Channel 5 don't support accurate recording so for recording channel 5 program's you need to add padding either side instead.
Or don't bother recording and watch it on catchup instead.
You should think yourself lucky you've got a freetime box and not a YouView box as (unless they've had an update since that added it) are not able to add padding at all so have to put up with the same issue when recording channel 5.

Funny u should mention that as I also have a youview box, a talk talk one but not with a package I bought mine for a well known auction site, and TBH I have very few problems with it, the main advantage is the remote record I shall record next weeks gadget show on it and see which one records best,

i just noticed this morning my talktalk youview box had recorded the gadget show from channel 5+1 from yesterday, as opposed to the normal broadcast. i have sky too so can't remember if C5 is in HD on freeview but the picture quality is noticably worse compared to HD

C5 has never been in HD on Freeview. It's no longer in HD on Freesat, but it is part of the HD pack on Sky.

?????

It never was, it's always been an encrypted channel.

It WAS available on FSFS until recently (though never on Freesat), but presumably their contract with Sky was up, and CH5 HD decided to become a subscription channel.

That's probably because CH5+1 is broadcast at a paltry 544x576 resolution on Freeview, so compared to HD it will look very poor indeed.

On satellite, all the SD channels from CH5 run at 704x576 resolution and look pretty decent, especially if the source material was shot in HD. Still not as good as watching in HD, but far better looking than the crap you get on Freeview in the main.

Hmmm has 4HD not using accurate record my programmes recorded on there are ending prematurely and is very annoying. I did add padding but that isn't suitable especially when I record multiple sides. My youview box records the whole programme no matter what channel it's on. Any ideas
