Is there another series this year?

Yeah, I think it's the show's lowest audience yet. Looks like it was dented by the Brits, which also might have attracted a similar kind of audience.

Not sure what the BBC will make of the 4m-ish sort of ratings the show is currently getting. It could definitely go into the high 4's if it goes out on a Thursday night after EastEnders. But then again, WR is bringing relatively decent ratings in a slot the BBC usually does poorly in.


Fantastic to see it bringing in such a healthy audience 5 seasons in - best show on TV imo .


I don't like repeats being shown in primetime slots but with decent figures like that, the BBC will continue showing them. Billy Connolly rated well on ITV1 incidentally; shall be interesting to see if it holds up well or fall like Piers Morgan's show.


The show's been stable, but under the channel slot average for last year. I think ITV2 were probably hoping for something closer to the 1m.


The ninth series is in post-production at the moment so I'm assuming so.

Friday may be subdued, but Saturday is going to be a big night. I quite like the sound of "The Colour Of Money". I think it might get a win over Let's Dance... maybe the public will think "not another BBC dancing show" and try out "another Chris Tarrant gameshow".

Also, will Ant & Dec drop this week after a fairly poor opening episode?

In terms of British TV, it's quite an important night as well. It has already been mentioned that ITV could make big money if The Colour of Money can be sold internationally but I'm sure Whizz Kid Entertainment are hoping Let's Dance can be sold abroad as well.

And domestically, it marks the full launch of the ITV1 Saturday night schedule for the next 7-9 weeks.

Sorry if someone has already said this, but 'Jade' was Living's highest rated show ever with a total of 929,000 viewers (inc. timeshift)...

I'm with you on this mate. Saturday nights should always be "big" and it's encouraging that ITV are using them to test out high profile new formats to see what works aside from the usual reality entertainment/talent shows that dominate the Saturday night schedule for much of the year. The Colour of Money does look interesting and while the ads don't sell it particularly well, I think it'll probably be decent. Will be curious to see how it performs especially after ITV's stellar result last weekend. I think 7m is probably too optimistic but high 5s low 6s very possible IMO. My 4.7m punt on the Ratings Game is likely to be too low and I may not even scrape a single point.

I think so too. Paris is quite a big name and I can't imagine she came cheap - plus the promotion had started before Christmas so they were clearly hoping for a big audience (by ITV2's standards).

Yes. But it's taking a long time to air. The picture of the My Family cast celebrating their 100th episode, which features in the next run, was in the papers last Spring.


Also, ITV2 give her the same slot they gave to Katie Price and Peter Andre and their show, which you would think would appeal to the same audience as Paris's, regularly attracts around 1 million viewers.

Let's Dance for Comic Relief was originally scheduled to start at 18:40 and finish at 20:00. As revealed earlier this week it's start time was pushed forward 5 minutes to 18:45. The finish has now been pushed back to 20:05. Seems like the Beeb are playing more scheduling tricks...

It's an 18:35 start. My Toppy has already picked up the correct start time, RadioTimes website also has it correct but with no "change flag" icon. So how long ago was it changed?

Woops, my mistake. I think the timing for the end was changed either late last night or this morning.

Yeah, the 6.35pm start for both Let's Dance and Colour of Money have been planned for over a week. Both were down as starting at 6.40pm when the schedules were initially confirmed on the Wednesday, then one side must have tried to get a head start, and the other must have followed.

As for extending Let's Dance, I'd imagine that's just because they thought it was going to overrun.

Yep, one of the Comic Relief singles is going to be performed on the show.

...the paper copy of RT has an 1835 start time for LD, so I don't think there's been anything particularly underhand going on. However, some other printed schedules (e.g. Sunday Times guide) apparently, did have 1840 as the start...

Looking forward to seeing how tonights two new shows rate. Obviously 'The Colour of Money' is important for ITV and I can't see it performing badly tonight given its great slot in between Harry Hill and Ant and Dec. They've given it the best possible chance of success.

I think Lets Dance for Comic Relief could either work out really well, or go disastrously wrong - and I'm not sure which yet. It looks like they're treating it as a bit of a mickey-take (surely panelists like Michael McIntyre and Paul O'Grady are only there to get a few laughs) but I think its going to depend whether the public actually try to treat it as a serious competition or a stupid romp for Comic Relief.

Yeah, you're right that it probably would be about the same as the general ITV2 9pm slot average.

But I'm guessing ITV have paid quite a lot for Paris Hilton, who is a "big name" for the channel. They also promoted the show a lot and it has an American Idol sandwich (which brings in 500k+). Taking this into account, I personally think ITV were hoping for more viewers. A positive for the show, though, is that it has held on to the majority of its viewers which is a pretty good sign I suppose.

I think Paris Hilton probably started a bit lower than they hoped. But I'd have thought they expected a bigger drop-off, so overall I think it might be OK for them.

They have new shows at 10pm next week. Celebrity Juice at 10pm and new sitcom "FM" at 10.30pm. Much like the autumn, their schedule is fuller than E4, with Coleen's Real Women on Tuesdays as well. It makes for more original UK material. Whereas E4 seem to favour fewer projects with bigger investment (Skins/Dead Set) and filling the gaps with imports. Unfortunately for them, issues in the US for a second year mean that there is a bit of a lag in getting them back on after Christmas.

Did anyone notice that there were no commercials between the end of TV Burp and the start of The Colour Of Money. ITV1 so determined to stop people switching over to Let's Dance. Unfortunately they had to have commercial breaks during the programme so plenty of opportunity for viewers to switch over or off.

We really have to find out the 15 minute breakdown for this programme. I'd like to think the British public wouldn't be so gullible to make this a hit and would switch off in their droves.

They are trying way too hard. It's so contrived. It's as if it's been devised by a emotionless robot that's been programmed with all the human emotions found in all the other successful formats on TV. The tears, the sob stories, the dramatic voiceover, the pointless blonde assistant with the statistics. Argh

I'm just so desperate for this to be a flop. ITV can be such a pain in the backside at times.

Also, The Colour of Money was terribly made. Supposedly the next Millionaire, it didn’t take forward any of the redeeming features of that show instead trying too much to be DOND.

No need for sob stories on this.
The set was too big and flashy, it didn’t provide the intense, stressful environment that Millionaire did.
The colours were pointless, we didn’t need a reason for picking them.
The families shouldn’t have been there.
That first woman shouldn’t have been allowed to tell us where she was going to stop.
The machine counted up far too slowly.
The whole pace of the show was far too slow.
The first woman was very irritating.
The first game had the first 2 machines empty really quickly. I think it made it a bit hard to grasp the show straight away.
Constant recaps throughout were not required. They had the cheek to show highlights at the end.

An honourable mention goes to Millie Clode who was gorgeous. However, her actual role was questionable and it didn’t seem to blend well with Chris.

That being said, I did flick over to Lets Dance... at the ad breaks. It's a sign of how utterly sh*t that looked that I kept returning to The Colour of Money, if only to see Millie!
