It's the final In it to Win It next week, which Lottery format is returning once it finishes ? I'm sure ITV are very pleased with the success of their production, secures it's future.

We may see a shift in Saturday dominance in the next few weeks, with a few new shows starting on ITV1. Perhaps ITV will add a Saturday primetime win to accompany their Friday & Sunday nights.

Probably that is until the next Comic Relief celebrity dance show thing which is coming up on BBC One in a few weeks.

Really interesting article about ITV drama and it all makes sense really. It seems last January ITV had a highly publicised revamp, whereas now the revamp is quiet but changes are slowly being made, until probably this time next year ITV will look completely different in terms of genre. This is probably a bigger step compared to when they axed Bad Girls & Footballers Wives, because they were actually on their last legs, whereas Heartbeat, The Royal & WITB still have life left in them.”

Certainly offers a contrasting viewpoint on the recent developments at ITV. I do think it is probably a revamp of some sort, instigated by Fincham. And it is perhaps wiser to do this without the fanfare - far less embarrassing, for starters, if there are any significant failures (Rock Rivals, The Palace, Echo Beach, Saturday nights without DOI, Sunday nights post-DOI ). And also viewers are less likely to be jarred by any sudden, radical changes that are all implemented at once.

He's also reiterated his belief that midweek entertainment (like they have in America with Idol and Dancing with the Stars) will be more prominent over here in the future. I suppose after the success of BGT they may be looking to emulate that at other points of the year. The Bill's vacant slots would make this more possible, allowing it to co-exist with other drama series during the week, rather than push them out of the schedules for a fortnight.

Comedy, entertainment and a quiz show seems like a fairly solid Saturday night line-up. The first 2 are established, popular shows.

I struggle to see what BBC1 is offering at a "higher" level. Lets Dance for Comic Relief? Casualty? Total Wipeout?

Quote:
“TV Burp is witty but beyond that it's such 'easy' TV. I just wish they could cater for a broader audience spectrum than they currently do. Could they not break up the game show style with something akin to the brilliant Doc Martin?”

Doc Martin (or something alike) wouldn't be suitable for a Saturday night and wouldn't sit well with the rest of the lighter schedule. So they work with family drama on a Saturday night. If there is any night of the week that TV should be "easy", then that's Saturday night.

I don't think they have ever been hugely higher than Casualty in the past. Their last series average was 7.3m. They'll trounce Lets Dance For Comic Relief if they get put against that, though.

Possibly more dramatic than someone picking a random box?

It might have potential and Tarrant might prove a draw.

As mentioned previously on this thread about reality programmes, that bar SCD, itv have all the big shows, and that even the ALW shows would have done better on ITV. I think it comes down to expectations, when in comes to game shows and contest based shows (eg X-Factor, BGT etc) this is an area that ITV have captured the audience, as this is what we expect from them. The BBC on the other hand always succeed in the broader "edutainment" programmes (eg Who do you think you are, Apprentice, Masterchef), again because we expect something a bit more from the BBC (though like every rule there is exceptions). I think SCD was able to be a hit on the BBC as it was able to connect with an slightly older audience that either remember come dancing, or would not usually watch ITV game shows (again this is a huge generalisation) but liked WDYTYA.

1 Vs 100 but not until April as they're recording the new series, up in Glasgow in late March. BBC will run draw only shows up to Easter.

And don't forget the presence of the legendary Bruce Forsyth, another draw for the older viewer (this being another huge generalisation).

...and Monday & Wednesday nights At the minute ITV have very strong schedules on 4 nights a week, albeit on three of them the majority is taken up by soaps and established dramas, but nevertheless last year ITV was struggling to win Mondays & Fridays mainly due to a poor 9pm offering.

When IITWI finishes next week then BBC1 will be weaker and it could see ITV regaining Saturday nights, but BBC1 still have 6 Nations & Total Wipeout-anyone have any idea when that finishes?

A great Saturday for BBC One. The Six Nations performed well, especially the Ireland v France match, which I didn't expect to do particularly well (better quality of Rugby than the England game I suppose!). The England v Wales match next week is surely on for 6 million plus.

Total Wipeout has proven to be a real sleeper hit for the BBC and alog with the IITWI and Casualty bankers, helped them dominate the first Saturday's of 2009. I don't think at Christmas, when we were looking ahead to the Saturday clashes, anyone really expected this sort of dominance.

The next set of Saturday schedules look equally interesting, though surely will be much more successful for ITV. I expect Ant and Dec to prosper from the recent success of feel good TV since the recession started. The Harry Hill hour will probably prosper from the return of Ant and Dec to the schedule and the Colour of Money should have every chance of success.

There are two shows left. It's not on next week due to Wales Vs England. Episode 7 will be shown on 21st February but I feel the last show will be moved to 7th March as 28th February will be Ireland Vs England at 5.30pm and BBC are airing Lets Dance.

There are 2 TW programmes to go. 6 Nations runs up to 21st Mar but there's no rugby on 21st Feb or 7th Mar so presumably that's when TW will be on.

Incidentally, I've just noticed from the BBC website that the Friday night 6 Nations game (France V Wales, Feb 27) is on BBC1 8pm - 10pm.

It is very interesting. They are certainly fixing drama up at ITV, thank God! However I've been pondering what they should do with The Bill. Do we think it would be able to pull 5m on Friday at 9pm? I'm really not so sure, they need to be very careful not to take steps back with that.

On the plus side, the ITV News is being updated from tomorrow to be in a similar style to News at Ten, which should be good because News at Ten is far slicker and a better styled programme. There will be zero standing up, apparently! On ITV?!

No doubt BBC1 Wales will show it, but for the rest of us it will be on BBC2?

Seems unlikely that if the match kicks off at 8pm, the BBC1 coverage would start at 8pm, as that link suggests.

It's not ITV Sport covering it...

BBC Press Office says coverage starts 8pm as well, but they say BBC2.

Any Friday stuff yet?

And I know we are saying ITV will do much better next Saturday... they will still lose out in the All-Day shares because of Six Nations on BBC One.

With all ITVs improvements in primetime, their weekly all-hours share has been dropping since the new year, while BBC1s has been improving:

w/c Jan05 BBC1 20.3%, ITV1 18.7%, BBC1 lead 1.6%
w/c Jan12 BBC1 20.8%, ITV1 18.2%, BBC1 lead 2.6%

Is it all down to the afternoon schedules?

Ouch for ITV, I'm a bit surprised about that. I thought ITV's afternoon schedule was good though....

W/C Jan 19 included the inauguration of President Obama, a massive daytime ratings-winner for BBC1.

I'm surprised that Kitchen Nightmares managed that - it was so dull.

It is down on last year, though.

Not Going Out isn't doing very well, is it?

Kitchen Nightmares US did well tyhough it was slightly down on what it got last year though Plus One did horribly, NCIS is doing the business for Five pulling in 2m+, T&R is continuing to well for ITV1 and QI and NGT don't seem to be doing that well for BBC One.
