Ratings rise as snow falls
Quote:
“The adverse weather conditions had a strong impact on television viewing yesterday as audience levels were up by over a third across the day.

According to figures from media research company Attentional overall TV viewing, across all channels yesterday was up by 36.2% with an average audience of 9.4m across the day. This compares with an audience of 6.9m on a Monday across February last year.”

I'm wondering how Ladies of Letters will do tonight on ITV3. It might not do well, but i would have thought it could have been a good show for ITV1 tonight as it could possibly be a strong contender compared to some of the stuff they put on.

Excellent ratings for BBC and ITV1 last night. BBC2 did very well between 8-9pm and got high shares which was surprising. Moses Jones should have performed better with a 4m+ lead in but viewers flocked to the big 2 terrestrials.

Some amazing ratings there, with the snow certainly being the cause for such high figures. It's just wonderful to see Corrie hitting over 11 million viewers, as it happens so rarely now.

Whitechapel did brilliantly too. I can see the audience falling slightly next week though, as the figure does decrease slightly for these three part dramas.

Tonight should be interesting. Quite a weak night for TV, but with snow still present there could be an increase again.

Yes, I don't really see the point of commissioning new stuff for ITV3, as a channel it's doing just fine with it's line-up of repeat runs.

Viewers know that it's a repeat channel, so I expect Ladies of Letters to get lost there. It's ITV1 that needs the attention, and this drama with a strong cast would better have been going out as a double bill at 9pm. Or maybe Sunday nights ?

Anyway with the high ratings last night, the age old question is, wonder what News at Ten got ? Potential for it's highest rating ?

Excellent ratings, as expected the heavy snowfall provided a boost especially for BBC One and ITV1. Superb for Whitechapel.

And there's more to come! The Met Office now have advisories out for further heavy snow on Thursday and Friday

BBC should have put WDYTYA on Wednesdays

Just to flag up The Brit Awards is on ITV1 Wednesday 18 February 8pm - 10pm presented by Kylie Minogue, Matthew Horne & James Corden.

Not great for the start of Minder really is it on Five, ITV have an Everton v Liverpool match, then an England match, and the Brit Awards on successive Wednesdays.

Yes the BBC scheduling yesterday was completely barmy.
A new drama on BBC2 thrown away against 2 of the biggest shows of the week. Then tonight at 9pm filler shows on all 3 channels.WDYTYA would have got 7m+ tonight easily.

But its a spoiler designed to impact the launch of new ITV shows.

I'm not sure what scheduling idiot would put WDYTYA on against what is undoubtedly ITV's strongest night of the week.

Well that failed obviously. I suspect Whitechapel will lose about 1.5m next week, with WDYTYA losing about 1m if conditions turn better, if we are still in snow-like conditions, then who knows.

Its not failed.

BBC1 were just trying to keep their share up.

It worked - they got a higher share than ITV yesterday.

They know they can beat ITV on a Tuesday - its full of crap.

Surely, BBC1 were only doing what we all want, that is, programming for a different demographic.

Now, BBC2's decision to put a new police procedural up against ITVs (becoming) established monday night thrillers...

Just as a technical point...

Should these couple of days be "barred" from having entries in the "topXof the year" charts or not? Doesn't seem fair somehow either way!

Best ever News At Ten (the real one!) figure. And more importantly an excellent share % figure.

Still a proper rating.

The One Show at least has passed the 6m figure it seems.
