If anyone hasn't spotted this (it was posted in the "outrage" thread), Punt and Dennis were rather prescient...

Call me stupid, but how does something with a peak of 6.7m manage an average of 6.9m lol?! One source isn't telling the whole truth

Great share for ITV News despite people having to wait 5 minutes before it came on, many people probably thinking ITV had shut up for the night!

Gossip Girl seems to be stable now at around 0.3m and that doesn't include +1 or repeat showings and it performs well on ITV Player so all in all ITV2 will probably be pleased with Gossip Girl.

I'm assuming that Broadcast's overnight rating is for the scheduled time of 20:00-22:10, whereas Media Guardian takes it's rating upto 22:45. So, I suppose it probably did peak near the end of the match, just that Broadcast didn't take count of the extra time. Probably peaked around 7.5m in the final few mins of the match.

Great night for ITV1 for the football but the cockup could damage them when they show England vs Spain next week.

Minder did very well for Five considering the very tough competition and on par with what their US dramas CSI aside get but I think it will dip next week mostly because of the competition next week. IRT is pulling in a steady audience and the Aussie soaps are doing well at the moment especially H&A which is slightly up.

Channel 4 did well with RR and Grand Designs which shpws that people still like property shows despite the credit crunch. BBC Two did well with INEBG and Masterchef although Masterchef does seem to fluctuate depending on what the 8pm show while Waterloo Road seems to have settled down in the ratings although New Tricks suffered with the heavy competition.

Not as great start for Minder as some people had expected, but not too bad.

Brilliant to still see Corrie hitting 10 million. Do you think it's possible for all of this week's episodes to be 10 million +? What with the rumours of more snow tomorrow..

Coronation Street isn't being very consistent though with ratings. It dropped 1.2m and 0.6m from both it's episodes on Monday Night.

Emmerdale doing well.

WR damaged by the football but it was brilliant again last night.

EastEnders and Emmerdale should get high figures tonight due to the snow.

Emmerdale 8m
EastEnders 10m”

Doesent that ring true for all the soaps though? Especially that one that drops 3m from Monday to Tuesday every week!

Peak was 7.3m; 7m watching at time when goal was scored, so ITV1 was up there with the BBC1 7 minute interuption during the European Championships in terms of ratings, if not duration

Lots of posts about the football on various threads today.

Another thought: how will ITV feel about Liverpool being knocked out so early in the competition? Aren't Liverpool one of the two teams to attract the best ratings? ITV will be hoping Man Utd don't slip on a banana-skin in the next round.

I thought New Tricks and Minder would have rated higher, but it was a tough slot.

As You Know well EastEnders in in a clash with Emmerdale on every tuesday night andc just if you dont know it beat it last night by 0.4m and had 1.1m watching at 10pm.

So it got 8.5m in clash

EastEnders deserves 10m for tonights episode. Brilliant. and is the best soap. FACT.

And let's not forget that ITV have done sterling work with The Champions League for years.

Speaking of the match.

”

Furthermore Emmerdale's audience is an average for the hour so it probably got more viewers for the first half against The One Show that it got for the second half against Eastenders, so Eastenders victory would be greater than 0.4m.

This comment is a few days late but it has been brought back to my mind by "It's Time To Go Nationwide" on BBC4, looking back at the popular magazine series (1969-1983) that was built about the regional news magazine programmes.

BBC regional news programmes getting 9m viewers in total on Monday and the comments on this thread that say they would regularly be high in the ratings if they were allocated one national figure backs up my theory on one of the reasons ITV's audience has dwindled in recent years.

By merging into "one ITV" the channel has lost its regional identity. Maybe if they went back to the regional franchises they get some viewers back. Maybe if they brought back regional on-screen announcers and the ITV regional logos.

Of course, STV is still seperate from the main ITV. Does anyone know if STV does proportionally better than the rest of ITV in the ratings? Or maybe it doesn't have enough Scottish programmes to make a difference.

Oh dear. More bad news for ITV - football only 1.8m ahead of Waterloo Road of all things, which saw its audience rise week on week.

6.2m is "good" for an Everton v Liverpool derby on a Wednesday night in February?

That's a pretty limp figure, even if it is ITV's best so far under the new contract. A peak of 7.3m in extra time is hardly sensational - the BBC news managed more than that in the same slot on Monday night.

Not necessarily. The last time ITV had FA Cup rights, the final was getting 4m some years. Indeed, the obituaries for the competition were being written so low were the ratings for some matches.

History repeating itself...

As I said on another thread, it says a lot about the competition that a change of TV Channel can kill it off.

Agree the figures were weak though. Should've got more than 6m on average.

I'm not sure what point Robbie Sykes is trying to make

Surely we know that an identical programme will get ratings in the order of:

BBC1 - ITV1 - Channel 4 - Five

Say 7m on BBC1, 5m if it moved to ITV1, 3m on Channel 4, 2m on Five

We've seen this with Neighbours among other things

You could argue that the other channels need to work harder to get high ratings as BBC1 seems to get about 2m by default
