Pretty decent start for Law and Order. Its been well recieved enough so if it can hover around 6 million for its run then that'll be just fine. A successful long-running series. Just what the doctor ordered for ITV.

The most impressive ratings of last night have to be University Challenge though. Clearly the press coverage of that super-clever Oxford contestant really helped give it a boost. UC and Masterchef have done great business for BBC2 this spring - and I hope they hang onto them rather than lose them over to BBC One.

I thnk it'll get beaten by Emmerdale. Usually EE doesn't do well against Emmerdale when the Foxes or Masoods feature.

Can't see University Challenge going to BBC1. It has been pretty consistent for BBC2 at 3m-3.5m apart from this on-off.

If the BBC wanted to push this storyline (and btw, I really don't see the need for the PR push of historic, from whichever media source started it) then why not on a stronger night when its not up agains Emmerdale?

The episode sounds enternally boring to me but then again they did do a 30 minute monologue with June Brown once...

US Govt has since denied it's been used as a form of torture...

I don't think the BBC want to push this storyline/episode, they haven't really publicised it. There's no mention about it on the EastEnders website.

It's just some papers picked up on this and are trying to make a big thing out of it.

What's historic about tonight's episode?

I haven't watched EE for a while, and with this being a Ratings Thread, can someone briefly tell me what's going on please??

I'd say 5.9m for L&O UK.

..and i'll eat my gran's hat if it doesn't peak in the first 15 minutes!
Hope your gran's head doesn't go cold without her hat!

Emmerdale doesn't have an hour long episode this week due to CL starting at 19.30 tonight. EE should do OK tonight.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I guess EE will be quite a bit up from its usual 6-7m Tuesday ratings.

I'd expect high 8's for EE tonight. 8.8m maybe.

Great start for L&O:UK, it was very good and I think it may be a long runner for ITV1, BBC One did okay with WDYTYA which is holding up well against the ITV dramas.

BBC Two had a great night with UC and Masterchef and Heroes was on par with what it got before the break, Channel 4 and Five had an awful night with Five failing to hit the 1m mark and Channel 4 just scraping it.

With the success of L&O:UK, I wouldn't be surprised if we see another US to UK remake/adaptation in the next year.

It was a good solid start for L&O:UK, but it did drop from 6.9m to 6.1m which is never good for ITV drama and because of this I can see it dropping around a million next week. Hopefully though it will stay above the 5m mark. I think Heroes did dent it somewhat because BBC2 is up over 1million on last weeks drama offering.

What do BBC1 have up their sleeves once WDYTYA finishes next week?

Fantastic night for BBC2 in general-getting 5.3m up against Eastenders isn't easy, especially on BBC2! But even The Feelgood Factor performed better than when it aired on a Saturday.

Very poor night for FIVE, but last night should be the end of their Monday woes and with Fifth Gear not making 1m for any episodes it's surely for the axe?

Soaps pretty much in line with last Monday, but EE's BBC3 repeat seems a little higher than usual, probably due to University Challenge denting it very slightly.

ITV seem to be playing a really odd game with Law and Order.

It had competition in that slot from two shows that would appeal to similar viewers (Heroes on BBC 2 and 24 on Sky) and yet they choose not to have a repeat this week.

But episodes 2 onward from next week are repeated on Wednesday on ITV 1 at 22.35 (and in HD again).

Surely if they want to attract viewers they needed to repeat episode one this week and grab those who missed it and hear the buzz from those who did. Not like they do not have 4 channels to do so.

I agree. Wednesday night at 10pm might be a good place, with the show being advertised during the football. It would be picking up a large male audience from the Real Madrid v Liverpool clash on Sky Sports and the FA Cup replay on ITV. And that could continue for weeks.

It's a good show, and ITV need to capitalise on that. What ITV don't do enough of is advertise their good shows after they've aired for the first time. They advertise shows that they desperately think will need a perk up, but by doing that, they might be letting top notch TV like Law & Order London swallow itself up in a 3-4 million vacuum of viewers.

I would suggest that ITV drama like this should be repeated on either ITV3 or ITV4.

For Law & Order, ITV4 need to start getting some old rights or making some special documentaries about the show. Cult TV like this belongs on ITV4.

The Monday night thrillers we've seen on ITV in the past six months ought to be given an ITV3 re-run at the start of next year, maybe on Saturday nights so viewers have an alternative to all the crazed entertainment on ITV1.

But, with ITV in the state it is, it's massively important it uses its assets in the best way possible to generate as much profit as possibl and longevity for its new dramas. And I feel the answer is: not repeating it late night on ITV1. Repeating it at 9pm/10pm on one of their digital channels will attract solid viewers, these slots have a better reputation than ITV1's post News at Ten slot.

A good figure for Law and Order: UK. I thought it was a really good drama and I hope it stays above 6 million for the rest of its run.

OMG at UC! It so deserved it. CC were so behind Manchester at the beginning yet during the last 10 minutes they quickly harked back to end with a lead of over 50 points!

It started on Friday, 4th September 1998. In fact, since I'm here, here's how the first series was scheduled...
Thank you, Steve. I enjoyed reading that. It would be interesting to see how Millionaire would fare against EastEnders these days.

It will do quite well.

I think at least 8m , maybe 8.5-9m.

It looks fantastic.

I wouldn't read too much into the declines for L&O. A few others have lost viewers across their first hour but then stayed strong across the series. When a show follows something like Corrie it will always lose some viewers across the hour.
