BBC3 on 2.3% and ITV2 on 2.8% unable to come close to E4 even when combined. Five and BBC2 seem to struggle with younger viewers.

A possible (but unlikely) upset by Derby or Forest is a predictable choice for ITV.

Brilliant for Unforgiven. I'm glad it raised its audience for the conclusion as I thought it was superb. Just proves that it must have lost some of its audience last week because of Hunter airing on BBC1.

I'm confident Whitechapel will do well for them now.
