You have to wonder about some of the comments in that article. 6m is "massive" and it "rivalled Emmerdale". What does that mean? Emmerdale still pulled in a lot more viewers so presumably its audience was massiver?

BBC One's two Thursday night sitcoms appear to have steadied now. Will be interesting to see if they get recommissioned. Masterchef is hitting them, though.

And I see Rogue Traders is taking Life of Riley's slot in two weeks' time.

Anyone think MasterChef should make the transisition to BBC One?

Wire in the Blood is one of ITV's top dramas - axing it is a poor decision - despite the budget.

More evidence that ITV is going down the pan with them dropping some of their best programmes. Scheduling it on a Wednesday/Friday is criminal. Wire in the Blood always performed well on Sunday/Monday.

But BBC1 did well last night with Hustle, with a brilliantly steady 5.5m. Piers Morgan dropped a bit - I didn't see it but heard it was a tad boring compared to Dubai last week.

BBC1 should really pick up Wire in the Blood, as I know many people who have loved the series for a long time. What will be next on ITV's budget crisis hit list? Lewis?

Despite BBC1's slow start to 2009 with less commissions than normal, ITV should be afraid of what they're saving up. With BBC1 already winning primetime shares with programmes like Life of Riley, Green Green Grass and Waterloo Road - all dumbed down in different rights - it's a severe warning for ITV.

If they knew how to schedule their programmes, and which programmes to commission, their problems would lessen. They should take a leaf out of the 'Monday Night Thrillers' book. But they won't.

Yes, I'd like to see that - as it's BBC's flagship cooking programme now, and is becoming more 'Apprentice' like. A similar move to BBC1 would, in my opinion, see its audience go through the roof.

An 8pm-9pm slot on Thursday evenings seems to work, and when The Bill leaves that slot (if it changes from BBC2 to BBC1), I can see 5m+ audience on a regular basis.

Bones is doing really, really well. Fox's decision to move it to Thursday has paid off, Season 5 is in the bag.

Unless it's changes its episode structure then I think it's unliley and BBC Two deserves to have a few ratings hits. BBC One show Celebrity Masterchef when The One Show is on hiatus in the summer and ir should remain that way.

WITB is an independent production and unlike Lewis or Frost, they don't make any money from international sale. I think BBC One or (very unlikely) Five should pick it up as it would attract decent ratings.

Wire in The Blood is tired. I'd rather the investment went into more three parters and new concepts. And what's this about Waterloo Road, Life of Riley & Green Green Grass winning primetime shares ? All beaten by whatever has been on ITV at the time !

A brilliant night for BBC2 with two hit shows combining well. Masterchef has continued to build on a good run last year and provides them with a very solid 'hook' for the rest of the evening. Victorian Farm has been a superb sleeper hit for them.

Hustle continues to secure very healthy, consistent ratings on the mid-5m region, and the comedy block ahead of it has held up a lot better than many (including me) were expecting it to. The One Show was always going to get something of a boost with a combination of the controversy and the weather.

Pretty poor for Piers Morgan's second episode with a significant fall from last week. Sub 4 million and 15% share isn't great for a 9pm slot, and ITV seem to have invested heavily in the whole 'authored journey' format for the coming months. They'll be hoping those numbers improve.

In terms of Multichannel, Skins seems to hav a stable and dedicated audience that has absorbed the cast changes well and is continuing to prosper on E4.

Oh no, it isn't, is it? Come back Life Of Riley, all is forgiven. I'd liked them having a Thursday night pre-watershed comedy hour, even if the comedies were a load of rubbish. Besides, RT should be incorporated into Watchdog.

What's happened to the new series of My Family? The publicity picture for the 100th episode, to feature in the new series, were in the papers last spring.

As for recommisions, Life Of Riley should get a second series (unless new BBC1 controller, Jay Hunt, is a ruthless taskmaster when it comes to quality of sitcom - see the unceremonious axing of After You've Gone) but GGG, on its fourth series, might get booted out to make room for new offerings.

I'm not sure where My Family will go. Maybe the same pattern as last year, with 9 or 9.30pm on spring Friday nights, alongside Have I Got News For You, with a Sunday 7pm repeat when Antiques Roadshow ends its current run?

Or maybe Thursdays at 8.30 when GGG finishes?

Just for anyone wondering, ITV is full for the next few Wednesdays:

Weds 11th: International Football
Weds 18th: The Brits 2009
Weds 25th: The FA Cup Round 5 - Replay

I presume The Bill will be put back on Wednesday's from March 4th.

Well Masterchef is a rarity a show that started on Sunday teatimes with Lloyd Grossman on BBC1 and then moved to BBC2. However it's the new revamped BBC2 version that is proving popular and I actually prefer it to the original series, and both were better than that one series horror show with Gary Rhodes!!

Dunno.

But I do know that The One Show has broken through the 6m barrier twice this week and is hunting down Emmerdale.

I'm sure you'll get over it...

The One Show will beat Emmerdale at least once - its going to happen!

It's nearly doubled its audience since it started.

It's when Emmerdale gets beat by a cartoon repeat that they'll really have to worry.

Oh, hang on a minute...

Well it's been a weird week for ratings. And Emmerdale is still a comfortable margin ahead. Unless The One Show's inexplicable popularity continues to increase and it breaks 7 million in the near future.

I'd expect they'll be looking at the best way to exploit the Adrian/Christine rumours to bump up the ratings. If they do a dramatic reveal for the tabloids, that might provide their best opportunity to top Emmerdale.

My guess is that that'd only update once DS' actual articles are on the website.
