Butchers Joints, Arghee Barghee, McClunkys...
I think all three of these need an overhaul in 2014, with Janine gone Butchers Joints could be something else- like a trendy arty cafe as I like the brick exterior and they are big right now.
Arghee Barghee and McClunkys need a renovation too ideas? |

Mclunkeys seems to be forgotten now. You see it and it is mentioned but it's never used at all like it once was. I was always gutted when the owner abruply left, when it seemed at first he was gonna be in it a while and mixed really well with Lola, Fatboy etc.

I would love it if a bunch of bohemians moved into Albert Square - painters and writers and performers. Would be so much fun, we've not seen anything like that on a soap before.
DTC needs to rectify this. |

In reality that is what most East End Squares are like...I live in one.
DTC needs to rectify this. They need a trendy coffee shop, a shabby chic kind of gastropub, "yummy mummy" types of middle class family, a farmer's market etc to make it in any way reflective of how a lot of the real East End is these days. |

I miss Cora's charity shop.
I remember the video shop they had back in the 90's. and you never see the bookies anymore. Not since Carol and Glynda briefly ran it. |

Me too. I live in the East End and the portrayal of it in EastEnders is now so wide off the mark its almost a parody.

I've always said that Eastenders need to change the Arghee Bhargee into a chinese resteraunt and have a new Chinese family run it..

The Masoods should buy it back...
That's why all the money coming in, is going into Tam's Uni fund. |

If we're talking about the East End today? Speaking on behalf of Hackney, which EastEnders is modeled on, I can say Chinese is the preferred takeaway, so bring in a Chinese and have a long awaited Chinese family to run it... |

Definitely think a Chinese restaurant with a Chinese family running it is a good idea. I think it'd be good if they expanded the location of Eastenders, it's always been focused on Albert Square (rightly so) but in recent years we've started to move around a bit, places like McKlunkys and the charity shop and Hev's flat are an example of this, so I'd like to see some kind of development - a block of flats? - somewhere near by. There never seems to be builders around or workmen. Albert Square appears indestructible!

According to DTC, we will be zooming out of the square and I hope that when he does do this it would look like this |

It would also be more in keeping with the creeping trendification of East London. After the arty-farties, the yuppies could move in, which could lead to some interesting developments with the born & bred locals.
Realistically almost nobody who lives on that square in its current incarnation could actually afford to live there. |

Unfortunately knowing EastEnders they'd make a complete hash of it. The new 'arty' and 'yuppy' characters would be one dimensional cliches and the "salt of the earth" locals would run them out of town with pitchforks whereas in reality the "salt of the earth locals" would have been priced out of the area years ago with all the houses now owned by 'yuppies' 'yummy mummy' families and people who work in the media, arts etc.
Realistically almost nobody who lives on that square in its current incarnation could actually afford to live there. |
